The Spectacle Blog

The Pakistani Taliban (who knew they have a formal structure in Pakistan?) has claimed responsibility for the attempted bombing of New York’s Times Square.

Given that President Obama has discarded the Global War on Terror like a smelly diaper should he be blamed?

Oh, why not. Bush haters blamed everything that went wrong in America from 2001 to 2009 on President Bush, so what the heck.

This was simply a Talaban Over Seas Contingency Operation. There is nothing to see here. Move along.

Sean| 5.2.10 @ 4:17PM

How would they be operating in our country? Maybe coming from our open borders or maybe one of our guest workers? Anyways we need to track every American that buys propane tanks, gasoline and alarm clocks. Not to mention batteries.

Teflon93| 5.2.10 @ 4:18PM

Obama's response is obvious:

"I mean, uh, you can't trust what the Taliban says. Rush Limbaugh's out there stoking up violence and then this happens. Uh, don't tell me it's, uh, all a coincidence."

Svend| 5.2.10 @ 4:28PM

This is who we are to fear? This is why the war on terrorism? A dud in NYC? Camon. I'm not scared anymore.

I do fear the behavior of the state in a situation of permanent war and fear.

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 5.2.10 @ 5:39PM

Umm, What? Are you drinking, and typing in Dutch Svend? That's a dangerous combination to mix!! I'll try to interpret what you were trying to say there, okay?

If what happened in NYC last night (an obviously failed terror attack), is the reason we're in a War on Terrorism? Then we should fear the Government for using these "failed" attacks, as a continuing reason to be at War for years. Is that what you were trying to say? Yeah? That's kind of what I took away from that jumble, that you called a sentence.

When should we defend ourselves Svend? After 3,000 have been killed, or 300,000, or maybe 3,000,000 have been killed. What's the number that would cross the line for you? For me, it's the perpetual threat, coming from a particular religion, that's enough for me to support the War. "One" American is too much for me.

SoCon| 5.3.10 @ 12:38AM

Groucho MARX and PurpleSEIUguy--the old Screeder is getting more desperate everyday!

svend| 5.3.10 @ 10:06AM

The wars and occupations are not against Islam nor are they in any way going to reform Islam. In fact, the Iraq invasion has handed the Iraqi government to Iranian influence, which was precisely what those of us who can 1) count and 2) understand demographics said would happen.

We are heavily armed at home. We're 300 million strong. We can handle terrorism as a domestic policing issue.

I'm not permanently scared. Why are you?

Missy| 5.3.10 @ 2:19PM

The only one whining about fear is you. Obama is still prosecuting both wars, so I guess he's really afraid.

Why don't you go lecture him?

svend| 5.3.10 @ 2:51PM

I don't have his phone number or email address so I'm unable to lecture Obama. Though, I have been lecturing the lefties who, upon Obama's election, suddenly were not as concerned with civil liberties, wars and the rest.

Missy| 5.3.10 @ 3:20PM

That's weak! You sound like you're afraid.
It's quite easy to find both Obama's phone number and email address; why don't you do so? It would take less time than posting your useless comments on this site.

Leftists are running the show now, remember? Go lecture them some more.

svend| 5.3.10 @ 3:53PM

In honor of Missy's outstanding contributions I shall immediately send an email to the White House. I expect the wars will end post-haste.

Missy| 5.3.10 @ 6:46PM

Thank you, Sir!
I want the wars to end, too, you know.

Groucho| 5.2.10 @ 6:13PM

Svend --

You're not going to persuade me with your appeals to common sense and decency. Go back to where you came from, traitor.

Palin 2012!

SoCon| 5.3.10 @ 12:34AM

Smells like Liberal Reader, troll of a thousand names.

Too bad BozObama fiddled for TWO weeks while the Gulf of Mexico strangled in oil. Talk about dereliction of duty.

John| 5.3.10 @ 4:09PM

Its nice that the President of the US is personally responsible for an oil leak. Doesn't matter that BP, the Coast Guard, and DOD were on it immediately. I don't agree with you and call you a liar - that makes me an Unamerican Traitor.

SoCon| 5.3.10 @ 7:19PM

C'mon, John; if GWB had waited TWO WEEKS! to show concern about this environmental disaster you and your leftist buddies would have been screaming bloody murder!
'Fess up now!

All the destruction you see in the Gulf resulting from this terrible accident (?) is OBAMA'S FAULT!

Margie| 5.2.10 @ 6:04PM

I think we should send Svend out into the battlefield for a little taste of the action. He like all the other loony Lefties should shut up until they've seen what our soldiers are up against.

Sounds like the typical attitude of a Nonnie. Non-interventionist. Always throwing stones at and mocking the patriots from their measly little underground caves.

svend| 5.3.10 @ 10:02AM

Why would I head out to the battlefield to fight wars that make no sense?

You all scare too easily.

Groucho| 5.2.10 @ 6:11PM

Vadum is being too tepid.

Of course we should blame Obama that there was an attempted terrorist attack on New York City.

I blame Obama for this attack, and I blame Obama for the attacks of September 11, 2001.

