The Spectacle Blog

I see that Frank Rich, Derrick Jackson, and Charles Blow all wrote basically the same column as Colbert King. I posted on King this weekend. A friend writes, “At this rate, the NYT/Boston Globe will be able to lay three of them off and pay the Post a syndicate fee for King.”

In reality, this kind of commentary is nothing new. We see it every time conservatives have any political momentum whatsoever. The idea is that by shouting “racist,” these liberal columnists can make their opponents shut up. But this is a very angry and polarized political climate. By racializing issues that are not inherently racial in nature, they are fanning the flames of the very hatred they claim to oppose. It is a dangerous and ugly game. It is one that, for the good of the country, shouldn’t be played.

Mr. Antle,

Are you denying that SOME of the "momentum" is fueled by racial anxiety or outright racism?

To believe that racism plays no part in this "momentum" would require an amazing ability to hide oneself from the truth.

People spitting on black Congressman and calling them racist names? This is not racism?

I assure you, the people doing these things were NOT liberals.

You should peruse the findings of recent studies by the SPLC: the enrollments in hate groups -- neo Nazi, white supremacist, nativisits (always racists), militia groups -- have exploded, and there is a great deal of co-belligerency developing among these groups AND with the Tea Party movment.

To be fair, some Republican leaders and some leaders of the Tea Party movement have acted responsibly and urged their followers to protest peacefully and discouraged the use of racist language. But the fact that they NEED to should tell us something.

What many on the right are JUSTLY afraid of is that conservatism itself may become tainted by the racist programs of some of its fringe elements. I think this would be unfortunate, but conservatives themselves have it in their power to prevent this from happening. THEY must continually denounce those who breach civil decorum, or those who call for violence, or those who characterize a political debate as a hunting expedition or something which calls for their followers to "reload." This is not civil debate, nor is it reassuring to those of us who look for worthy opponents on the right.

Nick| 3.29.10 @ 1:26PM

It has been widely reported that liberal members of the democrat party have viciously attacked members of the Tea Party movement and used language that is inappropriate.

This weekend, it was reported, Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), a well known racist, spat on a Tea Party activist. His racist colleague, Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), was heard calling Tea Partiers the "H" word (rhymes with "tonky".) Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY, and well-known racist) was seen picking the pockets of the activists.

Lickspittles in the MSM, like Chris Matthews, were quick to point out that the liberals were provoked by the Tea Partiers by their use of words like "target" and "reload." Matthews had to be given IV's, as he dehydrated himself with his saliva-scattering tirade.

-NNS wire service

These racist attacks, by liberal democrats, must stop, before someone really gets hurt!

W. James Antle III | 3.29.10 @ 1:34PM

The SPLC is a fraudulent organization that exists to inflate the profile of "hate groups" -- some legitimate but largely irrelevant hate groups, some more accurately described as groups that the SPLC hates -- in order to bamboozle people like yourself out of their money. Their tactics have been widely criticized and condemned by civil rights organizations that do real civil rights work.

I actually have an article coming out about the SPLC in another publication. But you don't have to take my word for it. There have been exposes on the SPLC in the Nation, Harper's, the Montgomery Advertiser -- all progressive outlets. The SPLC has more than its share of liberal critics.

Do I think racists on the right exist? Sure. In fact, I know them to exist. But anyone who lived through the Clinton years knows that the supposed racial element of opposition to Obama is inflated beyond belief. Unless you take Toni Morrison's description of Clinton as the "first black president" literally.

Liberal Reader| 3.29.10 @ 3:49PM

Mr Antle,

I'm not prepared to defend the SPLC (I have not read much about them); however, my point did not depend upon the claims of their recent study.

I have merely to look at reports -- now widely circulating -- of racist slogans and signs among the Tea Partiers and the awful events last week involving people spitting on a member of Congress and calling others foul names.

I know that these activities do not characterize Tea Partiers generally: I have a few Tea Partiers and Tea Party sympathizers in my own family, and I know they are not racists.

There is, however, historically, an area of overlap between populist movements (and this includes, of course, more leftist movements in the 30s) and white nationalism or racism. I do not need the SPLC to teach me this; it is well-attested by historians.

Populism -- and this is why the founders were largely uncomfortable with strains of populism -- invites scape-goating and other forms of irrational hate mongering. I think we all know this.

Conservative leaders have a duty to rein in excessive and inflammatory rhetoric, as well as any calls for violence or menacing, and they would perhaps do well to remember that the tradition of conservatism is hardly characterized by pitchfork-weilding. Sobriety, reason, caution, and a certain epitemological humility are the best traits of conservatism at work in our culture.

Nick| 3.29.10 @ 4:02PM

Frothy Reader,

Didn't you falsely claim that Republicans have NEVER proposed an amendment to ban abortions?

Also, where were you for 8 years, hypocrite?

http://www.binscorner.com/page.....sts-i.html

W. James Antle III | 3.29.10 @ 4:15PM

If the columns in question had merely condemned confirmed racist remarks, actions, and signs at Tea Party events and called on conservative leaders to do the same, I would not have criticized them. I would have agreed with them.

Instead these columnists argued that racial hatred was the real motivation for the broad-based opposition to the agenda being pursued by the president and his party. King in particular used the whiteness of the crowds as his evidence for their racism.

I contend that these kinds of arguments are merely a different form of scapegoating and will do as much to promote racism and white nationalism as any variety of populism.

Margie| 3.29.10 @ 5:00PM

Well said. Bravo!

Liberal Reader| 3.29.10 @ 5:39PM

Fair enough, Mr. Antle.

You are one of many who make your case well and in the best American tradition. I'm more concerned about the racism that has been showing itself in public in the past year or so than you are, but that's not to say you or any of your friends are racist. I'm content to agree to disagree.

