The news is changing fast and furiously on the health care front, with abortion continuing to be a major sticking point. There are conflicting signals over whether Speaker Nancy Pelosi can pass the bill without Rep. Bart Stupak and his allies, but she did confirm that there was a possibility of President Obama signing an executive order saying that there couldn't be public funding for abortion. So did Steny Hoyer.

While we don't yet have the details, it's hard to see what could be accomplished through an executive order. You might recall, for instance, President Obama's executive order about closing Guatanamo within a year.

UPDATE: Majority Leader Steny Hoyer just confirmed in a press conference that they wouldn't pursue the "deem and pass" strategy. "We believe we have the votes," he said. He also said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid showed House Democrats a letter signed by at least 50 Democrats in the Senate who said they would support reconciliation.

UPDATE II: National Right to Life Committee says that an executive order would not be able to fix the problem.

Drag Obama out of White House and put him on trial for treason!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would not be too surprised to see an attempt by "Walks On Water" to make this health care boondoggle law by executive order, if he does not get it passed in the House. He wants this more than anything in the whole world. It has consumed his every waking hour since Jan 20, 2009.

Obviously, what's going on here is a bluff. Obama, Democrats and MSM are trying to play the "inevitability" game: "It's going to pass no matter what, so stop objecting!"

If they actually had the votes, they wouldn't be doing all this televised hype.

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 3.20.10 @ 4:21PM

Gee Whiz!! Waiting for this vote to happen, is worse than waiting for the Super Bowl and Christmas to come, combined!! Tomorrow can't come soon enough for me, at least we'll know where everybody stands "officially", as the next battle begins. I'm still holding out hope, that there just might be a few Democrats who have promised a "Yes" vote, and are part of the Grand Tally right now, but when it comes time for the vote on the floor, they're going to vote "No". Call me an optimist if you will, but I still think this piece of *** (legislation) is going to be voted down. It just can't be possible, that all 100% of Democrats in Congress can be bought with a ride on Air Force One, or some other trinket? Or do they actually sell their souls for so little?

Missy| 3.20.10 @ 5:42PM

What souls?

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 3.20.10 @ 5:58PM

I was just giving them, the benefit of the doubt Missy. It's just not possible that all 100% of them are soulless, I'll agree that the majority of the Democrats in Congress are soulless (80-90%), but it just can't be 100%. Can it? It sucks being optimistic, it really does!! Especially when reality smashes you in the face again, and you act surprised that it did it again. I'll never learn?

Missy| 3.20.10 @ 9:11PM

You're such a sweet thing, LLL!

Perhaps soon I'll feel like hope springs eternal once more, but for today, my rose colored glasses just aren't very rosy. :|
