Tuesday morning, former Speaker Gingrich questioned Obama for his pursuit of a nuclear free world and called this week’s nuclear summit a “charade” and an “absurdity.” Questioning the practicality of a nuclear-free world, Gingrich said:

“The relative advantage to the dictator would be so enormous [if no other country had nuclear weapons]. In a world where you know people cheat.  You know the Iranians have been cheating for twenty years… You are as likely to be wrong as you are right when dealing with secret programs. The Obama language isolates Israel while it achieves nothing with Iran.”

On a broader scale, Gingrich criticized the Obama foreign policy as naive and compared it to the inter-war period of the 1920s. “What you have is the fantasy foreign policy of the 1920s when you have the Kellogg-Briand Pact, and you actually have a general disarmament conference underway in Geneva the week Hitler was sworn in. It’s hard to believe how disengaged the diplomatic world was from reality. You’re seeing a similar pattern here. This entire charade this week is an absurdity in terms of the real world.”

The former speaker also confirmed support for Afghanistan and Hamid Karzai, and suggested that Afghanistan could eventually boom as South Korea did after the Korean War. “As late as 1960, Ghana and South Korea had the same per capita income,” Gingrich pointed out while comparing it to today’s strong economy.

Gingrich also suggested that the chances of “losing a city” to a nuclear weapon is now greater today than it was during the Cold War because of the risk of nuclear terrorism from suicide bombers.

It is dishonest to compare countries like SKorea to Ghana to Afghanistan. Two are nearly landlocked with limited strategic value and SKorea was emerging from being under the yoke of Japan for several generations. Their traditions of commerce and education preceded our interventions.
Afghanistan holds their value in their gasline access to the Caspian and their proximity to China acting as a buffer for western interests. Otherwise it is an illiterate (about 90% of men and 97% of women cannot read) and backward (orthodox sunni) state that will take generations to evolve into a true domestic driver. No other Sunni-tribal state has succeeded without enormous mineral wealth and western know-how being imbedded into it. Not one.
From a nuclear standpoint, the fact that simple TNT attacks on the US are extremely rare makes the likelihood a nuke attack would occur less likely. Too many pieces would need to fall into place for a series of events leading to a nuke attack to happen. Even rogue states cannot risk the immediate and total repercussions of such an event occurring.
Plus, are we not overestimating the impact a nuke attack would have on the US or any world center?
We hit Japan twice with full tactical effect on equivalent cities like Boston and Dallas and they recovered within 5 years to become even stronger economically. My parents were told to stop and duck in the 50's, arguably the greatest decade in American ingenuity and innovation. It also galvanized Americans for the long fights of ideals.
We need a bogeyman to crystallize our resolve.
It's a risk, but Americans need to get back to not failing in the face of danger.

Obama calls together a group of leaders from around the world, sets himself-up as the all-knowing moderator, possessed with his ubiquitous and melodious tones of pseudo knowledge of the dangers that confront the world's citizens, yeah, right!!! Barack Obama's erect ego is only dwarfed by his out-of-control hubris, I just wish this charlatan/fraud would just dry-up and blow away, I'm soooo tired of this guy...

Ah, come on, Newt, fanatical dictators DON'T CHEAT. Hitler and Musselini were completely honest. What does Newt think we all are..........Harvard [Chicago street hustling] LAWYERS?????

I think what Newt was referring to was that Obama acts like he can trust the enemy. That by reducing our own stockpile of nukes, they will in kind.

And I think he also spoke truthfully about how because of the nuclear threat or ability, and because of insane suicide bombers we are definitely at a much higher level of danger than during the cold war. I also agree with what he had to say about Karzai.
Only the non-interventionists make light of the danger we have concerning terrorists, as canuki does, above.
