LAS VEGAS — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, seeking to
console liberal activists who were disappointed by the final
version of the national health care law, assured them that there
would eventually be a public option.
“We’re going to have a public option,” Reid said. “It’s just a
question of when.”
Reid’s general comments reflected the same overall message to
progressives that President Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
delivered earlier today. It essentially boils down to: We’ve done
a lot of stuff, but we still have a lot of unfinished business,
so campaign for us again.
During a question and answer session, Reid also argued against
“fear tactics of those who say Social Security is going broke.
It’s not.”
This is part of a strategy I described earlier this week, with
Democrats renewing the spectre of Social Security cuts to use as
an issue against Republicans.
“Social Security is the most successful social program in the
history of the world,” he said.
I explained why its finances are a major problem for the U.S.
here.

Almost the entire problem is that these "elected officials" stay in office way too long . Need 2 terms and out , just like potus . Reid , Dodd , Pelosi and many more , are old goats . They are not concerned about the future cuz they wont be here and they are bent on destroying us before they go . And go they should , at the end of a rope !
jb| 7.25.10 @ 9:36AM
Then vote them out!!! Term limits are a sorry excuse for laziness and complacency.
Newshound77| 7.25.10 @ 10:03AM
I vote in every election. Unfortunately there are too many products of the public school system who vote in opposition. It is sad, but a huge swathe of the population still votes for public officials as if they were voting for Homecoming King/Queen.
stepinfetchit| 7.25.10 @ 9:21PM
The school systems across America "brainwashed the 18 year olds" to vote for Obama in the last election. As far as I'm concerned, teachers that taught the 18 year old voters should be tarred and feathered and kicked out of the school system.
These teachers played the "race" issue by teaching the 60's discrimunation issue and then telling the 18 year olds to vote for a black. This is brainwashing, NOT TEACHING! The past is the past, everyone is free and everyone has equal rights. No one is OWED a thing! Period.
Looky| 7.25.10 @ 11:43AM
Untrue. Gerrymandering and contributions to incumbents by lobbyists severely stack the deck against challengers. Term limits have become necessary.
BigMista50| 7.25.10 @ 11:55AM
Looky...you hit it on the head with that one. Lobbyists and unions are killing our votes. They are stealing elections. Term limits would be a good start to this house cleaning.
Greg| 7.25.10 @ 5:43PM
Correct. We need to FIX the boundaries and make them by geograpic lat/lon lines across the country and get rid of the gerrymandering of districts. I am against term limits, but I am beginning to think it is the only way to get rid of these 20, 30 and 40 year politicians! It is all about power. Why do they spend MILLIONS of dollars for a 100,000 dollar a year job? Hmmm. Is it because by the time they leave office they are really rich and have managed to increase their fortunes tenfold? Charlie Rangle has been in office 40+ years and is 80 years old... Why the heck would anyone still want to be in office at 80? Money, power, greed.
fryguy| 7.25.10 @ 1:49PM

noneofyourbusiness| 7.25.10 @ 4:28PM
Not at all sure how limiting members of the house to just four years and senators to 12 would help anything. Maybe they can run for Senate, but those opportunities will be few with senators only getting kicked out every 12 years and maybe 20, 30 or even 50 other representatives with the same idea.
More likely they would be forced to spend their time pandering to lobbyists (even more) so that they had a life after politics.
Really bad idea.

Regarding the instability of SS, and the supposed stability of retirement accounts, i.e., 401K and IRA's, I have an interesting observation. In 2009, at the bottom of the fall, I had lost around 75% of the value of my 401K. I sold it in its entirety, and immediately bought the best stocks back in a personal and non-government ruled account. I am all the way back to the pre-crash value, but without government harassment and the costs of filing forms and keeping up with constant rules changes. Plus, now any gains will be at capital gains rates, not ordinary income as those under government control will pay. Tax free accounts are a suckers game that only benefit tax accountants, lawyers, and the government, who all take your hard-earned money. Just sit down and put a pencil to paper and figure out the difference of paying the tax on any figure you wish to invest, then investing for the long term, and the cost of so-called "tax free" investing, which is anything but. By the way, I majored in Accounting, and practice law, so I do know something about the subject. Many of my friends have now abandoned their government controlled accounts to invest with after-tax dollars. No tax lawyers, accountants, or government yearly rules to deal with, a huge savings of your money each and every year. I do get SS, but SS is broke, and Algores "lockbox" is a sick joke, as the politicians have taken every dime received each and every year to pay for their favorite programs, and have brought more and more SS recipients onto the roles who have never paid a dime into the program. SS absolutely cannot survive without a massive tax increase and decrease in benefits, probably a means test despite the fact that those failing a means test would be the very ones paying the most into SS. Time to clean house in Washington, although the criminal trials that should come will not.