Liberal moron,
If you don't know much about the SPLC why are you quoting them. I know a bunch of liberals who have no use for blacks so your argument is nothing more than standard KOS jibberish.

Red Phillips | 3.29.10 @ 1:52PM

Good grief. I can't believe LR didn't have good enough sense to avoid citing the SPLC. Citing the SPLC immediately blows up the credibility of an argument. It is like citing the Weekly World News if you are trying to prove aliens exist.

Nick| 3.29.10 @ 2:18PM

Mr. Phillips,

You are so right.

It would be like citing Glen Greenwald. Madness, I say!

Margie| 3.29.10 @ 2:46PM

Zing!

Red Phillips | 3.29.10 @ 2:59PM

The SPLC is a bunch of shysters playing PC gotcha. Their "analysis" is useless. Glen Greenwald is a smart and honest liberal, often critical of his own side. Greenwald can have interesting things to say, especially for us non-interventionists. The SPLC never does.

victor| 3.29.10 @ 8:10PM

Better Dead Than Red Phillips:
"Glen Greenwald is a smart and honest liberal,"

Smart? Honest? Liberal?

Would that be a redundant oxymoron?
In triplicate?

And if you are what you say you are, why would you cite a Liberal to bolster your case?

Red Phillips | 3.29.10 @ 11:38PM

I don't think I have cited Greenwald although I could be wrong. Toddard does on occasion. I believe Nick was taking a general swipe at folks like Toddard and I. But for the record, a liberal can utter the truth. If a liberal says the sky is blue, that's true. But a non-interventionist would cite Greenwald on the War because we would agree with him on the War more than we would interventionist "conservatives." That doesn't make us liberals. This shouldn't be that hard to understand.

SoCon| 3.30.10 @ 12:07AM

But, mostly, I'm a lie detector. I can spot garbage easily.

And, Glenn Greenwald CLAIMS to be a "constitutional law scholar", by the way. He unsuccessfully defended neo-nazi Matt Hale on free-speech grounds. Hale was later convicted of solicitation of murder.

Sam| 3.29.10 @ 4:12PM

Oh, hold the phone! Now I remember. Now I've come back to my senses.

The concentration camps Obama is constructing are for conservative patriots and their families. That's right.

Now it's the same name same game by the Dem's Sad, the news media just goes along with this. We conservatives are on to it. WE won' t be played again , and have no energy for games. Yes I am denying that, other than unproven allegations I have heard nothing racist except from Dan Rather joking about watermelons. I would say Rather is pretty liberal too so be careful what you are "assuring" us.

Not liking a $3 trillion piece of legislation that will destroy our economy and healthcare system does not make us racist. I suppose if Hillary was in office we would be sexist?

The race card just exposes you as someone incapable of defending a position. I gotta give you a heads up that you sound kind of stupid if this is all you can say.

When Glenn Beck called Obama a racist and said he hates white people, that was racism.
How many of his minions agreed? Probably more than a few.
The point is, you cannot state that racism is not involved in the opposition to the President for anyone besides yourself.

rspock| 3.29.10 @ 4:29PM

"When Glenn Beck called Obama a racist and said he hates white people, that was racism."

No it isn't. Clearly you don't know what racism actually is. For an example of real racism see Rev Wright - Pres Obama's pastor for 20+ years. Or how about Prof Gates, a friend of Obamas for ? years. If Glenn Beck associated with these sorts of racists, then you would be justified, otherwise - you're just engaging in the typical Liberal game of redefining terms to suit your agenda.

Roger| 3.29.10 @ 5:09PM

Prof. Gates; there's nothing to suggest he is racist.
As for the sorts of racists Beck associates with, you'll find them in his audience cheering.

Duh!

The TRUTH| 3.29.10 @ 5:21PM

A perfect point?
Because if so then mine was spot on.
My point is, there are morons on both sides saying hateful things, and you cannot assume that fringe elements speak for the majority. You seem to be confused on that point. So confused that you lumped me in with 'liberals like me' as if I could be painted with that same brush.
I did not take up for one side or the other, but merely pointed out the futility of saying something childish along the lines of 'they did it too'.
If you want to win the hearts and minds of the majority, you will not accomplish that by belittling the other side, name calling and the like. You will have to come up with sound policy ideas that appeal on the basis of logic, 'liberals are bad, so any of their ideas are too.' will not sway intelligent independents.
That's why many Americans are turning away from the party of NO ideas. Even when their ideas are included in legislation, (like the 200 R amendments included in the health insurance reform bill) they still vote against them. That's just opposition for the sake of opposition, and party loyalty over their constituents' best interests.
That will not win others to your cause, and only cause some of us fence sitters to lean left. Wait, that may make me a (shudder) liberal.
That's okay. Jesus was a liberal too.

Jeremiah| 3.29.10 @ 6:30PM

Just pointing out the truth, troll--a precious quality you morons don't understand.

We'll see which party Americans choose on November 2, clown--it won't be your democrat
party of lies, backroom deals with dirty cronies and corruption.

Unlike you pro-abortion monsters, Jesus loved babies and espoused love; liberals like you have nothing in common with the Lord.

Nice try, though.

Jim Hlavac | 3.29.10 @ 5:52PM

I'm sure that if someone used the "n" word, (why so fearsome is it it can only be alluded to by mere citizens,) were most likely congratulating the congressman by merely quoting any Rap Music star, like in "homey, boy, niggah," and so forth, that spews daily across the airwaves. From where else would we learn this word and it's rather wide usage? Now, since the liberals are so sure we are morons and worse, I'm sure they might concede to the idea that we morons were merely using a word bandied about with indelicate frequency to show "we're with you man." After all, we are told that we really will love what the congressman wrought, or even do so now, but are too stupid to give voice to our thanks. So some guy, um, perhaps, maybe, gave a shout out, (so presidential these days,) upon realization that the hallowed genius of the congressman was in their midst and the genius did rub off, so the moron saw the light -and lo, said, um, "You go niggah! Yah! Free the people!" Or some such.

