I
predicted earlier this week that neither of the Cleveland
Browns' recently departed quarterbacks would be starters in the
NFL this coming season. I'm not ready to revise that prediction,
but the chances for both Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson have
gotten better.
Quinn was traded to the Denver Broncos earlier this week. Now
Anderson has
agreed to terms with the Kurt Warner-less Arizona Cardinals.
Neither team seems to be completely locked into forcing their
newly acquired QBs into backup roles. So that means all Quinn
would have to do is win a quarterback competition with Kyle Orton
and Anderson would have to beat out Matt Leinart -- a somewhat
tougher assignment for Quinn than Anderson, but not inconceivable
in either case. I'd still bet on Orton and Leinart, but after
getting out of Cleveland Quinn and Anderson are both pretty
hungry.
Maybe … but while they were here in cleveland neither could hit
water if they fell out of a boat.
If they are successful – then Cleveland is cursed – but I doubt
they will be. Anderson was a flash in the pan and Quinn was
over-rated from the get go.

Who exactly did either of them have to throw to in Cleveland? I
like Braylon Edwards, but he drops way too many catchable passes;
Donte Stallworth was more interested in his nxt drink than his
next route...and who else was there? Mohammed Massaquoi might end
up being okay, but he is too young to rely on and they shipped
Kellen Winslow II to Tampa for basically nothing. And don't get
me started on their nonexistant running game, headlined by Jamal
"Twinkletoes" Lewis!
Both the quarterbacks may be dirt rotten in the end, but judging
them on their play with a woeful Browns team, led by a coaching
luminary like Eric Mangenious isn't quite fair. And Brady Quinn
might just sursprise some people in Denver...including Kyle
Orton!

In Washington we now have the mediocre Rex Grossman to challenge
the mediocre Jason Campbell. Oh woe.