SS is solvent, and always has been. Just because greedy politicians raided the fund and replaced the money with government-backed securities, does not mean the system is not solvent.
IOU's are backed by the integrity of the US government and the system is not paying out more (currently) than it takes in.
Any imbalances can be avoided in the future with a removal of the limit on SS paid on wages over $100k (employers exempt from this part).
On planet earth, the USA SS system is not broke, because the great Ronald Reagan raised the SS rates (giving us the largest tax increase in US history) to prepare for the retiring Baby Boomers. Tell your representatives in Congress to stop stealing SS money.
CBKC| 7.25.10 @ 9:52AM
Huh? IOU's backed by the integrity of the gov't? The gov't is borrowing the money from China. They can cut us off anytime. SS does NOT currently take in more than it pays. It went in to the red recently. Guess MSM didn't report that.

Largest tax increase in US history by Reagan? Methinks you're forgetting about the likes of Woodrow Wilson and FDR.
DanMingo| 7.25.10 @ 10:34AM
In the period since 1968, the study said, "the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 1982 was the biggest increase." That was the tax increase signed by Ronald Reagan, rescinding some of the effects of his huge tax cut passed the year before.
That 1982 tax increase only slightly exceeded Clinton's in inflation-adjusted dollars ($37 billion a year vs.. $32 billion) but it was much bigger in relation to the size of the economy. The '82 increase amounted to 0.8% of GDP (average for the first two years) while Clinton's was 0.5%.

I've been noticing a concerted attack on Reagan's legacy lately, leftists are worried, the propaganda machine found one isolated stat to run with, an increase in nat'l debt - taken out of context regarding who controlled the purse strings and ignoring that pesky Cold War thingy and the great expansion that Reagan secured for decades to come.
It's quite pathetic that leftists are now attacking the Reagan legacy and rewriting history once again. Their success is made possible by their actively dumbing down of our 'Utes' and the instant sounbite gratification and hypnotic brainwashing by the 4th estate and public edumacation system.
"The Press was protected so that it could bare the secrets of the government and inform the people. Only a free and unrestrained press can effectively expose deception in government. And paramount among the responsibilities of a free
press is the duty to prevent any part of the government from deceiving the people."
-– Hugo Black, Supreme Court Justice
"Public sentiment is everything. With public sentiment nothing can fail. Without it nothing can succeed. He who molds public opinion is greater than he who enacts laws."
-- President Abraham Lincoln
Milton Friedman Quotes -Reagan Economic Advisor: " I am favor of cutting taxes under any circumstances and for any excuse, for any reason, whenever it's possible.
Concentrated power is not rendered harmless by the good intentions of those who create it.
A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.
The Great Depression, like most other periods of severe unemployment, was produced by government mismanagement rather than by any inherent instability of the private economy.
The only way that has ever been discovered to have a lot of people cooperate together voluntarily is through the free market. And that's why it's so essential to preserving individual freedom."
"The most important single central fact about a free market is that no exchange takes place unless both parties benefit." ---This is what the leftists never get-prefering to use Force to Redistribute Your Wealth as They See Fit, in their great wisdom and sense of 'fairness' & 'for the collective good'
Alas, our Utes never hear of Milton Friedman, just Keynesian hacks like Krugman. Socialists (like Hitler) loved Keynesian policies because it invariably results in more and more centralized gov't control over the economy, Keynes was, and is, the fabian socialists best friend.

