Oily Politics Billowing in Pennsylvania
Last week the attention-starved new Pennsylvania chapter of the League of Conservation Voters (Conservation Voters of PA) issued a pipsqueaky press release calling for Tom Corbett, the GOP candidate for governor, to return a contribution from Anadarko Petroleum, because the company owns 25 percent of the destroyed oil well in the Gulf of Mexico and has not (yet) ponied up for cleanup efforts — so they say.
Last week the attention-starved new Pennsylvania chapter of the League of Conservation Voters (Conservation Voters of PA) issued a pipsqueaky press release calling for Tom Corbett, the GOP candidate for governor, to return a contribution from Anadarko Petroleum, because the company owns 25 percent of the destroyed oil well in the Gulf of Mexico and has not (yet) ponied up for cleanup efforts — so they say. Surprisingly, today the Philadelphia Inquirer took the bait and asked Corbett about the contribution:
Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Corbett said Wednesday he had no plans to comply with a request by an environmental group to return a $3,000 campaign contribution he received May 13 from a part-owner of the deepwater well that is billowing oil into the Gulf of Mexico.
It’s easy to see the partisan hackery running the CVPA, with this move obviously an effort to get Pennsylvania-based eco-left contributions dribbling into its Philly P.O. Box.
How transparent is it? Anadarko gave Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter $10,000 for his primary campaign against Joe Sestak, which CVPA acknowledged! Yet the voter advocacy group did not call for the soon-to-be-former senator to return his donation. Nor has it asked its fellow environmental activist group, Citizens for Pennsylvania’s Future (or PennFuture), to return the $40,000 it received from BP between 2005 and 2007.
