The respected Franklin and Marshall College Poll has today released its latest results in Pennsylvania’s Democratic U.S. Senate primary race — and things aren’t looking good for Arlen Specter.

Specter trails Congressman Joe Sestak 38%-29% among all registered Democrats, with 31% undecided. Among likely voters, Specter trails %38-36% with 25% saying they “don’t know.”

The poll also matches Republican Pat Toomey against both men, with Toomey beating both: Toomey wins over Specter 35%-33%, while beating Sestak 29%-28%.

The problem for both Specter or Sestak in the Toomey match-up is that the trend nationwide this year is for Republicans — and in that kind of setting Republicans historically have carried the day. In 1994, both Republicans Rick Santorum and Tom Ridge bested Democrats in close races for the Senate and governorship precisely because of this trend.

Pat Toomey faces a primary challenge from Peg Luksik. Peg probably doesn't stand a snowball's chance, but she did reveal herself to be an interesting candidate with solid, traditionally American ideals on a recent PCN " Meet the Candidate " show. One of the most intersting segments was Luksik's plan for reforming public education. She is very concerned about the degree to which education has been dumbed down, particularly in the area of American history. She reported that when she speaks before junior high and high school aged kids and asks them where their rights come from, they invariably say " The government ". Ugh.

I found it ironic that Obama bemoaned the state of our schools shortly after taking office. What else could anybody expect from 40 years of liberal dominance ?

More bad news for the Republicans. Toomey was a sure thing against Specter. Against Sestak, I'd say it is a toss-up. This comes on the tail of Crist's betrayal. With the oil spill, Crist has shifted the political conversation in Florida in his favor. Rubio is no longer a shoo-in.

We,Tea Party Rebels support Pat Toomey.

While Specter & Sestak are busy rippin' the fur off each other , Pat Toomey is building his Campaign War Chest & Name Recognition.

Remember In November !

The Tea Party Rebellion Escalates.

Toomey is not a sure thing against Sestak, but he has positioned himself well against Specter. If Sestak pulls off a win in the primary, it will be a tough race. Sestak is an impressive guy in a way that Specter never has been. He holds some pretty hard-left views that need to be exposed, but his Navy career vaccinates him against a number of lines of attack.

For sure, Specter will be the easier opponent in November because so many people are just tired of the guy, even if they do not warm up to Toomey.

Dan D,

I disagree.
S-P-E-C-T-E-R has the edge, because of all the morons out there who get into the voting booth, and vote for the name they recognize.

Instead of actually informing themselves.