Being in the financial business- you are so right-- you would not believe how many people do not monitor their account-- unless you have hired someone privately- chances are - you must watch it-- I was shocked when I would offer my services to the company free- to come in once or twice a month to help their employees with their investments-- educate, and show them how to track-- they did not want to be bother-- and they liked paying the higher fees for their contracts-- the ones who took a look at what we can do - switched-- employees were happy because they are now having the chance to earn money and protect it and the HR were glad to have the burden off of them plus many of the companies were able to save money from the fees and got something better- so yes you better educate yourself- because what is about to come down the pipeline if congress gets their way-- we are going to be screwed even more-- as for congress not getting social security as I have read in some posts-- some are actually taking that while still working plus what they are entitled to through their own programs---
dee| 7.25.10 @ 7:52AM
The facts: The confusion about Social Security probably results from the fact that before 1984, Senators and Representatives did not participate in the Social Security program. Like all federal government employees at that time, members of Congress were covered by a pension plan, called the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS), that did not require payment of Social Security taxes and did not provide Social Security benefits. In 1983, Congress passed a law (P.L. 98-21) that required all federal employees first hired after 1983 to participate in Social Security. The law also required all members of Congress to participate in Social Security as of January 1, 1984, regardless of when they first entered Congress. Because the CSRS was not designed to coordinate with Social Security, Congress directed the development of a new retirement plan for federal employees, called the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS), which does coordinate a federal pension WITH Social Security.

I was once a broker and offered the same free service. Even had an in with some companies and like you they stuck with high fees and no help. Was mind blowing. Now ten years removed I don't worry about ignorant people even though I tried to for many years. Funny how they don't want to make private ss. Bush had it right. It's your money 13% of your pay you will never see but hey I guess who needs a 13% pay raise except uncle Sam
CAM| 7.25.10 @ 10:41AM
You are so right! As one who was responsible for signing people up for our company's 401(K) program, I can tell you that the majority of people just arbitrarily- in moments- chose what they were investing in and never looked at it again. Many people have no idea what they can do to monitor funds. Same with IRAs. You have to take the time to learn about what's happening with your money, the control you have over investments, etc... and then take the time to make changes as the market is changing.
SB1070| 7.26.10 @ 12:39AM
Well said...good point on letting people know they need to manage their 401k. I bet more than half the people that dump money into those founds do no management whatsoever. Nothing even as simple as balancing their investments. Also, good points on SS if people realized it was originally put into place to supplement widows and not provide for care for individuals for 20 to 30 years...

We have an economic crisis because the worlds' bankers have ripped us off for a few trillion dollars.
Unless the US government itself collapses and defaults, SS is solvent, and taking in as much now as it pays out without taking into account the reserve.
When Reagan raised SS contributions in '82 it was to put in the money needed for the baby boomers to retire on.
Other than the 8 years of Clinton (who ran a SURPLUS) Republicans have been in control of the exploding national debt which necessitated their raiding of the SS trust fund.
Yet, even with that, the fund is solvent (which you could find out for yourself in the provided links)

The really REALLY sad thing about the anger Americans feel at the moment is that they will vote against the democrats and republicans will win the seats - not on their merit and without a mandate to better or die. The republicans will roll back a few of the most egregious acts of the current load of idiots, but they will do things equally bad. What we must have to survive as a nation is a constitutional revision to limit the power of Congress, the Courts and the Executive. Government should all be virtually local - or as close to it as possible. That way you know where to deliver the manure when it's called for.
MaggieLyn| 7.24.10 @ 9:14PM
What you have stated is already in our Constitution! What we need is an electorate that will remind our officials, and candidates, of their responsibility to enforce that Constitution. There is no need for a Constitutional revision. Messing with our Constitution is getting into dangerous area and is unnecessary. Just enforce what we have.
Patricia | 7.24.10 @ 9:16PM
If the Republicans don't do what is expected of them by the citizens of this country, then their asses are out! We need term limits, immediately. No more that four years. They will all get theirs.

Yes Republicans have their share of the blame but from '06 the Dem controlled Congress ramped up the over spending by Bush/Repubs to a level that is unsustainable.
Taking the government back from Rinos and Dems is the #1 priority of anyone who wants this country to be #1 in the world again. Corruption, either party, must be stopped.