Now, on the other hand, to be called a racist and compared to a Nazi, and to be called stupid and un-American, well, that does grate "non-color people" -- you know, we transparent folks, who have, apparently, been excluded from "people of color" for we are, I'm guessing here, clear as glass, even, thus, invisible. For isn't the absence of color invisibility? Or nothingness? Or is there some word I don't know for "not a person of color"?

In other words, lib read, go to the dickens!
Or is that just too harsh?

Let's stop calling it racism and start calling it what it really is. Hate-ism.

Sarah Palin's talk of reloading and posting pictures of states with crosshairs is hateful and disturbing. Can you discuss that? If someone talked of reloading after I acted on an idea, and then posted a picture of my house with crosshairs over it, I would call them a cyber bully and call the police. I am not kidding. I would FEAR FOR MY LIFE. Actions start as words, and she is absolutely incendiary and irresponsible. And, she's a leader in the tea party movement. As far as I can tell over here where I sit just left of center, she's a leader in the Republican party. Even John McCain thought that "reloading" and cross-hairs was an acceptable political message.

People are looking to Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck for leadership, and these people are fear mongerers. They say it's OK to be afraid. But, people listen to them, and I can never identify with a group who looks to fear mongerers as their leaders and their prophets.

I'm trying to look at both sides. I'm trying to understand the dissatisfaction and the worst case scenario of the new healthcare law. But, when I look at your side, I see Sarah Palin and I see Glenn Beck. And, they are both morally corrupt. Why are they your standard bearers when they are so hateful??

But, I don't represent a state so I used my house to describe how I would feel if I were a target of her cyberbullying. I'm not a liar. Sarah Palin is a liar. Death Panel as far as I can tell was a lie.

So, I guess I've simply come to wrong place. I'm not going to understand this side here because there's no conversation, only name calling. Nice.

Nick| 3.29.10 @ 2:30PM

You begin your comments by calling names, and then have the nerve to COMPLAIN about others calling you names!

Hypocrite!

Physician, heal thyself.

Don't like to be called names, then don't do it yourself.

Nick, just another useless troll trying to hijack the thread. Ignore the moron.

Hey, good post @ 1:26.

SoCon,

Good point. We've slapped Tricia around enough.

And, thanks for the compliment.
Just fighting fire with fire.

SoCon| 3.29.10 @ 2:31PM

But you're lying about Sarah, as you liberals always lie--there are no cross-hairs on her photos. You're lying again--there is no cyber-bullying, liar.

You're lying about 'death panels' too; they do exist in ObamaCare--it's a metaphor for rationing of care. Do you understand nuance, troll? Guess not.
You need to leave now, no one invited you and your lies, and we don't suffer lying fools like you gladly. Just ask Liberal Screeder.

Slammin Sammy| 3.29.10 @ 5:27PM

Look at Sarahs' Facebook entry; the one with the map and cross hairs on it. It's right there.

You need to be 'death paneled'.

How can you tell when a liberal is lying?
Its lips are moving.

Jeremiah,

How do you know when Bubba 'the pervert' Clinton is lying?
See if he is breathing.

Why would any rational person be looking to Glenn Beck for leadership??? The we shouldn't use the terms, battleground states, fighting for our policitcal lives, hatchett jobs/pieces, etc. If we were really to speak about offensive terms. The connotation of "blue" state can have some disturbing meanings.

Sarah Palin is as much a standard bearer for the conservatives as Karl Marx is for the liberals...oops that may be a lot more accurate than I was hoping for.

rspock| 3.29.10 @ 4:34PM

"Sarah Palin's talk of reloading and posting pictures of states with crosshairs is hateful and disturbing."

No it isn't. It's just convenient for you to claim it is, since it reinforces the latest "Progressive" propaganda meme.

Can you discuss that? If someone talked of reloading after I acted on an idea, and then posted a picture of my house with crosshairs over it, I would call them a cyber bully and call the police. "

And they would tell you you have no basis for complaint and probably arrest you for filing a frivolous complaint.

Jim Hlavac | 3.29.10 @ 5:58PM

Oh, geez, another wacko, who I suppose can't reload the film in her camera, or reload a program on her computer, or reload the clothes in her dryer or washer. Nor put a target date on the calender for her vacation, or even target a politician for opposition in the voting booth. So now words like "reload" and "target" are not to be used. How long is the list of banned words now? Why isn't there a liberal No-use-Dictionary, so we might know the words that do still their beating hearts? Or is that too threatening Trish?

One wonders how the damsel drives past the big red box store called Target.

Is there no end to the infantile moronic-ness?

Of course whites should be angry. They should be seething with violent rage at the fact that they have lost their country to an tidal wave of unassimilable non-white immigrants as a result of the disastrous 1965 immigration act. The white descendants of the founders and the pioneers are being forced to become a minority in their own country without ever having been asked if this is what they want. This suicidal policy is bound to cause explosive racial conflict. The entire history of the human race is filled with bitter ethnic wars over resource competition. All immigration must be halted now in order to preserve some semblance of peace. Having read some of your work at Vdare.com, I realize that you are aware of this. However, you never mention this most important of issues at AmSpec. Why the gag rule?

SoCon| 3.29.10 @ 2:22PM

Enoch--your name should be EUNUCH; you should be gagged.

This is not about color or race, this is about our loss of liberty, and you know it.

