At least one doctor refuses to supinely accept a federal takover of American medicine.  And the Democrats are furious.

Reports the Huffington Post:

Florida urologist Jack Cassell posted a sign on his office door reading, “If you voted for Obama … seek urologic care elsewhere. Changes to your health care begin right now, not in four years.”

Cassell, a registered Republican, quickly backpedaled in an interview with the Orlando Sentinel, but said he’s perfectly happy to lose business over the sign. “I’m not turning anybody away, that would be unethical,” he told the Sentinel. “But if they read the sign and turn the other way, so be it.”

Patients who continue past the sign on Cassell’s door find a waiting room stacked with Republican pamphlets opposing health care reform, underneath a sign reading, “This is what the morons in Washington have done to your health care. Take one, read it and vote out anyone who voted for it.”

We need a few more doctors like Jack Cassell!

Dr. Cassell, I hope there are an army of other physicians that follow your lead. Congratulations on having the integrity to stand up for what you believe to be the truth!! Every one of these fools will be voted out of office. Hopefully those that replace them will repeal this unmitigated disaster and create true reform.
I would be willing to bet that there are a lot of your patients who voted for Obama and wish now, like many others, they could take their vote back!!

Weird, in a wonderful way. This is EXACTLY what I fantasized the other day every hospital, doctor, and insurance company in the country should do.

I hope it catches on.

In fact, it's the sort of thing I've been advocating on multiple blogs that everyone should do vis-a-vis Progressives in general. There are many practical difficulties with the idea and, of course, it can't be applied consistently, but it would be a great tool in the toolbox, and send a terrific message.

I admit that Ayn Rand thought of of it before me. :)

martin j smith| 4.3.10 @ 11:23AM

My sense of this Doctor is that his only problem is that he was not clever enough politically speaking. If I were a Doctor and in the mood I am about being saddled with this health care legislation ( so called ) I would have written the following: " I oppose the Democrat Helath Care Bill. " and I will vote for only those politicians who oppose this bill. If this offends you, feel free to look for services elsewhere. As far as I am concerned the medical changes start now.

If you agree with me or you are unsure about this bill feel free to take an informational flier.

Mr Smith , I respecfully disagree , I think the good Doctor stated it rather well .
It's time to stop pussyfooting around and speak our mind , fight fire with fire .

Just one small example of government laws and regulations have on real live human beings. Democrats especially, NEVER consider that laws that control businesses will change how people behave. One doctor, then two doctors, then three, on and on will refuse any petients or retire and we're left with no doctors.

Teflon93| 4.3.10 @ 12:33PM

The Constitutional protections against slavery which Republicans sought and obtained against the bloody opposition of the Democrat Party still hold in this country. Doctors may not be forced to practice their art against their will. Democrats do not have a right to the labor of others.

It is a lesson the party and its adherents have yet to learn this far from Appomattox Courthouse.

Rick V.| 4.3.10 @ 12:46PM

Teflon,
Thank you for making the slavery reference. "Irony" does not begin to describe how the party of slavery - the Democrats - has also cornered the market on the use of the charge of racism toward all those who reject their plan for universal servitude. Their plantation is far too vast to contain and employ one race; now their aim is truly multicultural, as is the plantation manager.

Very well said

Ned| 4.3.10 @ 1:42PM

Even though he is an urologist this prick doctor is definitely not a pussy.

Sorry folks, I just couldn't help it.

Not as sorry as we are. Grow up please.

Democrats have always been the party of slavery; from southern cotton plantations to abortion to ObamaCare.

Democrat party elite = slave masters.

Unfortunately, many doctors will just retire rather than deal with ever increasing federal marginalization of their profession. It would be nice if all others who remain fight the good fight like this man. I figure most good doctors over 53 or so will retire. Many from 35-52 will seek ways to be fairly compensated for their work - the best of the best will relocate and only be accessable to the very rich. Those under 35 will have a difficult decision whether to stay the course or cut their losses. But hey, according to the federal government, all you have to do is follow the rules set forth by their committees and panels for best practices...anyone can do that. Even an ACORN employee. God help us all.

victor| 4.4.10 @ 1:01PM

According to a poll that was done in Canada of 20000 doctors a year or two ago, 20% or 4000 doctors said they were going into non-patient medicine or research. 20% or 4000 doctorrs said they were planning to retire in the near future.
There are not enough pre-med students to make up the slack of retiring doctors and less working hours.
65% of PCP or GP's are women and they are not working the same long hours that men do. They work fewer hours and shorter or less days because they have children and wish to take care of them.
What are we going to do when this happens here?
More doctors are not taking Medicare or are operating on fee for service as less are depending on insurance companies.

German doctors should have refused to treat the enemies of the German state in 1938. The German doctors should have said, "Any Jewish, communist, socialist, liberal, homosexual, Gypsy, and especially 'Liberal' patients must go elsewhere."

Unfortunately those German doctors did not have the guts Dr. Jack Cassel had to identify the enemies of the German People, this forcing Hitler and the Nazis to escalate their response to those who refused to conform.

