Rep. James Oberstar, a Democrat who had previously supported the Stupak language on abortion, has now decided to vote "yes" on the health care bill, even with the Senate language.

Politico reports:

"I wanted to see the language, understand it better, have conversations with Sen. Nelson," Oberstar said Wednesday. "On balance, it does what we need to do."

G,you're right about Oberstar. This character is one of hundreds of Democrats indistinguishable from one another whose only achievement in life has been getting a decent parking spot at Reagan International. T

(what is it with this computer today) When push comes to shove, what Democrat has renounced his party to spare the unborn? You're either in or you're out on the subject....the democrats, all of them as far as I can tell, are ultimately out.

Mr. Oberstar,

I understand you’ve made your decision to “self-execute” a vote in favor of the Senate’s version of the health care reform bill. Patrick O’Connor at Pilitico.com quotes you as stating: “on balance, it (the bill) does what we need to do.” Mr. O’Connor then stated that “you reached your conclusion after reviewing language and speaking with Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson, who negotiated restrictions on the Senate’s bill.”
My curiosity aroused, I decided to look into the Senate bill’s text to see what language and negotiated restrictions might have convinced you to support this historic legislation. I was repulsed by what I found in the words of the bill:
“The Secretary would ensure that in each State Exchange, at least one plan provides coverage of abortions beyond those permitted by Hyde”. “Issuers of plans that offer coverage for abortion beyond those permitted by the Hyde amendment must segregate from any premium and cost-sharing credits an amount of each enrollee’s private premium dollars that is determined by the Secretary to be sufficient to cover the provision of those services.” “In making such estimates, the Secretary may take into account the impact of including such coverage on overall costs, but may not consider any cost reduction estimated to result from providing such abortions, such as prenatal care.”

With all due respect, Mr. Oberstar, it appears that neither you nor Mr. “Cornhusker Kick-Back” have negotiated the guarantee that my federal tax dollars won’t end up in the wallet of an abortionist. And if you think that a magical “segregation of my contribution to the premiums” will somehow appease me, you’re dead wrong. Blood runs Mr. Oberstar—especially on US currency! I suppose I need to refer to you as “put-a-value-on-life” instead of “pro-life” now that you agree with the evil people who wrote this bill. You know, the ones that actually addressed the potential savings on unspent “prenatal care” generated by terminating pregnancies! I guess a dollar spent on abortion “actuarially” may be a good investment—all things considered, right Jim? I hope you haven’t been persuaded to sell OUR vote (and YOUR soul) for some perverted “Partial-Birth-Pay-Off”. If you think you’re can build us nice roads and bike trails over the remains of dismembered dead babies, you’re going down that path to hell--ALONE!