Enoch Powell Was Right| 3.29.10 @ 2:31PM

Are you in favor of the U.S. becoming a white minority country? Do you think that the American people ought to be allowed to decide their fate for themselves? We have a test case - California. In 1965, California, like the rest of the US, was approximately 90% white, and a working man's paradise. Now it is a white minority 3rd world failed state, in need of perpetual bailouts from the federal government. Do you want the rest of America to share that fate? It is not conservative to support LBJ's sick immigration policy.

SoCon| 3.29.10 @ 2:44PM

Troll. I support LEGAL immigration, not illegal immigration--don't you? I'm concerned about our national security, aren't you? Don't you think we are a sovereign nation and as such should have the right to secure our borders?
No? If not, why not?

What's YOUR agenda?

You're a caricature of a Conservative and you're a joke, liberal fool. We're upset because your liberal policies are destroying our country, not because of other people's skin color.

Enoch Powell Was Right| 3.29.10 @ 3:10PM

Demography is destiny. Non-whites overwhelmingly vote for liberal democrats. Nixon and Reagan Both won California twice; now no Republican presidential candidate will ever win it again. AmSpec is a joke. It is not really conservative. Mr Antle also writes for Vdare.com, which is a real conservative website. Are you conservative? Do you support affirmative action for non-whites? Do you support LBJ's and Ted Kennedy's policies of mass immigration of non-whites in order to create a permanent liberal majority? Then you are not a conservative. Read Vdare, and wake up.

SoCon| 3.29.10 @ 4:37PM

Conservatism is not hate and hatred is never the answer; but I do support secure borders and NO ILLEGAL immigration.

I don't know if you're a troll pretending to be a Conservative or just a bigot, but, either way, you're a loser. No thanks.

Enoch Powell Was Right| 3.29.10 @ 4:48PM

The past four decades of legal immigration from the third world has destroyed America. Wanting America to retain a white majority does not make somebody a bigot. And mindlessly cheerleading for the marxist policy of transforming America into a 3rd world dictatorship through massive "legal" non-white immigration definitely does not make you a conservative. Please don't resort to silly name calling, and please do read Vdare.com. I'm sure Mr Antle would agree.

SoCon| 3.29.10 @ 4:53PM

Rhe past four decades of ILLEGAL immigration have destroyed America. But, I know that legal immigration is tilted toward the third world, too.

I am an immigration restrictionist. I don't think I've been very quiet about that fact, here or elsewhere.

http://spectator.org/archives/.....mmigration

http://spectator.org/archives/.....bs-america

But here's where we part company: Like Vanderbilt Professor Carol Swain, preventing a politically viable white nationalism in this country is one of the reasons I support restriction. I oppose all forms of racial separatism in the United States.

Enoch Powell Was Right| 3.29.10 @ 6:21PM

Thanks for the reply, Mr. Antle. Like you, I believe that immigration restriction will lessen racial tension. Diversity is not strength; in fact, a mountain of evidence suggests that increased diversity leads to an decrease in trust among members of all races. Readers can google Harvard Prof. Robert Putnam's work for example.

SoCon| 3.29.10 @ 6:51PM

You don't sound so wild-eyed now;
why is that Enoch?

Initially, you came off nutzoid and I became suspicious--you sounded a little Aryan Nation and I wasn't sure if you were setting us up. Trolls pull that cr*p all of the time.

I know that liberals use immigration to control American society and figuring out ways to stop them is paramount, but your aggressive tone was off-putting.

Becky| 3.29.10 @ 2:28PM

What exactly is hate-ism? From the commenter it sounds like a predisposed acute reaction to not wanting to hear an opposing view.

I assure you that the portion of tea party activists that understand the figurativeness of Palin's speeches are larger than those of other current mass movements. Please check out the latest WTO meetings and note the difference in true violent acts verses imagined ones. Ever hear of environmental terrorism?

When Palin says reload, it is comparable to Hillary's reset button, only you know that. As an admitted left of center person you don't want to honestly admit it.

The newscasters also understand the difference in figurative and literal speech also, but the sad fact is they choose to explain it to you in a way that makes you afraid.

SoCon| 3.29.10 @ 2:50PM

The liberals know we aren't haters; as usual, they're using inflammatory language to get us to shut up.

They are losing the debate in the country right now and they are scrambling to get control--that's why they want us to sit down and shut up.

They're trying to redefine the debate by setting a false premise based on hate that doesn't exist.

Not this time.

Enoch Powell Was Right| 3.29.10 @ 3:18PM

They don't have to win "the debate." Did you actually read the pieces Mr. Antle is referring to? Charles Blow's column is called "You can't have your country back!" Wanna know why? Because mass immigration is transforming America into a white minority country, which means permanent minority status for conservatives and Republicans. Read the piece. Also, if you can stomach it, read Frank Rich's hateful anti-white screed. To the left, it is all about race - and if all immigration (legal and illegal) is not stopped pronto, there will soon be no America left - to say nothing of "conservatism."

SoCon| 3.29.10 @ 4:40PM

I know that liberals are full of hate--I've read their crap; but I won't let them turn me into a hater, too!

Enoch Powell Was Right| 3.29.10 @ 4:52PM

No, you can feel all morally superior when you are part of a tiny minority being ruled by non-whites with an extreme left wing agenda. I'm sure it will be a comfort to you as you live out your years in what used to be America.

SoCon| 3.29.10 @ 4:56PM

What do you suggest we do? You seem to have all the answers--spit them out.

SoCon| 3.29.10 @ 5:09PM

Enoch?

Enoch Powell Was Right| 3.29.10 @ 5:20PM

I just suggest you go to a real conservative website like Vdare.com. Jim Antle occasionally writes there, along with Steve Sailer, who is probably the best conservative opinion writer in America. Sailer also has his own blog - iSteve.blogspot.com, which I can highly recommend. The traditional conservative mags, like National Review or AmSpec are pretty pathetic anymore. Issue number 1 for conservatives has got to be an immigration moratorium, otherwise the American nation will soon be overwhelmed by aliens and cease to be the nation that we love, and that loves freedom.