World War II and the Holocaust were mistakes on a grand order, and nobody wants to see such actions repeated. But if liberals and Obama keep threatening the liberty and freedom of the audience of FOX News, Talk Radio, and the conservative Blogosphere, they will have only themselves to blame.

Dr. Cassel and all doctors should refuse to allow liberals anywhere near their office. Let Obama cure them.

Paul Nelson| 4.4.10 @ 3:22PM

I assume that socialist would include National Socialist--NAZI

tomcj| 4.3.10 @ 8:03PM

Republicans and conservatives have a good situation, which is characterized by the phrase "Ditto" and "Mega-dittos" and other affirmations that conservatives are of one mind.

This is great thing, because conservatives are conformists to a single acceptable point of view.

All conservatives need to shun liberals and show them that they and their opinions are not welcome.

If liberals want to be accepted, they should watch FOX News and listen to Rush on the radio, and especially memorize the opinions and outrage of Glen Beck. Then repeat what they are told, and get angry about Obama.

Mega-dittos, Dr. Jack Cassel!!!!

Janice| 4.4.10 @ 10:28PM

Tom, if you'd bothered to READ the story you would have found out that Dr. Cassel said he will not refuse to care for patients, just that he wants them to know he's upset about socialized medicine.

I think you got the 'shunning' exactly backwards--republican input was shunned; there's nothing bi-partisan about the ObamaCare disaster. Nothing at all.

As always, projection is a pillar of leftist thought.

I think patients have a right to know where their doctor stands on health care. And, I think that the good doctor in question did the right thing by informing his patients. Thus, if a patients supports BHO care-- go else where. But make it clear that it is not a rejection of the patient based on politica views that is all.

victor| 4.4.10 @ 1:02PM

I would question that doctors judgement.
Not only where it concerns treatment, but also diagnosis.

rebel2| 4.4.10 @ 7:54PM

your entitled to your opinion , so troll on

victor| 4.4.10 @ 11:30PM

Hello Martin,
Classic case of crossed wires.
I read your line about supporting BHOCare and somehow got the notion that it said "Thus, if a DOCTOR supports BHO care-- go else where."
I totally support doctors letting patients know what they think and visa versa.
Doctors and patients should be comfortable with each other.

SoCon| 4.4.10 @ 11:41PM

That was funny!

Oldefarte| 4.4.10 @ 2:25PM

Reflecting upon the old adage that YOU CANNOT PUSH A STRING, the sad part is that this welfarecare/manure is now law. The time to stop it would/should have been pre 11/4/08 and before congress passed it into law. The only hope for this country is with the November elections, and, if American taxpayer-voters do not go to the polls and vote against anyone/anything connected to the current regime, they will witness the distruction of this country piece by piece [extrapolate what they've done in a year, to what they could/will do in four]!!!!!!!!!!

martin j smith| 4.5.10 @ 8:07AM

Oldfarte I agree with you. This is a referendum YES or NO on the BHO and Left agenda. As I said on a previous post I will vote for Bugs Bunny as long as he has an R- and NOT A "D" in 2010 and 2012. After that we will see.

Mark MacInnis| 4.5.10 @ 9:03AM

My admiration for the good doctor's courage of convictions. Not often that people will put their political convictions ahead of their own economic self-interest. We need more Americans of such conviction.

Consti2son| 4.5.10 @ 11:14AM

My prognosis, Dr. Cassell took the hippocratic oath
not the hippocritic oath.

Dr Tom Taylor| 4.5.10 @ 5:24PM

No..this docotr is NOT alone:

The following is a letter that I had printed in my local newspaper:

"Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad" - Euripides

With MOST polls showing Americans overwhelmingly opposing the new healthcare law, over 46% of primary physicians considering quitting if its provisions are implemented (according to a recent New England Journal of Medicine poll), Medicaid breaking state and county budgets, both Social Security and Medicare projected to go bankrupt in the not too far future, and private sector job creation already being crushed under the weight of government taxation, spending and regulations, what does our Democrat controlled Congress do?

It creates a massive new trillion dollar entitlement program!

Our national debt, accumulated over the past 234 years, is projected to DOUBLE over the next 5 years and TRIPLE over the next ten..under the projected spending of the Obama adminstration.

This isn't just unsustainable; it irresponsible to the point of insanity!

I'm one doctor who isn't planning to stick around and watch the slow destruction of one the best health care sytems in the world.

The day after the bill passed, I spent 2 hours with my financial advisor discussing early retirement.

God help all of us as we grow older and sicker; the Nanny state certainly won't!

Thomas F. Taylor, MD

Susan| 4.6.10 @ 12:57AM

I live amongst several physicians in my neighborhood. Prior to the passing of the healthcare bill, they have told me that the morale of the doctors at our local hospital is one of "doom and gloom". Just like you, many have said that they too are planning early retirement. My personal physician told me that he will look for a job doing something else. The best healthcare system in the world is being destroyed by the powers of the current administration.

Dr Tom Taylor| 4.5.10 @ 5:26PM

Pardon the typos.

My typing is even worse than my handwriting.
