Carly Commits Cardinal Sin

That would be former Hewlett-Packard chairwoman Carly Fiorina, Republican candidate for Barbara Boxer's senatorial seat in California, by calling "climate change" the "weather," that is, in the eyes ofUSA Today (and presumably ABC's Bill Blakemore).

That would be former Hewlett-Packard chairwoman Carly Fiorina, Republican candidate for Barbara Boxer's senatorial seat in California, by calling "climate change" the "weather," that is, in the eyes of USA Today (and presumably ABC's Bill Blakemore). She uttered the unpardonable in this campaign ad, earning a "pants on fire" rating from Politifact as well:

Politifact:

First off, Boxer didn’t say she was worried about the weather. She said that climate change was “one of the very important national security issues” — a position in line with the Pentagon and the CIA.

Yeesh -- the way she treats the military, they'd better share her position on climate change!

Meanwhile those of us who understand subtlety and nuance -- usually not in the liberal bag o'tricks -- will catch Fiorina's underlying point that the fake issue of global warming, especially since Climategate, should be treated as trivially as the Left handles national security.

There are tons of reasons not to support iCarly, this one doesn't count.

While AGW is a very, very complicated issue, and while proponents of AGW have not always handled themselves well, and while there almost could be no science more difficult to pin down than climate science, to claim that "global warming" is a "fake issue" is simply foolish.

Pretending that there's a choice between two opposing positions -- that a) global warming is a "hoax" perpetrated by thousands of scientists all over the world or b) that there is 100% certainty about every claim that gets made in favor of AGW -- may satisfy you, but it is rash and rather cowardly I think. Living with the uncertainties and potentially frightening scenarios that science -- REAL science -- offers, at its best, is most certainly not always fun, and the findings of climate scientists cannot be explained by retarded talk show hosts on Fox News, but none of this means people shouldn't expend a little effort to LEARN something about this issue -- particularly they make fools of themselves by opining on the topic in public.

Nate,

Ever heard of the book "Elements of Physical Geography" by Strahler & Strahler? This happens to be the text of my freshman Physical Geography class. Though the authors posited that from a long-range standpoint, Man's combustion of fuels has some serious implications which should be studied with care, on page 60, the authors wrote: "Assuming that the atmospheric warming because of increased CO2 is a valid effect in principle, some other factor, working in the opposite direction, has entered the picture, and its cooling effect has outweighed that of warming by CO2." That's what was hidden by the so-called weather experts at East Anglia, Penn State, etc. As a matter of fact, the professor who taught the class repeatedly expressed concerns not about global warming, but actually global cooling, since 1940, and the related increasing low crop yields, particularly in Russia. You want to buy into the hype, if not fraud? By all means, knock yourself out. I won't, and more and more around the globe feel as I do. By the way, as others have posited, if the data by the proponents of man made global warming had been so irrefutable, why did they falsify, lose, and lie about the hard data? First, communism/socialism failed, so they came up with another false belief system, global warming, then climate change, to manipulate and subjugate humanity. Guess what? Neither the Chinese nor the Indians, whose economies are the fastest growing care, and neither do the Russians, or anyone else other than the dupes in Western Europe and those in the U.S., from whom the likes of Al Gore, etc., have profited to no end.

1) There was first in the 1970's the global cooling scam (see e.g. Newsweek April 28 1975 on the Internet); the government-paid scientists (90% of them are rejects of private enterprise) recommended to fight the new ice age by sending our war planes to cover the polar ice with soot in order to increase solar heat and so prevent crushing of New York skyscrapers by the new glaciers;
2) When that did not work we had the global warming hoax in the 1990's, proclaimed by mainly the same government-paid scientists (Dr. Hansen of the NOAA, for example); to prevent the massive heating, fires, flooding of coastal cities, disappearance of Florida, California, and Caribbean islands, massive hurricanes, global famine, and other catastrophic events we should nationalize oil and gas and coal and electricity companies;
3) after 11 years of considerable cooling we are now faced with the climate change flimflam where whatever happens with our climate we should nationalize oil and gas and coal and electricity companies; and why not our banks, car and insurance companies while we are at it. To prevent this catastrophe the best vehicle presumably is international agreements enforced by the United Nations world government.
As for the influence of carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas: on a normal day the atmosphere contains 20,000 ppm (parts per million) of water vapor and about 300 ppm of carbon dioxide. The government-paid scientists say that an increase of 100 ppm of CO2 over the next 50 years will result in a catastrophic warming. The thermal absorptivity of water vapor is 4 times larger than that of carbon dioxide; it follows that the CO2 increase will increase the overall thermal absorptivity of the mixture by about 1/8 of one percent. The production of methane from livestock flatulence and the rotting swamps (called "wetlands" by the environmentalists) vastly surpasses the influence of human-produced CO2.
There is the Global Warming Petition Project (see Internet) where 31,478 US independent scientists declared that there is no anthropogenic (human-caused) global warming; of these 9,029 are scientists with PhD degrees. Our environmentalists tried to sabotage this effort by submiiting phony names with phoney degrees - and then claimed the whole effort by the Petition scientists was a fraud. It took us 3 years and a lot of private money to verify the credentials of all the signatories and clean up the Petition of those saboteurs. See also Manhattan Declaration with more such signatories, plus a large number of scientific groups from other countries who state the same.
I am one of these signatories, MS and PhD degrees from UCLA, with concentration in thermodynamics and heat & mass transfer.
I think to fight this communist attempt to secure a permanent hold on power should not be fought on the narrow grounds of more taxes - that is the losing proposition; where about 50% of the population is on some kind of welfare we will always be outvoted. The battle should be fought and won on the firm scientific basis.
4) And now we have "cap™" power grab.
SCAM - HOAX - FLIMFLAM - POWER GRAB!!!