Your other points, not so much. Example: trying to blame the reinvestment act for the real estate bubble and collapse requires ignoring some facts.
If the problem stems from poor people unable to make house payments, then the rates of foreclosure would be highest in areas where the poor are concentrated.
But they are not.
Fact; millionaires are the ones defaulting on their mortgage obligations.

"Whether it is their residence, a second home or a house bought as an investment, the rich have stopped paying the mortgage at a rate that greatly exceeds the rest of the population. "

DanMingo| 7.25.10 @ 7:24AM
the progressive march to universal slavery .
The universal slavery has come about through policies that allowed US based corporations to move their operations overseas where labor is much cheaper.
This has led to our current economic malaise and the lowering of average wages; this is the slavery that corporations have brought us, not 'progressives'.
Wally| 7.25.10 @ 2:01PM

When all the countries in Europe that have almost gone bankrupt due to nationalized healthcare and similar socialist programs and are now moving away from socialism, Obama, Reid, Pelosi and the other democrats are transforming the US into a socialist state. They are the true enemies of the United States and must be stopped. But that will not be easy because over the last 50 years, the socialist democrats have built their ranks by pandering to the the elderly (who are now the greediest rather than the greatest generation), the slackers, overpaid government employees at all levels, lazy, unproductive unions , illegal immigrants and all the other groups that feed on the government. Those are the groups that continue to support Obama and the democrats and their numbers are legion. But in the end, their theft of the wealth from the productive members of society will reach it's limit and they will be doomed. The wealthy, who are constantly vilified by the socialist democrats, will ultimately be fine because they will move their money and their families elsewhere. That's already occurring within the US as the more productive and wealthy people have been leaving the bankrupt "blue" states in droves to states that are more business friendly and, accordingly, have less onerous taxes. I hope the blue states continue to suffer from their decades of over spending and over taxing. That's the only way this failed socialist movement will be stopped.
Lone Gunman| 7.24.10 @ 10:37PM
Sorry Nate, but you're one of "them" with that talk. How about the CBO scores on this "obummercare" (sic) health care bill that was suppose to be deficit neutral? NADDA according to the newest CBO scores now! And that "executive" order that supposidly forbids my tax dollars being used for abortions? Since when can a president issue an "executive order" that nullifies a Constitutional law? And since when is it acceptable to cut 500 BILLION dollars out of my Medicare to pay for coverage of 32 MILLION people that are either too stupid or too lazy to provide for themselves? I worked over 40 years, all the while paying into a system that is not bankrupt and I'm not happy about ANY of what went down, and, I'm spending money like a drunk sailor in a bunch of different states trying to get conservatives elected that promise to repeal this (sic) "obummercare" circle jerk ASAP!
Nah Nate, I'll keep my God, guns and guts, you can keep the "change" you can believe in!
DanMingo| 7.25.10 @ 7:32AM
You appear to be misinformed on a few things.
For instance; I hope the blue states continue to suffer from their decades of over spending and over taxing.
Fact; red states take more aid from the federal government, while blue states pay for it!
http://taxprof.typepad.com/tax....._feed.html
The report shows that of the 32 states (and the District of Columbia) that are "winners" -- receiving more in federal spending than they pay in federal taxes -- 76% are Red States that voted for George Bush in 2000. Indeed, 17 of the 20 (85%) states receiving the most federal spending per dollar of federal taxes paid are Red States.

