LAS VEGAS -- In a lunch speech to Netroots Nation, Rep. Alan
Grayson of Florida mocked Tea Party protesters, Glenn Beck, and
Clarence Thomas, and promised another New Deal.
Grayson opened his speech sarcastically, as if he were addressing
a Tea Party.
"Greetings angry protesters," he said. "Let me see the tea bags
dangling from your skulls. Let us genuflect toward Glenn Beck's
TV studio. And now a moment of silence to show our sorrow that
Democrats passed health care reform for all America."
Grayson has become a darling of progressives for making
inflammatory comments about conservatives, but this has left him
more vulnerable back in his home district, which is much more
moderate.
"Let me tell you what every election is about," he explained.
"Every election is about 309 million Americans asking the
question: ‘What are you going to do for me?' And that's fair.
That's what democracy all about."
He went on to outline an agenda for "working people" that
included making it easier to unionize, and guaranteed paid sick
leave and paid vacation.
"We need to have paid vacation," he declared. "Why? Because we
are not slaves."
More relevant to this election, he said that, "People want to
know what the Democrats are going to do for them, and people are
afraid of what Republicans are going to do to them."
During his talk he took a jab at Supreme Court Justice Clarence
Thomas.
"We promise people a workplace where they won't have to face
discrimination, unless, of course, the EEOC is being run by
people like Clarence Thomas," he said.
In closing his speech, he announced that, "What we're promising
people is a new New Deal."
"Let me tell you what every election is about," he explained.
"Every election is about 309 million Americans asking the
question: ‘What are you going to do for me?'
The root of our problems.

Grayson's idea of Democracy is a better described as "Dimocracy."
It is the very thing that makes so much of the 3rd world corrupt.
Our Government was set up as a Republic - a Democracy
specifically limited by a constitution. Ignoring that
constitution is the problem exemplified by Grayson and his fellow
dimocrats.

I guess Al Grayson hasn't heard of JFK or his inaugural speech
"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do
for your country" . Grayson loves to spend the tax payers money,
just look at all the earmarks he brought to his district at the
expense of the United States. Earmarks for projects that won't
help anyone other than the group for which he got the earmark.
Good thing he is being replaced by conservative Republican
Patricia Sullivan this November.
Tim*| 7.25.10 @ 11:00AM
Grayson is whistlin' past the graveyard .
" The findings of the New York Times/CBS News Poll of Tea Party
supporters augur well for the Republicans in November's midterm
elections: the politically energized supra conservatives -- the
one in five who are universally disaffected with national
conditions, and with Barack Obama and with his policies -- are
likely to be a strong advantage in the midterms, where typically
fewer than four of 10 eligible citizens vote.
The boost that Tea Party supporters give Republican candidates
may be especially decisive this year given how politically asleep
the Democrats appear. In every poll the latter register as far
less enthusiastic about voting than do Republicans generally, not
to mention Tea Party adherents."
Dwight| 7.25.10 @ 11:02AM
Grayson has been ENORMOUSLY profitable in private business and
yet is still a fierce advocate for the non-businessman, worker of
America. That should tell you about his conviction when it comes
to the issue of democracy. He doesn't subscribe to the
conservative deification of the rich. He knows that workers have
power in democracy to stop the bleeding of our resources, only
for increasing stress and decreasing security in our lives.
And enough with the sentence-out-of-context demonizations, aren't
those out-of-style after Shirley Sherrod?
Go Alan Grayson!
Oldefarte| 7.25.10 @ 11:14AM
Obviously Grayson is too STUPID to realize that one of his MSNBC
TV news moronic commentators, Olbermann, is now on vacation
[thanks to conservative Tucker Carlson's company purchasing
his/Olbermann's show] and no doubt will RETIRE from same. As to
his comment about 'working people', give me a break------the only
WORKING that these people do is to get off their delapidated
couches and go to the nearest WELFARE OFFICE to collect the
benefits paid for by 'working' TAXPAYERS and privided by domestic
terrorists like this congressman!!!!
Dominique D| 7.25.10 @ 2:24PM
Alan Grayson is either utterly ignorant of history or considers
his constituents total morons. History is very clear on Franklin
Roosevelt’s New Deal. It was an absolute disaster and perpetuated
the great depression for a decade. Before Grayson makes more
stupid remarks, he may want to take a macroeconomics course at
UCF, where he will undoubtedly learn that Keynesian economics
does not work. Government spending crowds the private sector and
destroys jobs. Only the private sector is capable of creating
wealth and jobs. Government redistribution simply discourages the
entrepreneurial spirit, and drives business overseas. Growing
government debt also affects the cost of borrowing, thereby
limiting future economic growth.
If Alan Grayson knows his history and in spite of it pursues
socialistic policies, (which have failed in every country its has
been tried), then one can only conclude that he cares only about
power, not the welfare of his constituents and assumes that we
are too stupid to know better. It’s times to reverse course. One
person can do it: Patricia Sullivan.
Grayson's bloviating and giveaway policies are coming to end.
Patricia Sullivan is going to oust him out of office and back
into obscurity, where all the other "talking heads" with no
brains belong.
Dave Dimick| 7.25.10 @ 5:26PM

High unemployment, record home foreclosures, massive national
debt and complete departure from the constitutional principles
our country was founded upon will be the legacy of Grayson and
his ilk. The voters of Florida's 8th district will arrange for
him to join the ranks of the unemployed in November. He will be
replaced by a Patriot who will actually represent us according to
our wishes as opposed to simply taking directions from the Party.

NOT ENTITLED to take away from those who do. Those who do not
work are not ENTITLED to have the rest of us pay their way!
Stimulus packages! Healthcare! STOP spending what you don't have.
That's what you can do for me and the rest of the 309 million
voters. Vote for policies that make jobs, not destry them. How
bout that? That would be a good start. Stick to the Constitution
and stop taking our freedoms away by forcing us to buy a product
that we don't all want or need in the form of forced healthcare.
That's what you can do for me. Make decisions that strengthen our
country not pull it apart at the seams. That's what you can do

things. Never mind. Patricia Sullivan will do the job instead.
