Gag-Fest at the U.S. Open

Much more to say tomorrow. But what a disappointment the Open was. It had all the elements for something truly great, and then EVERYBODY gagged their way in. Not just tough holes, but just badly hit, choking shots. And, is Phil Mickelson EVER EVER EVER going to shoot even par or better on the final nine holes of a US Open when in contention? Just once?

As I said, there will be plenty more to write when there is time. For now, hat's off to winner Graeme McDowell, who seems like a very likeable fellow. And a major bow to Tom Watson. What a great champion of the ages, Imagine at age 60 finishing tied for 29th in a 156-man field at the toughest test in golf. Wow. Also, one last note: Davis Love's 6th place finish gets him back in the Masters after a couple years away. Good for Davis, a class act.

I think he's actually a Scotsman? Graeme is a variation of Graham, an ancient Scottish clan as is M(a)cDowell....

Quin, sure it was a little dull, but as a TV spectator, I don't think the players were given a good opportunity to excell. If I wanted to watch unmakeable putts, I could just go to my local club.
Good entertainment is watching pros read greens and make long/ difficult putts.
I sent emails to the PGA and USGA suggesting the same.
Plus, NBC is dreadful, and trying to make it like the NBA with "night golf" is stupid. It just prolonged the agony.