Filmer| 3.29.10 @ 5:20PM

"What do you suggest we do?"

I know you didn't ask me, but here goes anyway. We must have a moratorium on all LEGAL immigration. We must deport as many illegals as possible. We should build a wall. And we should end birthright citizenship.

The distinction that many conservatives have made between legal and illegal immigration, as if it is only a matter of law and order, has been very unhelpful. Legal immigration is arguably more of a problem than illegal immigration because legal immigrants can potentially become citizens and vote (inevitably for Democrats). Illegals can't unless we amnesty them.

Rick| 3.29.10 @ 5:29PM

Legal immigration is arguably more of a problem than illegal immigration because legal immigrants can potentially become citizens and vote

If only the American Indian had you to represent their cause.

"We see it every time conservatives have any political momentum whatsoever. The idea is that by shouting "racist," these liberal columnists can make their opponents shut up."

This is exactly why it is more important for conservatives to call out liberal for their Cultural Marxist PC grandstanding of this type than it is for us to jump on the bandwagon of condemning fellow conservatives for every perceived transgression from right think. In the current political climate, ideological anti-racism is a much bigger problem than is racism.

The Tea Party phenomenon is a perfect example. That Tea Party protestors are overwhelmingly White is a demonstrable fact that is easily observed by all. The desperate attempts by some Tea Partiers to identify Black or Hispanic protestors among their ranks only produce the exceptions that prove the rule. Whether we like it or not, the constituency for limited government is almost entirely White. Not that all or even most Whites favor limited government (I wish), but that those who do are almost all White. This is a fact. This should be a potentially value neutral fact. Like a disproportionate amount of people who consume Tecate beer are Mexican. But it is a fact that the protestors ignore or attempt to wish away at their own peril. (For example, not openly realizing the problem that demographic change brought on by mass immigration [LEGAL and illegal] presents for their movement and goals.)

But the Whiteness of the crowd, again a potentially value neutral observation, is held against it by the likes of King and Rich and the rest of their PC henchmen. Its very Whiteness alone condemns it. Look at all those White people without the magic dust of diversity. They must be up to no good. They must have malevolent intentions. They are probably … GASP … evil racists. But no one would ever condemn a pro-immigration rally for being monolithically Hispanic. Or a civil rights march for being overwhelmingly Black.

This IS the Cultural Marxist double standard. Everyone else gets to play the game of ethnic self interest, but if Whites do it it is the worst of all possible sins. Well screw that. The demonstrably true “charge” that the Tea Partiers are almost all White should be greeted with a big “Yeah. What about it?” That the constituency for limited government and preserving the vision of the Founders is White should mean nothing more than that Blacks and Hispanics need to drop their support for the nanny state and get on board limited government with us White folk.

ncatty| 3.29.10 @ 3:20PM

An excellent post! It is the difference between correlation and causation.

Enoch Powell Was Right| 3.29.10 @ 3:23PM

Agree 100%. Frank Rich's piece was grotesque; he positively gloats over the fact that America will soon be a white minority country, where multiculti socialists can impose their despicable agenda on us with only token opposition.

SoCon| 3.29.10 @ 4:41PM

And you want a bloodbath. What good will that do?

Filmer| 3.29.10 @ 5:01PM

This is exactly the Cultural Marxist double standard I was talking about. It is perfectly OK for PC multicult libs like Rich to dance on the grave of the white man by celebrating our pending minority status (2042 or 2050 take your pick). There is even a multicult website called Imagine2050 that celebrates this. But Heaven forbid a White person object to becoming a minority and he is a racist hater. Why would any sane White person put up with this nonsense?

SoCon| 3.29.10 @ 5:06PM

I agree with you but I don't know how to fix it. Do you?

Enoch Powell Was Right| 3.29.10 @ 5:28PM

A moratorium on ALL immigration. It's the only fair solution. At least that gives all of us already here a decent chance to learn how to live together in harmony. Plus, we have to dismantle the racial spoils system of affirmative action, which is a recipe for continual racial conflict.

SoCon| 3.29.10 @ 6:55PM

How do we go about a moratorium without instigating violence?
We don't have the numbers.

Will President Obama take responsibility for the death threat against Cantor? Will the Democrats apologize?

martin j smith| 3.29.10 @ 4:28PM

Two allegations were made by Democrats without proof. There is no proof. Liberal reader is spewing the BHO line period. Do not spend a lot time trying to "reason" with s/he or it.

The goals in all this is to change the subject that is it. Look at the thuggish treatment of CEOs who0 were summoned before waxman because they provided legally required ( apparently ) information in regards to their financial status due to the recently past Health care legislation.
I hope that there might be case for a libel suite against the Democrat Party or individuals to pass off claims of behavior that are false. This in itself is violence.

Patriot| 3.29.10 @ 4:58PM

I agree with you about changing the subject--liberals always seek to distract. Sneaky b*stards.

martin j smith| 3.29.10 @ 4:32PM

Suppose you found out that Liberal Reader was not a human being at all but a machine--a computer. Would you respond to it in this case ? Liberal Reader like other trolls state the Party Line. And, that is what they do. There is absolutely no room in their thought processes to "hear" any other view. Thus, it is the reason why instead of debating the merits of what is actually in the HC bill they go another route. Bear this in mind.

Patriot| 3.29.10 @ 4:49PM

You're wrong, Martin; for too long Conservatives have not engaged our adversaries and we are losing in the arena of public discourse because of it.

