I will post these two stories without much comment, except to note that former state Supreme Court Justice Chet Traylor is a solid conservative with a history of top support both from business leaders and from the Christian Coalition. Stories are here and here. National conservatives and Republicans would be foolish if they pay no attention to this. James Carville is sitting down there in New Orleans, ready to pounce.

Anyway, Republicans in Louisiana now have a real choice after all. That's all anyone could ask. That was the goal of my column. If they still choose David Vitter, that's how it goes. If so, more power to him and to the cause of a more conservative Senate.

I continue to be amazed, astonished and saddened by Quin's constant detrimental writings concerning Vitter; since he/Quin claims to be a CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN. As the WSJ recently reported "...........In Louisiana, the oil spill isn’t the only news of the day. Sen. David Vitter finds himself with a well-connected GOP primary opponent: former state Supreme Court Justice Chet Traylor. At the liberal Talking Points Memo, Brian Beutler writes that Traylor got a late start but could catch up quickly on fund-raising.Traylor was elected to the court on the strength of support from the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, which suggests that Vitter might have lost the support of the business community (at least over the course of the next several weeks until the primary). And, in the meantime, Traylor will make Vitter spend money he had planned to save, and nudge him off his anti-Obama message, or at least distract him from it. Traylor appeared Friday evening with Roy Fletcher, a high-powered GOP consultant whose work helped propel Mike Foster to victory in the 1995 gubernatorial race.Traylor was the very conservative justice who once wrote in an opinion upholding a Louisiana sodomy law that “any claim that private sexual conduct between consenting adults is constitutionally insulated from state proscription is unsupportable,” so you can bet that he’ll blast the already conservative Vitter from the right, and draw blood over Vitter’s high-profile scandals...."; it is obvious to this opining political neophite that this flooding of opposing candidates against Vitter is nothing more that an effort to effect the victory election of Vitter's Democrat opponent. It amazing that this former SC judge's opinion on sodomy is/should be offensive to the multitude of homosexuals residing in that geographical area. Also Wooten's main reason for running is due to Gulf oil spill issues----GOLLY, GEEZ,SHAZAM, he'll really make a wonderful US Senator if elected now won't he. And the idea expressed above that a desire is to get Vitter to quit complaining about Obama [EXCREMENT, the whole damned country is enraged about same on a multitude of issues]! Additionally, if Traylor is/was receiving encouragement from Louisiana Republicans that are dissatisfied with Vitter, and if Quin's stated previously [and/or currently] been involved in Louisiana Republican activities are correct; then the question now becomes IS QUIN INVOLVED IN THIS CURRENT POLITICAL EFFORT TO UNSEAT/DEFEAT VITTER? In conclusion, if these candidates are successful in destroying Vitter's candidacy/US Senate polition to the benefit of his Democratic opponent or one of these Republican nobodies, WHAT DOES/WILL THAT DO to the current tea party and conservative movement that is desperately attempting to derail this radical, extremist political machine that is now running our country?????????

The alternative to Vitter [with the current destruction of the federal government's budget from deficit/debt spending by THE CHOSEN ONE and his Deomcrats, Vitter's defeat will most definately add to taxpayers' financial problems if another LOUISIANA PURCHASE politician becomes US Senator]:

Melancon defends taxpayer-funded trip to South Pole The Associated Press Published: Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 1:42 p.m.

WASHINGTON — Last year, U.S. Rep. Charles Melancon, D-Napoleonville, took part in a trip to study climate change that cost taxpayers more than $150,000 and included a cable car ride through the Australian rain forest, a tour of a penguin breeding ground and a visit to the South Pole.Melancon trails Vitter in campaign money, opinion poll Melancon says he will run against Vitter for U.S. Senate seat Spending, traveling Melancon dodges citizens Sportsmen can learn about global climate change Melancon takes stance against health plan Commercial fishermen watching food-safety bill in U.S. House How will Vitter's 'serious sin' affect re-election bid? Melancon was one of 10 members of Congress who took the trip over New Year's 2008, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis. The 11-day trip, on which Melancon was accompanied by his wife, Peachy, included a one-night stay at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Hawaii, the newspaper said.Melancon said Thursday that he paid for his wife's travel. Members flew on Air Force planes, but the of the flights wasn't factored into the cost estimate.A trip to the South Pole cost taxpayers $103,000, according to the newspaper's analysis.A two-day visit to Australia showed lawmakers spent more than $50,000, according to travel disclosure records reviewed by the newspaper.Flight costs could have raised the expense of the overall trip to more than $500,000, according to Defense Department figures for aircraft per-hour operating costs cited by the newspaper.
Two of the contingent but not Melancon spent time scuba diving and snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef.Melancon said in a statement Thursday statement that the trip was important to study climate change and its impact on Louisiana.
"Louisiana is losing a football field of land every half-hour due to coastal erosion and rising sea levels," Melancon said. "Our very survival depends on reversing this trend."Melancon is considering running next year for the seat held by Sen. David Vitter, R-La.Louisiana Republican Party spokesman Aaron Baer said Thursday he had concerns about the trip. "I don"The itinerary reads like a vacation, and I think it would make taxpayers concerned that their money is used to pay for congressional vacations."
Melancon saw the trip as worthwhile. "As the representative of the largest coastal district in Louisiana, I am very concerned about the relationship between rising sea levels and climate change," Melancon said. The trip was led by Rep. Brian Baird, D-Wash., who said it helped lawmakers learn about global warming and monitor how U.S. dollars are spent

