Lieberman: 60 Votes Attainable

Connecticut’s Independent Democrat Sen. Joe Lieberman is optimistic about passage of the climate/energy bill he’s been working on with Democrat John Kerry and Republican Lindsey Graham, according to National Journal.

Connecticut’s Independent Democrat Sen. Joe Lieberman is optimistic about passage of the climate/energy bill he’s been working on with Democrat John Kerry and Republican Lindsey Graham, according to National Journal:

NJ: And you think you’re going to find support from Republicans?

Lieberman: We do, and again, whether we get the votes this time is not clear. Interestingly, some of the same things that some of the Republicans are interested in are of interest to some of the moderate Democrats, who are not sure shots, not committed to supporting the bill. So, bottom line, yes, I think we have a chance at a sufficient number of Republicans and Democrats to get to 60. We’re in very intense negotiations with undecided senators in both parties. Do I think it’s possible to get 60 votes this year? I do. Whether we will or not remains to be seen….

NJ: Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., have a competing energy/climate bill and want senators to sign on to their approach. Can you win them over?

Lieberman: The good news is, we share the same goals and they’re prepared to price carbon. I think we just decided that for now we’re just going to go our separate ways. But in the end, I can’t tell you how this is going to happen, because I don’t know, but Senator Cantwell and Senator Collins and Senators Kerry and Graham and I are going to be on the same side.

Lieberman goes on to say he doesn’t expect confirmation hearings for John Paul Stevens’s replacement on the Supreme Court to interfere with his bill’s progress, because the Senate Judiciary Committee will handle most of that work, with little effect on the overall Senate. Could this one be easier for Democrats to pass than health care, since it appears they probably have a couple of Republicans in the fold?

Excellent. Not wanting to take any chance that we would forget by November why we are so pissed off with out of touch legislators, they keep on smacking us around like unwanted red headed step children. I keep saying that nobody can be this stupid, yet our government keeps proving my words wrong.

We had a American revolution to stop this type of tyranny and it's time for another one! The american people are tired of this crap!

In my estimation Joe Lieberman is as dangerous as Obama. HealthCare legislation/law is going to be economically crippling and with that being said, Lieberman is going to try and pass cap and trade, on top of everything else. Can Joe not even imagine the consequences of his legislation? I guess out of control egos rule... Every now and then Lieberman appears to overcome his past democrat inclinations, while masquerading as an independent, but it's all wishful thinking...

Gas prices are approaching $3 per gallon and these clowns want to raise the cost of energy?! I hope there will be enough senators from states that get their electricity from coal to block it. Scarce energy means scarce jobs because manufacturers that use a lot of energy will move to where they can get it. The more I think about it this is a depressingly stupid thing to do. It is an economically disasterous solution to a non-existent problem.

Old Joe Lieberman has, like his friends Lindsey Graham and John McCain, become politically senile from drinking too much of Nancy Pilosi's California corn liquor; and they all need to be put out to political pasture!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well we all knew "Joseph of Liberman" couldn't stray too far off the reservation. He IS from Connecticut after all.

It' time to repeal the 17 Ammendment and put our senators back under the thumb of their state.

There is too much ego-ism involved with these demi-tyrants. This "Federalism Uber Alles" mindset is dangerously out of control and their is going to be a revolution if we can't put this Jihn back into the bottle.

Prediction: When these idiots pass this climate change bull sh**, there will be another civil war. They are putting the very last nail in our coffin, all the while their leader, and our pseudo-president is allowing the RUSSIANS to drill for oil in our gulf of mexico. Guess what Messr's Liberman, Kerry, and Graham-you left wing-nutcases who are bought into this scam, or are going with it, even though you know it is fraud, will probably be the first casualties in the polls. Soon after that, if the American public doesn't get all of the lefties gone who's seats are up for grabs, and doesn't defund and repeal all the damage you boys have done-they will take to the streets-with guns, torches, and pitchforks. You had better start listening to your constituents-because they are angry and they are going to show you just how angry!
Personally, I am just leaving the country-cause I don't see any way to save it. But those who don't have the ability to leave-they are armed to the teeth-and are becoming more desperate every day. there are fewer jobs daily.
The only reason the markets are doing well, is that the fortune 1000 are cutting back on employees and gaining larger profit margin because of that one little detail-less mouths to feed. Only problem-it won't last much longer-because as the general public become more and more broke, so will follow all of those providers of goods and services who are still profitable. When that happens-the federal government can't run every business in this country-then the anarchy kicks in-and the federal government falls. Have none of you read a history book? Do you not remember the Roman Empire? We are a few thousand years past then, and things can go south a lot faster nowadays boys-take thine heads from thine arses and look around you. America is falling on your watch and you are about to give it a push over. ARE YOU MAD?

A License will be required for your house...no longer just for cars and mobile homes....Thinking about selling your house? Take a look at H.R. 2454 (Cap and Trade bill).

Beginning one year after enactment of the Cap and Trade Act, you won't be able to sell your home unless you retrofit it to comply with the energy and water efficiency standards of this "Cap & Trade" bill, passed by the House of Representatives. If it is also passed by the Senate, it will be the largest tax increase any of us has ever experienced.

This awful bill (that no one in Congress has actually read) has many more surprises in it. Probably the worst one is this: A year from now you won't be able to sell your house without some bureaucrat's OK.

To get this permission, you will have to have the energy efficiency of your home measured. Then the government will tell you what your new energy efficiency requirement is and you will be required to make modifications to your home under the retrofit provisions of this Act, to comply with the new energy and water efficiency requirements.

Then you will have to get your home measured again and get a license (called a "label" in the Act) that must be posted on your property to show what your efficiency rating is; sort of like the Energy Star efficiency rating label on your refrigerator or air conditioner. If you don't get a high enough rating, you can't sell.

Ah, and there is so much more in the House bill.

If you think that ObamaCare is a disaster, wait until you can enjoy Cap and Trade.

Sen. Joe Lieberman and Dems in the Senate and House have done so much damage by passing Obamacare, and now he's optimistic about passing Climate bill sometime.

We are broke. And Lieberman and his colleagues consider passing more useless legislation that will just bury us further in debt, and remove incentives to better ourselves financially for the the sake of our families.

Our childrens futures are being destroyed by these Senators and Congressman. Vote them out, and invoke term limits of two terms.

randyinrocklin| 4.14.10 @ 11:18AM

dont blame Lieberman, blame Graham and the other RINO's they are the enablers.

Jamie| 4.14.10 @ 2:10PM
