Oh good grief! Someone needs to tell these movement "conservative" dinosaurs that it is no longer the 1980s, and we are no longer fighting a Cold War. Do they still were Izod shirts and Members Only jackets as well? :-)
We are broke. We cannot continue to play the role of world policeman, and to believe we can is delusional. You cannot have limited constitutional government at home, but unlimited government policing the world abroad.
I am becoming more and more convinced that people like Meese don't even believe this nonsense themselves. They are too smart to actually believe there is some existential military threat facing America. I am coming to the conclusion that these guys are simply acting as mouthpieces for their paymasters in the military industrial complex.
Margie| 5.11.10 @ 6:13PM
Spoken like a true Paul-bot. "The Military Industrial Complex." America "Policing the World."
Right. They're living in a fantasy. Terror? What terror? What? Those little jihadists with the firecrackers, right?
Dan Phillips| 5.11.10 @ 10:53PM
Margie, I think the term "military industrial complex" was popularized by ... who was it ... its on the tip of my tongue ... oh yeah ... President and General Eisenhower. What a pinko Commie wuss he must have been. He was probably a Paul-bot also.
Read my post below. The Meese article explicitly calls for America to police the world. Do you deny this? You can't. It is there in for all to see.
And little jihadist are not a military problem. Domestic terrorism is an intel and immigration problem. If they are not in this country they can't bomb us.
Margie| 5.12.10 @ 12:06AM
I don't care who coined the stinking phrase. I care about how it's used now. And it is used by you Paul-bot whack jobs. You non-interventionist anti-American losers who blame America for "the terrorists are terrorists because of us." ~Ron Paul. You losers who call real conservatives like myself and others, "Neo-Cons." Like we're poison. When YOU are the poison.
And now we have his son to deal with, also running as a Libertarian non-interventionist in Republican's clothing.
I'm in the business of outing him. Sarah Palin~ are you listening?

Mr. Klein,
Thanks for the heads up.
Obviously, Dan has not read...or comprehended... the article. In any event, he is too stupid to argue with. He is merely another "retreater"playing the same old bugle call to retreat.
We have never come close to breaking the bank with defense and "peace officer" efforts.
Nope, it is simply sending food stamps to the Dans of the country that is breaking the bank.
Dan Phillips| 5.11.10 @ 5:29PM
I oppose the food stamp program, but food stamps are a drop in the bucket cost wise compared to defense.
And I did read the article. At best it is mindless boilerplate. At worse it is a foolish call for more internationalist world policing. It claims "our country’s very existence is at [military] risk." Balderdash! Name the threat! But it is not really our existence they are worried about. They are really interested in continuing "America's exceptional role." Did Robespierre sign this document also? I'm sure he could agree with such rhetorical flourishes, revolutionary as they are.
And note the last paragraph. "...promoting international peace through American strength." [emphasis mine] So they are admitting they want to stabilize the world on the US taxpayer's dime. Memo to Meese and company: you are supposed to deny that you want to be the world's policeman when talking to us schmucks even though you clearly really believe that. The storyline you are supposed to pass on to us rubes is that our international presence is essential for OUR security.

Just admit it. You are a physical and moral coward.
You are not welcome in my house.