Nate| 7.24.10 @ 9:45PM
Folks, listen:
We already HAVE a public option.
A federal law -- that no Republican has suggested we repeal -- requires that people be treated for serious illness or injury without regard to their ability to pay for treatment.
Why?
Because when countries become wealthy they purchase -- civilization. And it's not civilized to have the poor dying on sidewalks outside of hospitals.
No one wants them to, and no one wants to repeal the law that sees to it they don't.
O.K.? So far, so good?
About 10% of every DIME you pay for insurance or out of your pocket at a doctors goes to cover the uninsured who are protected by the law I alluded to above. About 50 billion dollars a year worth. The OTHER 50 billion or so it costs comes from local and federal funds -- from TAXES.
So we pay about 100 billion a year for the poor to receive treatment when they are seriously ill.
For LESS than that amount of money we could give these people regular medical care, which gets more bang for the buck, which is more humane, more cost efficient, and all around a better idea. Naturally, we're not really doing that, but we're doing something like it with the new health care reform.
Essentially, we're starting to make the public, socialized health care system we already have more cost efficient.
FREECracker| 7.24.10 @ 10:26PM
What a bunch of BS
Nate| 7.24.10 @ 11:11PM
What's BS?
Do you disagree that the law I refer to exists?
Do you disagree with my numbers?
Look: as a society, we've decided we are not going to let the poor die on city sidewalks.
We have MORE than a public option.
We have SOCIALIZED MEDICINE.
Only we don't administer it efficiently.
And no one -- NO ONE -- is saying we should repeal that law. No one. Thus, everyone agrees we have and should have socialized medicine. Right now, it's set up so that insurance companies profit enormously from this system. We could make the same amount of money -- or less -- go further and do more with less complexity, stress, and waste. That would be what we on the left want.
ds80| 7.25.10 @ 12:04AM

Now all of us will be left to die on the sidewalk because of ObamaCare. They're called "DEATH PANELS!"
Walt| 7.25.10 @ 8:04AM
Nate,
Partially correct. Non-paying individuals do get health care under the current system.
However, you make a very large assumption that putting gov't in charge is the way to make it work better. Government is not a model of efficiency as you claim it is. Even when well intentioned it is full of mismanagement, career people who hide behind incompetence, etc. Not to speak of corruption.
How is the current health care law going to work? By forcing people to buy insurance, but only insurance with benefits explicitly dictated by the government. Want a more comprehensive plan? Well I hope you are OK with a 40% tax surcharge on that.
If as you say it is less costly and more efficient to just public option the uninsured, why all the new taxes in the health care bill? Why force everyone to buy insurance? Why limit (through crazy taxation) private plans that fall outside the gov't mandate? Why can't they just sail through on current tax revenue if it's going to "save" money?
The reason is that there is a big difference between a basic minimum and a complete health entitlement. Non-payers are being equated in terms of plan with those who work all their life. It is a redistribution of the property (money, etc) of workers, and the gov't always takes its cut as well as the increase in power and control over the populace.
Our skyrocketing medical costs are due to patients being disconnected from the costs of their care. That is why HSA's work. When a patient can get a "free" MRI, sure why not. But in an HSA many patients will elect not to if it is not really critical; after all that money comes out of their pocket.
Wally| 7.25.10 @ 2:09PM

Yeah, because the watered down version of Obamacare that the Dems barely wrangled through was SOOOOO popular with the American people. Former Senator Harry Reid will never see a public option or anything else Odumbo and his minions are trying to force on Americans. They will be in the unemployment lines themselves come November 2010 and 2012. God help us all until that time. No more piling on of unsustainable debt. They all have to go, or we can say to the America we all love-- R.I.P.

Complaining on here won't do a think . We need to vote these bums out of office. We MUST donate $$$ to conservative candidates and all of you who NEVER EVEr were active in politics need to shut down your computers and get out and participate. Join a Tea Party Group , work for conservative candidates and cough up a few bucks for the cause. If we don't the likes of Reid and Pelosi will continue to spit in our faces and destroy life as we know it in America.
Tommy| 7.25.10 @ 1:59AM
The reasons SS is going broke is that congress have raped the fund and so many people are on SS disability now it is unbelievable. Worse thing government allowed was letting lawyers advertise on TV, you get turned down for SS disability and they will get it for you, I guess that means they will tell you how to lie right so you get it. Lets get these people checked out and kick off the drug addicts and drunks. We paid for this all our lives and before long if we don't watch it they will raise the age so high we will be almost dead or dead before we qualify.
smb12321| 7.25.10 @ 8:33AM
NO, SS is broke (not "going") because of simple economics. Fewer and fewer workers are paying in vs more collecting. When established the birth rate was much higher. Europe is having even a worst time since their population is actually declining. Eventually, all private capital will be consumed and we reach the dead end.