I blame Obama for the recession, the depression, and the crucifixion of Our Lord.

I blame him for the plague, the gout, and the grippe.

I blame him for rainy days, long waits on the supermarket, and the annoying tendency of people on Fox News to be retarded loud-mouths.

I blame him for all the wars that have ever happened.

I blame him for illegal immigration, the oil spill, and the fact that we're not drilling enough oil. I blame him for the drouths and famines in Africa. I blame him for child prostitution, drug cartels, organized crime, and the financial crisis.

I blame him for making Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Dick Morris repressed homosexuals.

I blame him EVERYTHING.

Why? Because he's a communist, and a terrorist, and an illegal alien, and a Muslim, and a fascist, and a socialist. Duh!

Don't you get it?

Jack| 5.2.10 @ 6:27PM

I like the way you intermingle fact with fiction. You must be a speech writer.

Margie| 5.2.10 @ 6:59PM

It just sounds so much like the mockery and sarcasm of the Liberal Reader.

Dixie Pixie| 5.2.10 @ 7:23PM

Groucho---- That was funny.

A even bigger funny was Obama promised that the oceans would recede and the planet would be healed.
Do you still believe Obama now.

Margie| 5.2.10 @ 7:57PM

Haha! Good one, Dixie Pixie. Touche ole!

Dixie Pixie| 5.2.10 @ 8:26PM

Thanks Margie
I am glad you liked it.
I hope Groucho thought it was funny too.

SoCon| 5.3.10 @ 12:36AM

Liberal Screeder is steamed!

Cpm| 5.3.10 @ 8:29AM

Get a grippe, troll.

Margie| 5.3.10 @ 11:12AM

Or the grippe will get you.

Dixie Pixie| 5.2.10 @ 7:07PM

Obama's policy is an outreach to and reconciliation with the international Muslim community. Obama has stated his policy would keep America safer than the Bush policy of preemptive retaliation.

The semi-successful terrorist attack on NY Times Square this makes the 3rd major terrorist attack on US soil. It is past time to consider Obama Muslim policy a failure and Bush's Muslim policy was a success.

Isn't strange that Obama does not only consider his policy not a failure but not even recognize there is even a problem. For Obama it is better for people to die than to admit Obama was mistaken or in error in any way.

After all a Messiah can never be in error and it is a great honor for his people to die in the Messiah's name.

How is that Hope and Change working for you now.

John| 5.3.10 @ 4:11PM

My life has been better since Obama took office. Argue that point, please.

Interloper| 5.3.10 @ 9:53PM

Doesn't everyone remember Groucho's last name?
'nuff said.

Margie| 5.2.10 @ 8:49PM

HAHA!
Now~ is he really a Marxist, or is he just playing on on AmSpec? Zat iz zee qvestion!

Dixie Pixie| 5.2.10 @ 9:00PM

Funny, I always thought Groucho Marx was the better intellectual.
His work certainly did not kill millions and still brings laughter when quoted.

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 5.2.10 @ 9:47PM

Maybe Groucho the "Marx" was the failed NYC bomber bomber last night? Hmm, think about it? One of the eyewitness's heard the man as he ran away from the scene say, "I have had a perfectly wonderful terrorist plot this evening, but this wasn't it." That same eyewitness also said he got a very good look at the man as he passed by, and that he never forgets a face, but in the case of this terrorist, he had to make an exception. That sounds like Groucho now doesn't it? Supposedly, he was going to join the Taliban too, but was quoted as saying, "I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member." Killing New Yorkers with humor, diabolical!!

John Bibb| 5.3.10 @ 1:48AM

The NYC Times Square car bomb seems similar to the one the Jihadis used in an attack on a Scotland airport a few years ago. Apparently they are not smart enough to know how to make gasoline and propane gas tanks into a real explosion. And they don't seem smart enough to do a "field test" of their latest design.
***
The U.S. Air Force used fuel-air bombs in Vietnam to great effect. This could have been a real killer--the U.S dodged another bullet.

If the terrorist want to really PO Mayor Bloomberg they could attack a Bermuda golf course.

Oldefarte| 5.3.10 @ 11:17AM

Nah, I don't blame Obama........Emmanuel, Axelrod or Jarrett, MAYBE!!!!

Quartermaster| 5.3.10 @ 7:32PM

Blame St. Obama? heaven forfend! It's the BusHitler's fault.

mike| 5.4.10 @ 8:30PM

bomb training camp? Are you kidding me? when I was 14-15 we were making pipe bombs with cigarette delay wicks that blew 5 foot deep holes in the ground !! No training camp , no internet, no bomb making books. Every farm kid in america knows how to build a fertilizer bomb. Its simply not happening. Its a rare deal! Look, your more likley to get struck by lightning. There are about 15,000 murders in the us yearly. 85,000 people die each year from alcohol . There were 33,963 fatal car accidents in 2009. Thank god most people are reasonable and know right from wrong. This bomber was a total idiot!!! Thats a good thing!! Bush 2750--- Obama 13 if thats how you want to play this! Jesus!
