"In" Vietnam

Apparently, according to Democrat Dick Blumenthal, it all depends on the meaning of the word "in."

"In" Vietnam
By Asher Embry

There was a Connecticut AG
Who was caught with inflated CV.
He asked: Would it trouble you
If he joined VFW
When he'd served out his "tour" in D.C.?

Lying weasel, he is. He and Tom Harkin are two phony combat vets. Shame on them both. Blumenthal is also stupid enough to go to the VFW and say this. This moron wants to be a Senator? He hasn't the brains to be the Village Idiot.

Spicy Joker| 5.18.10 @ 10:38PM

Blumenthal is worse than Harkin, who at least flew over Vietnam.

Alan, you and Blumenthal are typical liberals: You're a pervert and Blumenthal's a coward.
A match made in hell.

Warrior| 5.18.10 @ 9:40PM

Another example of all that's wrong in politics. His middle name must be Clinton.

Wow !

Blumenthal Stoops Low !

Duty, Honor , Country !

Y'know how you know that Blumenthal is a lying weasel? Because I'm an accountant (e.g. a numbers guy, not a word guy) and I understood IMMEDIATELY when I read Blumenidiot's quote the distinction between "in" Vietnam and "during" Vietnam, and what he was actually trying to convey. No misplaced words, no poorly chosen words. It was deliberate.

In and during are not interchangeable, and if I know that, then certainly a state Attorney General knows that.

He's the kind of guy who should be NOWHERE near the halls of government or the levers of power in America.

What an incredibly crass dishonor to all VFW, especially Viet Nam veterans. These idiots don't understand they don't control the dissemination of news anymore.

JmsA| 5.19.10 @ 12:55AM

I just watched a video this Blumenthal character. He sounded like a Tea Party member, extolling small businesses. What a phony.

Before Blu threw his hat in the ring there was a website "draftblumenthatl.com"!!
What were they thinking. The Feds tried to draft Blumenthal FIVE times!!!!

Ray:
Great comment.

"I will not let my record be impuned."

What choice does he have?

It sure is funny how these guys try to shift the nature of the accusation leveled at them. He, Dick Blumenthal is accused of lying about serving in war. No one has impugned his actual service, yet that in the thing he makes an indignant defense of.
Of course it is honorable to serve in any branch of the military whether you fight in combat or not, what is not honorable is saying you did fight in combat or war when you did not.
I served in the Marines from 1976 to 1979. Whenever my service comes up in conversation I always state that it was in peace time, although many folks, especially younger ones would never know even if they knew my exact dates of service.
I have never been ashamed of not going to war, and have never been made to feel that way by anyone.
I would never steal that honor from anyone by implying that I had gone to war, and I believe those who do are naive, ignorant, foolish, and probably have an inferiority complex. Or they just want to further their own ambitions by feeding off of the sacrifices of others.

A Republican, having 'mispoken' thusly, would already have done the decent thing and fallen on his sword. But where is the shame in this guy? Now he is lying about his lying. A disgrace.

Cindy Merrill| 5.19.10 @ 12:44PM

My husband served 2 years in a Vietnam Mash Unit, and he is so enraged, he's out taking a walk to calm down. He thinks Blumenthal should be forced to resign and I agree.

SoCon| 5.19.10 @ 3:10PM

God bless your husband, Cindy--Vietnam was a rough gig. Blumenthal is dirt and not worth your husband's BP spike!

Please send along my thanks and appreciation for his service.

Milo| 5.19.10 @ 4:04PM

Blumenthal is a disgrace and liar but so was Chris Dodd and the "enlightened " voters of CT continued to put him in office. So Blumenthal just needs to shut up and he will have no problem being elected.

Arnold Persky| 5.20.10 @ 7:28PM

BBlumenthal should get out of the race now. Tarnished ggods. I wouldn't trust him as far as this Viet Nam Vet could at my advanced age. We in Connecticut deserve and require people of honor and integrity to represent our interests. Dodd only represented his. I suspect this story teller will do the same. My surprise is that the Vets where he gave his liitle speech were in his corner. Shame on them. I can't believe these guys belong to those "FEW GOOD MEN"

Rosegrower| 5.21.10 @ 10:24PM

An attorney general who "misplaces" words? I would worry about this person writing a brief or an opinion. What is he doing in a profession that demands accuracy and specificity of language? Time for Blumenthal to consider a dramatic career change.