It's good for us to argue and debate with trolls, it helps us formulate our beliefs and what is important to us. I won't cede the debate to the liberals any more--I will push back. It also gives me confidence to see what other conservatives say and helps me keep my hopes up.

Rick| 3.29.10 @ 5:37PM

Liberal Reader like other trolls state the Party Line. And, that is what they do. There is absolutely no room in their thought processes to "hear" any other view.

I agree 100% Maybe 110%
The problem is, these 'party liners' inhabit both parties, so you get parrots on both sides, mouthing what their heroes said on MSNBC or FOX.
There are plenty of conservatrolls too, on this site and others. You have to learn to recognize the sincere ones and ignore the rest.
Some people come just to make 'clever' (to them and their fellow followers) remarks and have nothing of substance to say. They are fun to play with, but ultimately a waste of your time. I enjoy a good debate, but will call you out when you make stuff up or are simply a parroting moron.
I think extremists on both sides miss a big point; both sides are being played against each other, just as blacks and whites, rich and poor are divided in this country.
Divide and conquer.

Liberal Reader| 3.29.10 @ 5:42PM

Rick,

With all due respect, if you claim I do nothing but repeat the "party line" (whatever that is), you don't know what "the party line" IS and you haven't read many of my posts.

Victor,

Listen you supercilious hick. I did not fall silent.

This is a thread on the internet, not a town hall meeting. Just because someone doesn't wait around for you to figure out how to type a few sentences of hackneyed English does not mean they've "fallen silent."

I NEVER fall silent. As to your brilliant history lesson on the Democratic party, I've corrected that moronic argument several times here.

You can -- with ardent labor -- correct your own ignorance, however.

Begin at the LIBRARY, not wikipedia, and get yourself some good books on the political events of the 1950s and 60s in this country. THERE you will read about how the Republicans appropriated the white racist vote from the Democrats, and how the Democrats became THE PARTY OF CIVIL RIGHTS LEGISLATION, which effectively ENDED Jim Crow and the racist regimes prevailing in the south.

victor| 3.29.10 @ 11:24PM

All opposed by the Democrats:

13th Amendment to abolish slavery.
14th Amendment to give citizenship to all African Americans born in the United States
15th Amendment to give Blacks the right to vote.

Civil Rights Act 1866
Reconstruction Act of 1867
Freedman Bureau Extension Act of 1866
Enforcement Act of 1870
Force Act of 1871
Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871
Civil Rights Act of 1875
Civil Rights Act of 1957
Civil Rights Act of 1960

KKK was started by democrats.
Tillman Act to restrict money from corporations that tended to be Republican who were favorable to assisting black people.
Democrats were against Truman integrating the Armed Forces and giving them Civil Rights.

1956 Southern Manifesto signed by 99 democrats from the south to overturn the Supreme Court 1954 ruling Brown v. Board of Education,

1964 Civil Rights Act was passed by 63% of democrats while 80% of republicans passed it.

1965 Voting Rights Acts was passed by 78% of democrats while 88% of republicans passed it.

"and how the Democrats became THE PARTY OF CIVIL RIGHTS LEGISLATION, which effectively ENDED Jim Crow and the racist regimes prevailing in the south."

The Democrats started Jim Crow, lynched blacks who stood up to them, opposed Civil Rights in 1948, 1956 and would not have passed those two laws without the Republicans.

victor| 3.29.10 @ 11:29PM

Oh, I forgot about Reconstruction, but that is for another day.

Republicans started out by abolishing slavery, giving not only black people the vote, but women as well.

Listen pal, I lived through those days and I know what went on.
Your sainted democrats don't have clean skirts.
You are the one who needs to read.
You certainly live up to your chosen name.

SoCon| 3.29.10 @ 11:32PM

Maybe YOU should visit your local library and brush up on your history, Screeder.

Civil Rights legislation couldn't have passed without Republican Everett Dirksen, right, Screeder? Dirksen and those other Republicans who voted to pass the bill.

You know, Dirksen, the Republican from Illinois who was able to shut down SENATOR ROBERT BYRD'S (DEMOCRAT FROM W.V. FORMER KKK GRAND KLEAGLE/RECRUITER STILL SERVING TODAY) filibuster so the legislation could pass? Remember?

Yeah, you democrats created slavery, lynchings and Jim Crow laws and WE REPUBLICANS had to fight you democrats to pass Civil Rights legislation. We're always fighting against you racist democrats.

Imagine that! No wonder you feel so guilty--you racist! Your white hood must haunt your dreams.

Nick| 3.29.10 @ 11:49PM

He could have saved a lot of typing by just calling you a douchebag and moving on.

Paleoconservative| 3.29.10 @ 6:30PM

It obviously is wrong for one race to wish to do physical harm to another race. And it is obviously impolite for one race to use unpleasant racial epithets toward another race.

But this is not what is usually meant by "racism." More often than not, "racism" is used to attack ethnocentrism - the desire of people to be with others of their own kind. This is odd, considering that ethnocentrism is completely natural and probably sociobiological (cf. kin selection theory, ethnic nepotism, etc.). And nearly every group in the world - every group except one - is openly ethnocentric. Only one group has been bullied into forsaking this natural desire -- and ironically it is this one very group* that is most often accused of being "racist."

Thus it's no coincidence that Cultural Marxists in the 1930s largely popularized the term "racism" as a means to undermine the West.

I guess it depends on when you grew up, Paleo.

I was taught that "racism" meant that someone thought that their race was superior than someone elses.

But, the "us vs. them" nature of humanity is a consequence, or curse, of original sin. It goes back almost to the begining.

It starts with the family, moves on to the tribal level, and extends to the national.

I remember talking with one of those Lib Reader types who claimed the police were blowing it out of proportion.
Heck, they said, he was driving a Hyundai. No way could it go over a 100.
Showed him a Car and Driver that said top speed for that model was 120MPH.
Shut that guy right up.

