Stupak's Deal

I agree with Phil's assessment. The executive order is essentially a reiteration of the Senate abortion language coupled with promises of enforcement by a pro-choice administration. If you don't find that language persuasive, this executive order shouldn't be either. That is why it is acceptable to pro-choice advocates in a way that the Stupak Amendment was not.

If the Obama administration goes beyond the Senate abortion language and moves closer to Stupak in its interpretation of the health care bill once it becomes law, it is not clear that federal courts will let it stand. And that is the most charitable assumption one can make from a pro-life perspective under the terms of this "deal."

"it is not clear that federal courts will let it stand"

That's the whole point. We have presidents, not kings. The president can't change the law just by saying so.

If ObamaCare passes, the executive order will quickly be overturned by a court.

This was just a way for Stupak to save face while caving in.

This was just political CYA subterfuge by Stupak and his gang.

Just wait until the federal government starts telling pregnant women they will not pay for expensive pre-natal care and delivery, but will only pay for an abortion.

There's your "choice."

Well, this proves it beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Stupak was a mere stalking horse. The Democrat party is now confirmed as communists (pardon the shorthand), and are going to tear up our constitutional contract, regardless.

Some of them are obviously only "useful idiots", but the end results are the same.
I NEVER want to hear again that both parties are the same.
Allowing our "safety nets " to be expanded are nothing like this power grab.
It is time to act.

Ken,
It is over. The GOP had almost 40 years to overturn Roe via SCOTUS appointments. There has never been a federal department that has done anything but grow. Obama will now move swiftly, and Pelosi and Reid are not done. There will moveon immigration and Cap and Trade in similar but quicker fashion. And all the RNC can think about is how they can capture a few more seats. It's over.

Ken (Old Texican)| 3.21.10 @ 9:19PM

JP,
It ain't over 'till I'm dead.
Get used to it.

JP: Are you trying to be a wiseass here tonight? Tonight of all nights? If you're happy about what's going down, right now in Washington, then you're just part of the problem we're facing in America right now. You're part of the gravest Domestic Enemy we've ever faced, The Communist Party (formally know as the Democratic Party).

Nothing is over JP!! Nothing!! "You just don't turn it off! It wasn't my war! You asked me, I didn't ask you! And I did what I had to do to win! But somebody wouldn't let us win! And I come back to the world and I see all those maggots at the airport, protesting me, spitting. Calling me baby killer and all sorts of vile crap! Who are they to protest me? Who are they? Unless they've been me and been there and know what the hell they're talking about!" Or how about this one? "It ain't over, 'till I'm dead". Thanks Rambo and Ken!!

We have only just begun this fight!! I will never be a citizen of a Communist Country!! Never!!

Stan Redmond| 3.22.10 @ 9:50AM

Maybe it is over for this generation but remember the democrat communist progressives have been at this since for over 100 years. They are entrenched in every facet in life. The conservatives have to fight them the same way they won yesterday. By infecting every single government entity and mass media. With talk radio and the internet it will change back but it's going to take a long time. The problem we conservatives have in this fight is we aren't interested in government work like the democrats are. For the most part we are successful in our own persuits. Liberals are power hungry FAILURES bent on retribution and the government is where they fit in best. The Obama (PBUH) has brought change no doubt, change for the worse that has shown just what the democrat statists want. And the American people aren't happy. This will really change when America does become like Greece and the adults take back the riegns and close the government cookie jar to liberal policies. You can fight in your own ways. Find every tax loophole. Apply for every single handout you can to bankrupt them. Start playing the Cloward Piven strategy in to the conservative's hands. Educate yourself and others. If you're like me and a small business owner move your company overseas and avoid this monstrosity of a government. And make sure you explain EXACTLY WHY you are shipping jobs there. "I'm not going to work 60 70 80 hours a week to feed the beast and only take home a pittance for myself." Hit the government hard where it hurts, their lergess. Take every handout you can get, it's already your money and when they whale and moan about cutting teachers and cops then say GOOD. Cut them. Conservatives need to play their game their way. It seems hopeless now and I share your gloom but it won't help. Starve the beast not just by limiting how much food is given, but take away what it has. Remember how long the democrats have been at this. The brink of federal collapse is near and it will be painful when we fall over it. But eventually conservatives will save the country. I tried fighting, we tried fighting, by just slowing down the government take over and federal bankruptcy. It's time to change the strategy and help bankrupt it.

The malignant Obama and his Democrats would like to make all laws by executive order. Congress could just forget about meeting, and have the executive branch make the laws. Scrap the whole health care bill and replace it with a 2,400 page executive order? Obama and the Democrats are a malignancy on the Constitution.

Mick Lee| 3.22.10 @ 10:10AM

If you think it all stops here, just wait. This is just the beginning.

.Obamacare will be will be fiddled with for the rest of its existence. More and more "services" will be required. Washington will decide if there are too many of a particular procedure (ear tubes, for example) being done so quotas will be set up so that each hospital and surgery center can only perform so many each year. What will be left is Washington's preferred treatment (instead of ear tubes, cheap antibiotics.).

Along with this, lobbyists will campaign to have special favors and exceptions written in future bills. Unions will work so their health insurance plans will not counted as "cadillac" plans, thus escaping the tax on above average plans. Specifications will be written so ways that will exclude several potential service providers to the advantage of one favored company.

Like I said, this is only the beginning.