---Public HANGINGS!---
DAnMingo| 7.25.10 @ 11:07AM
Hangings are only appropriate for really serious crimes, and greedy stealing, unfortunately, is not a hanging offense in the US. In fact, it is often admired (Wall Street anyone?)
Treason (like revealing the identity of an intelligence officer/operation), crimes against humanity (illegal wars and genocide, war crimes and torture) are and should be hanging offenses.
Clinton (Bill) side by side with Bush (W) for a start

England's system is totally socialized and an entirely different entity from the system recently passed.
There is no valid way to compare the two.

Harry is a true socialist progressive of the Henry A. Wallace era. Just as Britain is dumping govt. controlled healthcare, of course, liberal Dems want it to bankrupt and control the USA all at the same time. No reform of SS and Medicare , of course, just tax all those good white Pubs. A problem of course is that NE Pubs like Snowe, Brown,Collins think this is a grand idea. The answer is to un-elect every Dem possible on local, state and Congressional elections in Nov. Vote out Dem guvs too. Remember, redistricting is going to take place and no one with a brain wants any progressive Dem to redraw those lines.

Now, if you want to call him a liar for saying "This War is Lost" about Iraq but saying how wonderful things are there now that Obama is in the Oval Office, there's a point you could make.
(McCain pushed for the surge, Bush finally embraced it, Reid and Obama opposed it the whole way but didn't prevent it when the time for votes came. Today Iraq is much better. Thanks McCain and GWB.)

Pick a leftist's nose and charges of "hate" and "racism" come tumbling out.
Yes, we hate -- absolutely despise -- what the radical left is doing to this country, against its will.
But which part of the Constitution states that health care is a "right"? Whatever shortcomings the system had COULD have been addressed without tearing apart a system that a huge majority was happy with -- even if they wanted some reforms -- and turning it over to the incompetent, hapless government.
The people didn't -- and DON'T -- want your "reform." And frankly, that's the only thing that matters. But then, when has the will of the people ever mattered to the fascist left?
And last time I checked, it is the radical left's sharp move to the extreme left that the country is rejecting out of hand.
Time to open your eyes, while your finger is deep up your nose.
rbblum| 7.25.10 @ 2:49PM
Harry Reid's mindset might not be a bad thing . . . for, to have the public option would accelerate the need to address America's unsustainable financial path, allowing 'the people' to start anew in refounding the United States of America according to the US Consitution and adhering to sound fiscal & monetary principles.

You know - when I see remarks about Social Security being broke (or in Harry's words - not going broke), it angers me. The politicians have STOLEN the money that was to be in those coffers. That was OUR future, our money...we paid for the generation before us and they took the money from a fund that was for SOCIAL SECURITY ONLY and moved it to fund pork projects. So - we paid for it once, we are still working to pay for it again, ....if that were in the private sector - jail time. It's just wrong!

Harry Reid and all such "career politicians" must bear the burden of why were are where we are. The real problem is this: even if somehow the Republicans win both houses of Congress (a long shot at best), they have POTUS and thousands of czars and bureaucrats lined up to do Obama's bidding. We cannot vote them out. Even Bush had to wade through 8 years of Clintonites in State and other departments who were more than willing to subvert every move he made. Sad fact is, we cannot vote all those systemic parasites out. R. Crawford| 7.25.10 @ 9:30PM
Deceit is the only approach that works with liberals. Their philosophy of governing is the state over the individual. Wealth re-distribution is the ultimate objective of virtually every program.
Thankfully, they've exposed themselves to mainstream america in the last two years and the madness will now stop in November. Just wait and see.
Titainiumman| 7.25.10 @ 9:33PM
When are the republicans going to call for the attorney generals resignation? This racist should have been canned when he dismissed the black panther case.He has shown himself to be just another incompetent Obama psychophant.
Greg Miller| 7.25.10 @ 9:49PM
America is mad, mad, mad because Obama can't fix America now. He was hired to fix it and he was on the way then BP spread oil all over the Gulf. He has made some movement in America towards decent health care. He is trying to get us out of two wars started by them and he is trying to bail us out of a total world depression, caused by them, and to fix the system so that it doesn't happen again.
We are mad because the Government does not work. We keep forgetting that takes a couple of years to fix a broken Government Work Force.
And we are mad at him because he can't create employment other then Government jobs. Folks he can't bring the jobs back, they are gone. Either you demand jobs from the financial sector or you work for the government or go on welfare, there are not a lot of options.
America was created because we wanted something better and we were willing to work fore it. We took over a land that was like Eden and we moved here to better our selves. We moved to America from all over the world because we wanted something better for ourselves and our children. And we worked for it. In the beginning we had great leaders who tried to set up a government that was structured to benefit every citizen of America, and they did a very good job. It is too bad that they did not realize that Capitalism needed to be controlled from the beginning. They did not realize that men would create a world where businesses had the same rights as citizens and were not responsible for their actions as citizens are. The founding fathers did not realize that Capitalism is too addicting to left uncontrolled.
If you want to help fix this problem you can starting telling Capitalism that this is a Democracy. If not you can move to Panama where you can afford to live well with very little money plus they have a good national health care system with very skilled medical people.

