The Democrats own this debacle. But the Republicans are, in football terms, like the Washington Redskins. They have an excellent defense and no offense. They have seldom put points on the board since the Reagan years, even more rarely since the early Gingrich years, and not at all since George W. Bush put two conservatives on the Supreme Court.

Eventually, without a strong offense, even the best defense will tire and fail. This is what we saw today. With one exception: Touchdowns can never be repealed. Disastrous pieces of legislation, no matter how difficult it may be, can.

And like the Redskins, their problem is depth. The Redskins sign big name, big money free agents who come, not to win, but to get paid.

In the NFL, you build depth through the draft. In politics, you build depth through the grass roots.

The Redskins need to hold on to their draft picks and use them to get quality athletes to back up their starters and play special teams. The Republicans need to recruit good candidates from the grass roots (tea party movement?).

EXACTLY! Too bad us "outsiders" can't even find out where to volunteer for the GOP. I've tried. I've been rebuffed at every turn. I just get emails and letters to send money.

Time for the Tea Parties to drop their "nonpartisan" pretense of and take over the GOP. For one thing, it's just been proven that nothing any Democrat says about fiscal responsibility or pro-life can ever be trusted again.

Bingo, Mr Antle. A lot will be said in the coming months about how to turn this new law around. But the starting point of those efforts will need to be to replace some key Republicans. They fought the good fight. But they couldnt stop it. We need a new breed of tougher Republicans who can knife fight. Too many Republican leaders are too "nice,", and too inexperienced or ineffectual at offense. The good news is that the emerging Republican bench is strong. Rubio, Palin, Perry, Bachman, and others similar play offense far better than McConnel, Gregg, and McCain. The new breed is likely to get their break out of this disaster.

Even worse historically the liberal Republicans have actually helped the opponents, time after time. Like they helped Obama pass stimulus and some Republicans voted for cap & trade, until conservatives woke up and tea parties made them realize the price.

In a "normal" year, health care would have passed by now, and it would have been bi-partisan, with Snowe, Collins, Republican Specter, McCain, and maybe Hatch voting for it.

Remember the "Gang of 14" where liberal Republicans blocked an attempt to force majority rule by the Republicans, saying it would destroy the Senate. There is none of that from Democrats -- they are united and fight to win.

The Republican Party can have four aces in its hand a still lose the poker game. "Jim" above is right. There are several key Republicans who should be given the retirement party with the gold watch.

The Democrats do play to win. Winning is the name of the game for them. Meanwhile, the Republicans act like the High School debating team. Politics is a blood sport. Nothing gains respect and fear is the bloody axe.

Democrats play to win.

RINOs play to lose.

If the GOP is like the Redskins, then the Dem's are like the Yankees...The media loves them, They spend non-stop, their ranks are filled with has- beens and crybabies, and they are a bunch of "Barney Franks."

If we are the Redskins (I grew up a fan), then we need George Allen's phrase "THE FUTURE IS NOW". Write a check to the conservative candidate of your choice today. Our comeback starts now...

You might say the Republicans have an owner problem just like the Redskins. Dan Snyder has been an incompetent owner for the Redskins. The owners of the Republican Party- the Bushes, John McCain, the Chamber of Commerce, the Wall Street Journal and the neo-conservatives- have been similarly incompetent.
