The Spectacle Blog

Politico is reporting that House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey (D-Wis.) is calling it quits rather than face a strong challenge from Republican Sean Duffy. Obey has been in Congress since 1969, when he won a special election to replace Republican Mel Laird. Duffy has been reminding voters in the district that a congressional seat isn’t a lifetime appointment.

This “magic wand” exchange is my favorite David Obey moment.

I don't know what's funnier; that this guy thinks he's NOT a liberal, or that he's totally pissing off his base AT THE SAME TIME he's betraying his country. Classic Democrat.

Anyway, normally the GOP doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting Wisconsin.

Then again, it does snow a lot in Wisconsin. ;-)

Good riddance!

Prayers are answered. This jerk has been my congressman since I was 18 years old and while this may be stunning many inside the beltway, Dopey Obey has been strangely quiet here, enough so that when we read an article a week or so ago about Dem's who had commissioned polls but not released results, seeing a $30K spend by this mis-representative of Wisconsin's 7th the conservatives here knew we had at least been heard. This guy wouldn't have handled a stunning defeat well and at his age and with his war chest, he showed he knows when to fold'em. Glorious day here in Wisconsin's 7th. Next up Rusty Foolsgold, ah, Feingold.
