The Spectacle Blog

Remember President Obama saying, over and over, and over and over again, that we should "think about what's happening in countries like Spain", among other European social democratic examples he trotted out depending on the stump speech, if we wanted to see his model for centrally planning a "green economy".

Readers of Power Grab or other of my scribblings know how it is level ground that those countries deeply harmed themselves with precisely those schemes. These nations now are uniformly cutting back on the boondoggles even as Obama recommits himself to recreating them here. And his dogmatic refusal to do anything but pump the gas faster and harder, despite scolding from those who now to varying degrees see what they have wrought, is scaring the heck out of U.S. markets.

So when, as the Irish Times headline today puts it, "Obama blames Europe woes for US economic 'headwinds'", you know we're seeing something unusual transpiring.

On one level Obama is correct when  blaming Europe's woes for scaring markets in the U.S....markets scared about his drive to impose that which caused Europe's woes, here (well articulated by Alan Meltzer in today's WSJ). As I alluded in a post on a different site, it is unfortunate when a president is so fixated on blaming others. Intentionally or otherwise, he tends to miss what's actually going on.

Recreating their obviously costly schemes here is one thing. Recreating them after seeing that they in fact proved to be unsustainable disasters materially contributing to their teetering on an economic precipice is so much worse. But to then blame the Europeans for U.S. economic uncertainty in the face of this possibly tragic farce is pathological.

While single out only one item of his behavior as pathological?

ROBIN [CHICAGO] HOOD AND HIS BAND OF THIEVES' only desire is for Europe to increase their governmental spending upon American goods/services, so that he/they can tax the resultant increased profits from same [and thereby feed the federal piggybank]. They do not care if the US or Europe goes bankrupt in the process, since they have no financial skin in the game. They are not business oriented politicians, but are meerly Chicago COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS !!!!

There is something Obama does not know that the vast majority of US voters do know: He is a chronic pathological liar. Actions speak louder than words. And, The vast majority of voters " get it already" : " its all Bush's fault. Or, whoever. There is abolutely no surprise here at all.

The one thing that I would like to see is for more Republicans to call BHO out on this To the American voter the question should be posed: Can you vote for a President who always blames the "other guy" and never takes responsibility ?
Would you runa business with people who work for you take that position. Time to grow up or shut up.

Well put Martin. You've expressed much of my thinking perfectly. About this pathological lying: what just floors me is the fact that, once he arrives at the meat of a speech, you don't even need to be particularly well informed to spot the repeated, bald-faced lies as they start spewing forth, yet no one-- no one!-- ever calls him on it, ever. As you say, it would be a breath of fresh air if the Republicans had a guy designated to call them out. But alas, they don't have the guts.

Off post slightly but; would someone who has more study of the law than I please explain the word"misdemeanors" as used in the Constitution. I watch and listen to the POTUS, and so far I can come up with "malfeasance", "misfeasance" and "non-feasance" in his words and actions, yet no one considers them suitable for impeachment. Given a singe one might not be, but Obama is guilty of serial disregard and multiple events. But of course I only had 1 year of International Law, so what do I know?

Cuffs| 7.1.10 @ 10:46AM

Obama should be tried & impeached
for criminal negligence regarding his handling
of the gulf oil spill.
Americans a letting him get away with murder
we just sit back and take it.
Americans need to wake up--how long are we going to tolerate this dangerous, criminal
fraud of a man?

Obama will continue to push the envelope because he has no one who will confront him in Congress or elsewhere. How many times does he need to mandate provisions that are unconstitutional without a whimper from anyone as to it's illegality according to our Constitution! With the Congress and Senate as well as the executive branch in his control, the pubic feels useless to stop him! For the life of me, I cannot understand why there isn't a statesman among the democrats that will stand up and say, 'this is not right!' I am waiting for another "Mr. Smith goes to Washington" moment, when someone with true ideals realizes that what is transpiring with Obama's agenda, is detrimental and dangerous to our country, a country that our kids will be living in austerity and dependant on the government for sustenance because of the debt put on them by this administration as well as a country we will not recognize as the same country in which we grew up.

Right now there is a struggle between two groups within the Demo Party which is similar to the fall of the Romanov's. There is the usual culprits the activists and then there is the power politico's. First the politico use the activists to fell the monarchy, then the activists exterminate the politico and surprise the militarist exterminate the activists. Zero is for a complete change of America (destruction of individual wealth, destruction of merit recognition and complete governmental absolution of individual choice). He is relying upon fanactical activist attacks for votes. The activists are now turning on him for their/his agenda accomplishments. When they win he will not be radical enough for them and will have to be "replaced" because he follows their orders and does not know what to do on his own.