Margie| 3.29.10 @ 11:41PM

SoCon,
I share in your exact thoughts, please do not apologize. I'd say that there is nothing so despicable as when another human being chooses to use reverse accusations of hate or racism against another human being. Liberal Liar Reader is going to pay dearly for this unless he repents and he knows it. Marc Jeric's post, below says it all.

victor| 3.29.10 @ 11:00PM

Hey Reader,
That "pillar of society" was speeding through residential neighborhoods at 115MPH.
Guess it wouldn't have bothered you if Rodney rode over some 5 or 6 year old, would it?
He deserved what he got.
Figures that you would be sticking up for him, eh?
Probably have the same feeling for OJ.

Extremely Extreme Extremist| 3.29.10 @ 8:59PM

The words "race" and "racist" are most often (overwhelmingly, in fact) used today not to signify one's heritage, skin color, or theory about the superiority/inferiority of same, but rather to signify one's political prescriptions regarding them. This is why, for instance, black conservatives are read out of the Negro race by leftists whenever talk turns to "race." It's because the lefties aren't actually talking about Negroes when they're talking about blacks; they're talking about dark-skinned supporters and allies of the leftist worldview. When they say that such-and-such will be good for blacks, what they mean is not that it will be good for all, including Clarence Thomas and Michael Steele, but only those within that legion of indentured house servants which populates the Democratic Party (typically by maintaining them firmly and forever in that role).

Conversely, the word "racist" is used to signify one who rejects leftist policy prescriptions vis a vis the left's Negro captives. To reject Affirmative Action is, for the lefty, by definition to be racist, even if one's spouse happens to be black...or even oneself! Clarence Thomas is a racist to the left because he rejects those policies which serve to keep the leftists' black constituency of dependents down on the plantation. The Reverend Wright, however, is not and can never be, because no matter the level or source of his disdain for white people, it is not white people who make up that constituency. The left might concede that Wright's hatred is unbecoming and should have a name, but they are comically unable to label it "racism" because that name has been commandeered for another use.

So the bottom line is, whenever you hear the words "race" or "racism" used by the MSM or leftist politicos, don't think of the Negro race or of all dark-skinned people in the aggregate. Think of that particular group I just mentioned if you wish to understand what's really being said.

Paleoconservative| 3.29.10 @ 10:12PM

As I write above, it obviously is wrong for one race to wish to do physical harm to another race.

Only one group has been bullied into forsaking this natural desire -- and ironically it is this one very group (Europeans / European Americans) that is most often accused of being "racist."

Thus it's no coincidence that Cultural Marxists in the 1930s largely popularized the term "racism" as a means to undermine the West.

Liberal Reader| 3.29.10 @ 10:48PM

Paleo --

Your wrong.

In the 1940s hundreds of thousands of young American men DIED fighting Hitler in Europe.

Hitler had instituted a blatantly RACIST government that scapegoated Jews and other ethnic groups, much in the same way people in the South scapegoated blacks for more than a century after slavery was repealed.

Talking about "racism" was common among liberals, conservatives, socialists, and many other people in the 1930s, too, and by the way -- the term "Cultural Marxist" is hopelessly botched. I think you probably are referring to intellectuals who wished to distinguish themselves from "vulgar Marxists," but the idea of "racism" had adherents and detractors quite apart from the socialist movement.

Filmer| 3.29.10 @ 11:15PM

Liberal Reader, perhaps you should look up the word Cultural Marxist. It is a very specific word with a very specific meaning. It has its origins in the Frankfurt School (look that up too), and it was specifically intended to undermine Western Civilization. And you're helping them do it.

Liberal Reader| 3.29.10 @ 11:26PM

Filmer --

Looking up the word "Cultural Marxist" might be difficult. I'll leave it to you to figure out why.

I thought he was probably referring to something like the Frankfurt School, but they did not use this bogus phrase.

Anyway, they did NOT manufacture the concept -- for or against -- of racism. It was in use long before they were around.

And by the way? About the Frankfurt School. Your criticism sounds EXACTLY like the criticisms leveled at them by another reactionary group. Want to guess who they were?

victor| 3.29.10 @ 11:37PM

Lib Read:
"Hitler had instituted a blatantly RACIST government that scapegoated Jews and other ethnic groups,"

You mean much like your Uncle Joe did in the Soviet Union?

BTW
"Cultural Marxism is a generic term referring to a loosely associated group of critical theorists who have been influenced by Marxist thought and who have sought to apply critical theory to matters of family composition, gender, race, and cultural identity within Western society."

""Political Correctness is cultural Marxism. It is Marxism translated from economic into cultural terms. It is an effort that goes back not to the 1960s and the hippies and the peace movement, but back to World War I. If we compare the basic tenets of Political Correctness with classical Marxism the parallels are very obvious."

Liberal Reader| 3.29.10 @ 10:41PM

One can find this sort of thing on any white supremacist website.

The rhetorical trick is transparent. You'd have to be retarded to miss it, but I'll explicate it nonetheless.

Racists benefit when charges of racism are immediately dismissed as leftist overreaching.

The more they can convince people that the "real" racism exists among people who accuse them of racism, they more they can extend their racist agenda unimpeded.

Well, I refuse to let it go by. It's a cheap tactic of white supremacists, who want to convince you that the "real" victims of racial discrimination in this country -- after 300 years of slavery and 100 years of Jim Crow -- are white people! This, as anyone with an education knows, is nonsense, despite a handful of anecdotes that can be mustered to make such a fearfully ignorant and vicious claim.

Liberal Reader| 3.29.10 @ 10:43PM

Just to be clear, my comment above was addressed to Extremely Extremist, not Paleoconservative.