PS----SHAZAM, GOLLY GEEWILLAKERS, it's amazing that this country is now going down the financial/political tubes/toilet from the likes of THE CHOSEN ONE and his BAND OF DEMOCRATS and we're somehow worried/concerned with politicians that SPEND THEIR OWN MONEY in whorehouses and YELL IN ANGER at airport personnel? My God giet a grip! This country is dying.....let me repeat DYING [finanancially, morally, politically, militarily and otherwise]. Focus! In November, we as a nation will either go one of two way when we come to the fork in the road. We'll either survive as a country, or become on the final spiriling decent to our eventual destruction. ther is no middle ground/course. We have been slowly swirling around the toilet bowl for decades from the activities/efforts of Kennedy, Johnson, Carter, Clinton, Schumer, Pilosi, Reid, Rangel, Conyers, Boxer, Holder, Axelrod, Emmanuel, etc. Are we going to defeat/damage a SERIOUSLY/PERSONALLY FLAWED candidate/congressman such as Vitter when we are now facing potential death/destruction from the HOPEY, CHANGEY crowd in charge of our country/lives??????????????????????????

Oldefarte, my friend, please relax. I was absolutely blindsided by Traylor's entry into the race. I had no idea he was even considering it. But my argument is precisely that he, or any other solid and serious conservative, will have a BETTER chance to hold the seat than Vitter would. Vitter is vulnerable. He re-elect numbers are under 50 percent, or at least were so in one poll I saw before the story about his awful staffer even got lots of attention. Traylor is a solid conservative. If he gets in the Senate, not only will he vote as well as Vitter, but he likely will be more effective, because Vitter is hamstrung by his reputation for temper, oddity, and transgressions. I would rather have an effective conservative in office than an ineffective one. And I would rather have a conservative who can easily win in the fall elections than a conservative-voting senator who is vulnerable. But now, at least Louisiana Republicans and conservatives have a choice. As I said, if they choose Vitter, more power to them and him. But a choice is a good thing, especially when both choices are conservative and there is no closet lefty trying to swipe the GOP nomination by splitting the conservative vote. This is a good development. And, again, if Vitter wins, I do not expect to write anything else about him during the general election against Melancon. I will gladly abide by the choice of the Louisiana GOP electorate.

Quin, Your political bonofides/credentials are beyond reproach, BUT your constant obsession with Vitter is typical of the constant drumbeat of the Democrats/Melancon supporters in Louisiana. I'll be the first one to agree with you, the tea partiers, etc that where POLITICAL CHANGE needs to occur, I'm with you 150%. IMO, I do not see the political benefit of attacking ovbiously conservative Republicans like Vitter or providing political ammunition to the Democrats/Melancon. It obviously clear to me [and I've never been involved inside of politics as you have your whole life] that this political shotgunning of candidates in the Republican race for Louisiana's US senator can in no way be of any benefit. Hell, I'll even give you the possible benefit of a competative Republican running against Bonner or Shelby over here. But not against Vitter. As stated elsewhere, this will only lessen Vitter's campaign money war chest needed in a run against Melancon. Hades, maybe the national Democrats are financially supporting these Republicans in their last minute run against Vitter. I do not know Vitter or any of the other Republicans or Democrats running in Louisiana, but I think that Vitter's senatorial position is a target that Emmanuel, Axelrod, Garrett and those ilks would deem A CRISIS THAT SHOULD NOT BE WASTED. Melancon is a typical Democrat [like Landrieu] who will kiss up to THE CHOSEN ONE if elected, and more importantly become another Democrat in congress that will further destroy this country. My point is that INSTEAD OF THROWING SLINGS/ARROWS AT CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS LIKE VITTER, WHY NOT RESERVE/EXPEND OUR POLITICAL BULLETS AGAINST THE LIKES OF RANGEL, REID, PILOSI, OBAMA, SCHUMER, STARK, CONYERS,etc. Isn't there enough political MUD out there on each/every one of these radical extremists to fill up an editorial writers waking hours investigating, instead of wasting your time/energy/writing talents upon some weak, flawed [conservative] politician who visits whore houses? If he'd raped a 5 year old boy/girl, I'd be on the bankdwagon with you 100%, but his sins are personal and do not involve taxpayer monies misspent/abused [that I know of]. Let's talk about Barney Frank running a male prostitution operation out of his apartment previously if you want to talk sexual, etc; okay??????????

Oldefarte| 7.11.10 @ 2:20PM

Quin, again I'm preaching to the political choir, but the last I heard was that Vitter had an approximate 20% lead. If these late Republicans result in dilution of same and an runnoff and/or defeat for Vitter, then Melancon obviously gains and possibly wins the senatorial election [as does the Democrats, which is what they want]. The 11/4/08 election was won by the trojun-horsed political tactics [similar to what might now be in play in this Louisiana senatorial race] of THE CHOSEN ONE and Democrats. All I'm asking/pleading is that you consider same!!!!

Having your name in a madams list of customers is no violation of any law, just an embarassment to a republican and a resume' enhancement to a democrat.
