Senate staffers Thursday were hearing rumors (ultimate source unknown) that the retirement of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is less than two months away.

The plan reportedly is this: If Elena Kagan’s nomination to the court can be confirmed early this summer, Ginsburg would then announce her retirement, so that confirmation for Ginsburg’s replacement could be finished before the end of the year.

Those who believe the rumor see the Ginsburg retirement scenario as a signal that the Obama administration fears Democrats may lose enough Senate seats in the mid-term election to make it more difficult to confirm a liberal appointee after the next Congress convenes in January 2011.

Furthermore, the rumored plan to fill a second Supreme Court vacancy this year may explain why Democrats are attempting to rush Kagan through confirmation, despite objections from Republicans that there is insufficient time to get complete records of Kagan’s service in the Clinton White House. If Republicans delay the Kagan confirmation hearings (currently scheduled to begin June 28), that could disrupt the timetable necessary for Obama to appoint, and the Senate to confirm, a replacement for Ginsburg before next January.

Of course, all this is merely a rumor on Capitol Hill, but it was being repeated by multiple staffers Thursday, indicating either (a) there must be some truth to it, or (b) the Senate rumor-mill is extraordinarily efficient.

I pray everyday for the health, and safety of the Conservatives still on the Court, I wish them all, the longest of lives. The Republicans have to fight Kagan's nomination at every step of the way, they have to hinder, hamper, and hold up this process in anyway they can (even the old fake fire alarm if they have too; ). President Obama appointing three Justices to the highest court of the Land, of his choosing (if the Ginsburg's retirement rumor is true), has to be made so painful, so tedious, and so lengthy, that he'll have to water down his next choice (the commie parts), just to side step the irritation that goes along with it. Just imagine his next nominee if they don't fight this one? Karl Marx maybe? We'll be living with President Obama for the next thirty to forty years if he gets his favorites choices through, and we can't even stand living with the "actual" President Obama only less than two years after taking office. Stop Kagan now!! Find her achilles heel and make her withdraw her nomination!!

Stacy... An opportunity in every crisis. Do you think Obama will nominate a Rule 5 candidate?

I don't like the fact that single women will be over represented on the court. Single women seem to have the most liberal views. My single friend would rather pay taxes to hire more police, than buy a gun and learn to use it.

I have found single people become used to controlling their world (or controlling people become liberals). If there is a milk jug in the ref. with 1/16" of an inch left, it was they who did it. If they open the dryer and their good black sweater has been dried with the white towels, it was because they did it.

Controlling people exhibit low tolerance for deviations from their world view. We are creatures of experience first, not reason.

Sounds to me like the problem is your circle of friends. Otherwise, your post is ridiculous.

Ruth Buzzy Ginsberg , Sonia "Hot Latina " Stomayor , Elena " Yentle " Kagin !

Will Obama , pick another " Ravishin' Cougar " ?

How about Hillary Clinton? Janet Napolitano?

I always thought Darth Bader Ginsburg was closer to reality. Anyway, it doesn't matter, short of cloning Karl Marx, Obama couldn't pick a justice any further left than her.

Robert, if you're getting wind of this, it must have some truthful legs to the story. It is not surprising that the Democrats would attempt to pull off this political coup of the SC. This group of domestic terrorists currently running this country will stop at nothing to achieve their political ends. Welfarecare, financial/bank reform/takeover, cap&tax;, amnesty for illegals. We are seeing the destruction of America, and if taxpayer-voters do not go to the polls en masse in November+, we will soon turn into another Cuba!!!!!!

I asked my German america friend about this woman and he said: Ruth Bader ist eine gute Senatorin, wenn du mal in den USA bist und dort zeit für ein paar schöne sprachreisen hast, dann rate ich dir einfach mal bei ihr vorbeizuschauen, du wirst bestimmt eine Menge lernen für deinen Sprachurlaub. It now would be sad, that she retires, I liked her.