Marc Jeric,

Outstanding! Thank you.

2Anglico| 6.7.10 @ 9:14PM

Why did the believers have to lie? AGW is a HOAX!!! Perpetrated to control every aspect of human existence. I choose to RESIST!

Nate| 6.7.10 @ 9:54PM

You don't know what you're talking about. You're in good company here. All eleven of you agree that global warming is a "hoax." Enjoy yourselves.

Curtis Rasmussen| 6.7.10 @ 11:39PM

The CRU data supporting global warming or climate change has been intentionally lost. Why? Because stolen emails showed the numbers have been fudged to make warming the new false reality.

Understand that Nate does feel global warming. If he would pull his globe out of his ass and look around, maybe his opinion would change.

2Anglico| 6.7.10 @ 9:20PM

Just to bring you up to speed: the leading authority on the subject of AGW got caught with his pants down, admitted he made it up, and morons like nate say "well thousands of others agreed". Toatal rubbish is AGW.
Wasn't there a recent volcano that spewed... never mind, dopes.

Nate| 6.7.10 @ 9:57PM

In his last two years in office, George W Bush approved spending tens of billions of dollars on research into AGW, including a massive study -- the first of its kind -- on possible security risks posed by rising global temperatures. Bush did not take as much action as he could have or should have along these lines, but he's to be commended for what he did do. It's odd that people on the lunatic right can't stop for a second to question their own assumptions on this issue when the president who was closer to the oil industry than any other we've had -- except his father -- was capable of doing it.

Nate| 6.7.10 @ 9:58PM

Correction -- W spent tens of MILLIONS on these studies, not billions. It's hard not to write "billions" when talking about government spending now days.

2Anglico| 6.8.10 @ 12:05PM

W's #1 fault was believing donkeys. He thought Ted Kennedy was his bud after they worked "together" on NCLB!

2Anglico| 6.8.10 @ 12:12PM

The temperature of Iran's (and others) nukes is of far greater concern than the vagaries of nature.
Also, NASA has kept track of MEASURED temperatures since the early '70s. MEASUREMENTS ALWAYS take precedence over "models". The actual readings show NO global warming since measurements began.

Oldefarte| 6.7.10 @ 10:45PM

There's been a 'climate change' in the Al
Gore household of late, also!!!!!

Carol | 6.8.10 @ 12:11AM

I fail to understand progressives who continue to support Barbara Boxer. The woman is a WAR profiteer! They are supposed to be seriously, seriously against that sort of thing,,,,

Global Warming. Global cooling. Global Climate Change. Blah, blah, blah. That's all they seem to talk about on the WEATHER Channel. The WEATHER Channel.
Get a life, NATE. Wipe the Oreo Cookie crumbs off your face. The Climate CHANGES all the time. It's called: THE SUN! The SUN gets HOT. The SUN gets COOL. And you IDIOTS keep trying to make your stupid arguments without ever mentioning the SUN.
Stop watching cartoons. Get your own apartment. Try going out with girls. And please, live your life. It's a SCAM. Follow Al Gores' MONEY!
Idiot.

Richard Baker| 6.8.10 @ 7:47AM

Since global warming has become part of the new pagan religion, these devotees won't hear anything even if the idea is nothing but a scam. After all, this would mean that they are mistaken and Gore and his ilk are never wrong, aren't they? Ask them.

randyinrocklin| 6.8.10 @ 11:19AM

The point is that Fiorina believes this crap and she may win the primary thanks to Sarah Palin!

Nate the dazi,

"[...] but none of this means people shouldn't expend a little effort to LEARN something about this issue -- particularly they make fools of themselves by opining on the topic in public."

Physician, heal thyself!

Can you explain the difference between Latent and Sensible heat?
Do you know what enthalpy means?
Do you know how much CO2 is in the atmosphere, compared to water vapor?
Do you know what the increase in CO2 has been, from its low, according to the climate kooks?

Oh...by the way.....global warming is a HOAX!

Maboomba| 6.8.10 @ 8:37PM

There is no issue to debate in the first place. It's nothing more than the power of suggestion, superimposed on the normal multidecadal oscillations. Think about it: temps can't stay exactly the same, therefore they have to go up and down a bit. They are not the stock market. Global warming took hold as people began to trade stocks on the internet, and began to crave a chart that would always increase no matter what. Unlike the stock market, with temps, what goes up must come down, a return to the mean. Astute people predicted not only the whole global warming scare, but the "solution" of a carbon tax, way back in the early 1980's when one could already predict that, like bell-bottoms and disco had gone out of style, so would the then-popular "global cooling" (not to mention "nuclear winter"), and the result would be the prediction of The Beatles:
"tax the air you breathe - (carbon) TAX MAN!"