Gawd, what a hopeless moron--our disastrous Public School System strikes again!

Despite what you hear about Canada's healthcare system through the US media, over 80% of Canadians would rather have our system vs. the American system.
To think America has more people without health care than there are Canadians.
Then again, how is America to know much of anything when factual news is obsured by special interests.
If Americans do want their country back, they should do what Canadians did and limit corporate contributions to federal parties to $5,000.00. If you sell out to money, you will always be sold out.
Osamas Pajamas| 7.26.10 @ 12:11AM
Wrong, sport. If "over 80% of Canadians would rather have the Canadian medical system rather than the American medical system, that's the Stocholm Syndrone --- they're brains have been pizzed on for so long that they don't know which end is up. And where did you get that "over 80%" figure --- a random sample of socialists? Now, I represent what YOU would call "a special interest" --- the privtaley-employed taxpayers of America. They are not eager to let a bunch of government bloodsxckers hijack their medical insurance in order "Spread Da Wealf Aroun!" in OhBummer's ignorant words. And limiting corporate political contributions for any reason is a violation of constitutional guarantees of freedom of speech, the lies of the Democrats notwithstanding. In short, you are pixxig America's soup with your bad ideas. Get out. Go die in your stupid, government-run medical system.
John Vickers| 7.26.10 @ 12:40AM
Your hate is typical of what we see up from south of our border. Angry and uneducated.
Try and comprehend this:
a) The average Canadian lives three years longer than in your great America due to universal access to health care.
b) We have provinces with lower tax rates than many US states.
c) Minimum wage is $10 and we have a lower national unemployment rate
d) We have social programs like your media aid hwoever we are not a socialist state. Then again, does your average American even know what socialism is? I think not!
Patriot| 7.26.10 @ 1:37AM
Hate? doesn't take much to get your pretty pink panties in a pinch, does it, little weenie?
You inserted your nose in a conversation that is none of your business, so don't whine and complain when you get it tweaked!
You Canadians are predictably tedious; smug, arrogant and thin-skinned. We don't care what you think!
Sam Adams| 7.26.10 @ 12:05AM
Reid says we're gonna "have a public option" [socialized medicine]. I have a better idea. Let's get the Sons of Liberty together with a list of names and a bunch of rope, and have a few lynchings. The only good socialist is a dead one.
Patriot| 7.26.10 @ 12:24AM
Go away, troll. Your Fascist Liberal hate is not welcome here.

