Big Government Hayworth

I understand why many Arizona Republicans would want to dump John McCain for a more conservative Senator, but I’ve never understood those who argue that J.D. Hayworth is the conservative who should replace McCain. Hayworth, after all, was a top recipent of donations linked to corrupt lobbyist Jack Abramoff, and was a reliable vote for President Bush’s big government agenda.

The weakness of Hayworth’s claim to be a small government conservative was brought into sharper focus with the release of this 2007 infomercial that Hayworth recorded for the National Grants Conference, which offers seminars on how to people can get free money from government through grants.

The video clip below, reported  Dan Nowicki (and which I saw via Dave Weigel) features people bragging about how they get money from the government.

“I was able to get a grant for $13,000 for my roof, for the electrical work — I don’t have to pay any of this money back,” one woman boasts at the beginning of the video.

Hayworth chimed in, “You may think what you’ve heard is too good to be true, but let me assure you, it is real. It’s available. And it’s something you should take advantage of.”

Even more disturbingly, Hayworth invokes Ronald Reagan to justify it and argues that people deserve all of this government largesse because it’s really their money. This takes a completely collectivist view of taxes and doesn’t take into account how much any given individual actual pays to the federal government.

You can watch the whole sorry thing below.

The Arizona Tea Party is Standing Down in this Republican Primary & won't endorse either of these two questionable candidates .

Arizonans could Write In A Protest Vote .

McCain-Kennedy ,McCain-Lieberman , McCain-Feingold , Gang of 14 , Opposing Bush Tax Cuts of 2001 & 2003.

McCain's A Serial Traitor to Conservatism.

The Tea Party Rebellion Escalates.

134 to November 2nd.

The National Council of Complete and Absolute Idiots has also decided to stand down. The way the Idiots figure it, when forced to choose between two big spenders, letting the one who'd push amnesty win makes more sense. More people should listen to both the Tea Party and the Idiots; they've definitely figured it all out.

Do Your Homework .

"The organizers behind the four largest Arizona Tea Party organizations - the Tucson Tea Party, Greater Phoenix Tea Party, Flagstaff Tea Party, and Mohave County Tea Party - issued a joint press release Monday announcing that they would not endorse in the race.

"The Tea Party is a non-partisan, grassroots movement that stands for limited government, free markets, and fiscal responsibility. Both McCain and Hayworth's records during their many years in Washington leave much to be desired on these issues," said Robert Mayer, co-founder of the Tucson Tea Party. "It is their job to hold themselves up to these values and fight for our votes."

Like I said, more people should listen to the Tea party and to the National Council of Complete and Absolute Idiots. Even the American Association of Complete Dunces Who Do Little More Than Wave Signs And Act Like Little Kids agrees!

Of course, those who support our borders - and who realize that immig. is more fundamental than spending - might want to listen to people other than the Idiots, the Dunces, and the Tea Parties.

Jim Deakin has been the third, and better, candidate but no one knows of him. He doesn't have the backing of the big guys, but he has been running from town to town to get people to know him. He may not have experience, but he has principles.

"I was able to get a grant for $13,000,.... I don't have to pay any of this money back" Oh, isn't that nice? I wonder who will have to pay it back? Would that be me? Do I have to pay your grant money back now? I hope your free friggin' roof falls down on your head tonight!!

"It's not free money, it's your money" J.D. Hayworth

No J.D. it's not really your money as you say, it's your neighbor's money, it's my money, and you're promoting stealing it from them and me. And another thing, this video was not made back in the 80's or something, this was made after 2007, so he can't say it was an youthful indiscretion or something. This was made after he was a U.S. Congressman, and now he wants to be the next Senator from the Great State of Arizona? John McCain just won re-election to the Senate because of this commercial, J.D. Hayworth is done!! You can't explain this away J.D.!! You are no Conservative!! You're just another thief!!

I was so close to sending money to this scumbag's campaign, I'm glad I saw this video first. I think I'm going to sit out the entire Arizona Senate race now. I'm not a McCain guy, never have been, but I really don't like Hayworth anymore, as of tonight!!

I think this just demonstrates what voting for the lesser of two evils buys you... or buys your neighbor with your money.

Watching McCain and Hayworth I'm reminded of an old "Simpsons" episode where Bob Dole and Bill Clinton are both replaced by evil space aliens. Homer unmasks the two just before the election but the aliens tell the public "it's a two-party system, you have to vote for one of us". The audience mumbles "he's right, it is a two-party system" but then a lone voice is heard "I'll vote for a third-party" and the alien replies "go ahead, throw your vote away".

I'm not in favor of a third-party but I do frequently wonder if I'm not throwing my vote away but voting for the GOP.

darcy| 6.21.10 @ 9:17PM

I will not vote for McCain; Hayworth is only little better than the Mickey Mouse I would write-in since I've sworn off holding my nose to vote for a McCain or any similar establishment lefty in rino drag. Build the "dang" fence? Sure, now that you're facing serious competition, Johnny.

Two rinos do not a choice make. Except that I'm out for blood when it comes to McCain; call mine the vengeance vote.

J.C.Eaton| 6.21.10 @ 11:19PM

Darcy, couldn"t agree more. McCain has been afforded EVERY chance by us saps and he continues his unbroken streak of crapping in our Easter baskets. Be done with his pusillanimousness. Best,

clairesolt| 6.22.10 @ 2:20AM

I have never thought Hayworth was smart. This proves it!

Ken (Old Texican)| 6.22.10 @ 8:30AM

It just makes you want to puke doesn't it?

Are Arizonans screwed or not?

Are these two the best Arizona can come up with?

Bottom line, Hayworth will be a "back bencher" and subject to some party discipline. McCain will still be sneaking across the aisle from a position of power.
Come November, folks, we have no choice but to vote R.
Just because a person has a 3rd party sticker on his forehead doesn't mean he or she will be any more honest or smart.

Bob Foy | 6.23.10 @ 8:32PM

We, the people, have allowed this to happen. It is time to for revolution with our votes. We must get our country back . Check out this web site for a non-partisan path back to sanity. Our Country requires it ! goooh.com

Dan Conyers | 6.23.10 @ 11:48PM

Jim Deakin is a better candidate than either of the 'good-ole-boys' in the AZ GOP.

Julie | 6.24.10 @ 2:47AM

Chose Buz Mills as a write- in candidate for AZ US Senate in August Primary. McCain's disrespect of voters by pretending to be what he has shown he isn't disgusts me. McCain knows no shame.