SoCon| 3.29.10 @ 10:58PM

Just to be clear, we think you're a stinkin' traitor, troll.

Liberal Reader| 3.29.10 @ 11:23PM

And that's your right. Thank God the country I live in is not the totalitarian hell-hole you would make it, where any person who steps out of line with the fascist ideology is targeted as a "traitor."

victor| 3.29.10 @ 11:39PM

Glad you feel that way, because I hereby sentence you to remain an American for the rest of your life.

SoCon| 3.29.10 @ 11:46PM

The ACORN Brown-Shirts are part of your party--not mine; I'd never tolerate traitors on my side.

Nick| 3.29.10 @ 11:39PM

Frothy Reader,

Did you miss my first post from this morning?
It has been widely reported that John Lewis (D-GA, and racist) used the "H" word (rhymes with "tonky"), fomenting violence in liberals.

Why are you defending these racists in the democrat party?

Marc Jeric| 3.29.10 @ 10:54PM

Accusations of racism by the far-left remind me of the communist standard propaganda in that commie hell from which I and multiple millions of others escaped. The usual words to describe their enemies were "capitalist dogs", "enemies of the working classes", "running dogs of capitalism", "butchers of workers", etc.

Nick| 3.29.10 @ 11:34PM

Margie,

Since this thread is so long, here is my response to your guess at my name, from above, in case you missed it:

Ding-Ding-Ding-Ding-Ding!!!!!

We have a winner!

I was wondering how long it would take someone to get that! Like I would give these liberal nuts my real name, ha!

Bonus points if you can figure out the address.

May you and Victor have a Blessed Holy Week and Easter.
You too, SoCon.
God Bless!

p.s. Did you e-mail 3/5 Bob yet, Margie?

victor| 3.29.10 @ 11:44PM

Home of the Cubs, 102 years since you won your last Series.

Nick| 3.29.10 @ 11:54PM

Excellent Victor!

Although, I'm from Detroit.

The only reason I know the address of Wrigley Field is because I have seen "The Blues Brothers" too many times to admit.

SoCon| 3.29.10 @ 11:56PM

I thought you were from Detroit, Nick--you're in heating and air cond. as I recall.

I have lots of family in Michigan and Ohio--mid-westerners are the salt of the earth.

SoCon| 3.29.10 @ 11:54PM

May God bless and keep you and your family this Holy Week, Nick. A joyous Easter to you, too.
God bless you also, Margie and Victor--have a Blessed Easter.

To you LibReader I say, God have mercy on your soul. You'll need it.

Margie| 3.30.10 @ 12:00AM

SoCon,
You're a delight. In spite of Liberal Reader's opinion.
God bless you and yours, too.
"Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another." Prov. 27:17
Liberal Reader~repent!

Margie| 3.29.10 @ 11:54PM

Hahaha! No, I was serious. Heehee.
e mail Bob? Right away at threefifthsbob@fiscalconservative.com, right? LOL
God bless you and yours too, Nick,
and don't forget to save a seat for us in the stadium.
p.s. I think we found out (at least my husband tells me) where Bob works at the Dead Letter Office at the U.S. Postal Service. Bob is trying to translate the letters into Aramaic.
'Night.

Extremely Extreme Extremist | 3.30.10 @ 12:47AM

Leftist politicians have so run amuck in this country and are so secure in their blackmail-fueled offices that I honestly believe it is the American citizen who needs to fear violence at their hands and not vice versa. I'm not talking about some abstract, legislative violence, either. I mean actual, personal, physical violence.

If you're tempted to think I'm nuts, let me ask you this: would you dare to bet against me? I predict we will soon be reading a story about Congressman Excon who, allegedly feeling threatened by a Tea Partier wielding a cardboard sign and yelling racist/misogynistic/homophobic slurs, pulls out a gun and shoots the old woman in the chest.

Yosemeti Sam| 3.30.10 @ 1:38AM

Perhaps Messrs Frank Rich, Derrick Jackson, Charles Blow and Colbert King may attest to the
whereabouts of that Mao Zedong White Christmas
tree ornament - or is it above their pay grade to
ferret out a genuine story of disdain for America?

martin j smith| 3.30.10 @ 8:32AM

In my view the lessons of knowing your "enemy" are important. But, if it makes you feel better or feel good rebuting LR's and their ilk then by all means go for it.
As for me what I will do is read selected trolls and point out no to them, because I think of them as talking from a script but to other bloggers what the party line seems to be. For example in the case of the recent Tea Party protest agsinst the HC legislation-- Socialist Left refuse to debate the real issues of economic damage to the nation or
the idea that voters views are ignored-little stuff like that but--the predictable race card,or "violence" or "homophobia". This is off the topic because the Socialist Left do not have answers for them. It is the Party Line.

Tim| 3.30.10 @ 8:44AM

"Listen you supercilious hick."
That was memorable. Yes, conservatives need to tone down the hate speech.

martin j smith| 3.30.10 @ 10:10AM

To illustrate the Party Line from LR I go back to hist post look at the language LR uses--his phrases. "racist program","fringe elements","civil debate"
Yet each of these phrases would apply to many Left organs such as SEIU,ACORN, Code Pink,Weather Under Ground. The import thing to learn about LR and his ilk is this: When you listen to the MSM ( LR referrs to Chris Mathews--that great scholar ) you will the very same talking points that LR writes of.--exactly. Now if this is the case, and I beleive it is--is LR "listening" or in my parlance playing ping pong..

You could bring up the issue of allegations without proof is slander, you could bring up the name calling by the likes of BHO and Nancy Peolsi or Harry Reid--and validly question their civil discourse--lacvk of. But LR and the ilk don't care. And the reason for that is ound the Rules ofr Radicals of Saul Alinsky. That is why i take the position that I do.