Canadians die of cancer at a much greater rate because their "wonderful" socialized medicine system rations expensive drugs that cure certain cancers. "DEATH PANELS" if you will.
Thanks, but NO THANKS!!
Patriot| 7.26.10 @ 1:31AM
Triple posts? What a loser.
John Vickers| 7.26.10 @ 12:54AM
Is that why we live three years longer than Americans? The only death panel on the continent of North America is the American policy of not providing health care to a population of people greater than that all of Canada!
Patriot| 7.26.10 @ 1:30AM
No you don't--your figures are skewed because we try to save the sickest people and tiniest babies among us.
You ration medical care and allow those who are the sickest to die or don't even bother fighting for the tiniest preemies like we do. Your wait times and cancer death rates are much higher than ours, too.
Every American gets medical care if needed--it's already the law; usually at the Emergency Room.
Our system is not perfect, but neither is yours, and most Americans abhor the intrusive Nanny State--unlike you State-dependent Canadians.
Besides, we could help more Americans get medical coverage without destroying the great medical care that 80% of Americans already enjoy. ObamaCare is a Fascist Liberal power grab, pure and simple. The traitorous democrats don't give a damn about the American people--it's all about power and control with them.
Obama is ruling, not governing, against the will of the American people, and he and his treacherous party will pay a steep price for their deceitful arrogance.
The Government just makes things worse--where will you go for good medical care when our health care system stinks, too?

This Person is not only STILL in the senate, but majority leader. I would vote for a goat before I would vote for this suspicious character.
Yes, I am a Nevada resident and NOT proud when I hear his name - especially in context to representation.
ringmaster76120| 7.26.10 @ 1:45AM
Public to Harry Reid; If we have a "public option", we are also going to have a public "political lynching". If you would only listen, you could hear the lynch mob already willing and eager now.
ZerObama| 7.26.10 @ 1:58AM

Is Harry Reid insane?? If he wants his "public option", he better hurry up and force it through in 3 months. Come November, this fascist regime will come tumbling down.
Steven the patriot| 7.26.10 @ 7:10AM
Hey harry, take your public option and shove it where the sun don't shine. You are a pinko/comunist and soon to be unemployed along with the other 18% of Nevada. 2010 & 2012 we take out country back from you facist/communist/progressives/anti-American democraps.
Cabllero361| 7.26.10 @ 7:37AM
Public, fixed price, rationed systems cannot survive alongside truly private alternatives. This has proven to be true in other economic sectors where there is public ownership or even a few private actors with a state sanctioned monopoly (e.g. utilities). Stop the public option!
Caballero361| 7.26.10 @ 7:39AM
In other words, since the public option cannot co-exist with private alternatives, they will inexorably kill off the private alternatives in order to keep the public system, not as an option, but as the only available system.
JCIll| 7.26.10 @ 8:06AM
How ironic that in the same week that Britain figures out that public health doesn't work, Dirty Harry decides that it is right for the US. What a dork!
skyehawk| 7.26.10 @ 8:27AM
Can anyone imagine Harry Reid giving the motivational speech to our troops going into battle ??He start out by saying "Men this War is LOST !" This piece of useless human debris , that evolved out of the afterbirth of a camel that was gang raped by a group of taliban communists /facists ..needs to quit trashing our troops by calling them "losers" and move on with his pathetic life ..in some remote prison..
skyehawk| 7.26.10 @ 8:45AM
Wondering if Dirty Harry realizes that "public option " means , The public gets to deal with him and his treasonable activities during his tenure as senator , including his sketchy land deals , giving his family union and gov. jobs , to the detriment of regular folks ..This blight needs to be removed from Nevada......
Margaret| 7.26.10 @ 9:39AM
Yes, Reid is correct. We WILL have a public option. It will come in November when all the liberals are thrown out of office and Obamacare is nullified! Bye, bye libs!!
Eagle35| 7.26.10 @ 9:49AM
Obama continues to lie. No tax increases for middle class. My company just informed me of the following. No over the counter drugs can be claimed on my Medical Reimbursement Account. My Medical Reimbursement Account is now limited to $2500 annually instead of current $5000. That is a $700 tax increas just for the new limit. To that add your tax percentage to all the over the counter drugs you buy. Another tax increase. On top of that no Medical Accounts. Reid and Obama-CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN.... WHAT A CROCK.
Lancer| 7.26.10 @ 11:59AM
Folks, I am sad to say that Harry Reid will win in November. Angle is running a terrible campaign and the seasoned politician, Dingy Harry, will take advantage of her campaign incompetence.
Additionally, I don't want to sound wacky, but I believe we are in the midst of End Times and the bizarre, upside down things we are witnessing in this country are not arbitrary.
It will get worse, much worse!
