The climate alarmists dominate the media and run the
government. But the American people still aren’t buying the
alarmist propaganda.
Reports Gallup:
Gallup’s annual update on Americans’ attitudes toward the
environment shows a public that over the last two years has
become less worried about the threat of global warming, less
convinced that its effects are already happening, and more
likely to believe that scientists themselves are uncertain
about its occurrence. In response to one key question, 48% of
Americans now believe that the seriousness of global warming is
generally exaggerated, up from 41% in 2009 and 31% in 1997,
when Gallup first asked the question.
The American people sometimes make dumb decisions. But it’s
good to see that many of them still have far more common sense
than the typical denizen of Washington!

They voted for Obama. Thet nominated John MacC to run against Obama. Two big mistakes.
Pete| 3.13.10 @ 9:16AM
Still that low? That is so much higher than healthcare approval the Osamites will take it as a mandate from Allah that the people want to be further regulated.
Bob| 3.13.10 @ 9:33AM
Your conclusion on this is totally bogus (something I've gotten used to here at AmSpec). We've gone through a decade of temperature declines (which has happened twice before in the last century) and a very snowy winter (although other parts of the world are at record highs). People look out of their front window and think the world is flat just like you guys. However, when we have another record heat wave, this will change just like people's feeling about Obama if the economy gets much better.
Remember, Reagan's approval rating two years after being elected was 35%, far lower than Obama's 51%. You will come to the point where you say the people are dumb again as you've done in the past....
By the way, I also happen to believe, given a study of the data, that global warming exists, but is not that extreme nor is there much proof that we are responsible. Therefore, except for becoming energy independent with cleaner forms of energy, I don't think we should awaken Chicken Little.
JohnD| 3.13.10 @ 11:54AM
Bob:
Why not become energy independent with coal, oil, and natural gas? These are all cheaper and more efficient forms of energy, all in abundant supply in the United States.
For example, technological advances in oil exploration have made it cheaper to drill in deeper water offshore, and go much farther below the ocean's floor, bringing oceans of oil within reach in U.S. waters.
Solar and wind are expensive, inefficient, and unreliable. Raising the cost of energy raises the cost of everything, reducing our standard of living and overall well-being.
Why not keep cheap, efficient sources of energy, and develop those sources in the U.S. and keep the money here?
Bob| 3.13.10 @ 12:22PM
Natural gas -- certainly. Coal -- it is still HIGHLY polluting. When you burn coal cleanly, it is a much more expensive form of energy. That said, we have an abundance of coal and I think more research should be done on lowering the cost of burning it cleanly. Oil is not anywhere near as cheap as we have less than 3% of the world's reserves. I have no problem with offshore drilling, but it is just a drop in the bucket. That said, we need nuclear badly and have had tons of experience with it. All of these, however, require an investment in energy infrastructure. The infrastructure for natural gas is the most costly. We should be investing in modern electrical infrastructure to carry the output from coal and nuclear and wind and solar, however.
SoCon| 3.13.10 @ 1:57PM
BTW--Rasmussen's superior poll (based on a sample of likely voters not generic adults) shows Obama's approval rating at 45% with 54% disapproving.
Obama's UNDER 50%.
On Obama's performance:
27% strongly APPROVE
41% strongly DISAPPROVE---a -14% Presidential Approval Index
57% of Americans believe ObamaCare will hurt the economy, just 25% believe it will help (guess you're in that 25%--talk about dumb).
Bob| 3.13.10 @ 6:33PM
Gallup is now at 47% -- still eons better than Reagan at 35%. The point still holds.
SoCon| 3.13.10 @ 10:10PM
You're such a liar; why would you lie unless you're a stinkin' troll? It's so easy to out you and your lies.
Eleven months into office (12/31/81) Gallup showed Reagan's job approval rating was at 49% (it was actually higher because Gallup over-sampled democrats).
Thirteen months into office (3/1/10) Gallup shows Obama's job approval rating is at 47% (it's actually lower because Gallup over-samples democrats).
Gallup is less accurate than Rasmussen because it samples generic adults (not likely voters) and over-samples democrats--so that means Obama's favorables are probably in the low forties now.
Obama's favorables are tanking, unemployment numbers remain dismal and government spending is sky-rocketing--no real republican would ever defend the Marxist moron in the White House.
Troll Watch| 3.13.10 @ 5:41PM
"... wind and solar, however. "
When having a serious discussion about energy options in the United States the addition of the above is the sure sign of either a politician trying to attract the stupid vote or in Bob's case just a stupid person.
Nick is so right about the 3/5 one. Bob is only worth mocking.
Bob| 3.13.10 @ 6:34PM
We currently have wind and solar farms. While they are far down the list of economically viable alternatives, the creation of any electrical grid would help lower their costs. Furthermore, we don't have to pay a foreign country for their use. As I've continually said, our best option right now is nuclear.
Troll Watch| 3.13.10 @ 8:41PM
Bob of course voted for a party that won't let nuclear happen. Eventually Democrats will have to get on board but they have caused a huge delay. What they have done is almost criminal. There is a reason solar and wind need government money. They are bad ideas. Without it they disappear.

Gotta disagree with you on this one, Pete2: Let liars lie long enough without refutation and pretty soon their lies become " facts." I'm tired of Liberals' lies; someone's got to fight back.
Trolls like Bob remind me of Joseph Goebbels and his "Big Lie" technique of propaganda which was based on the principle, "That a lie, if audacious enough and repeated enough times, will be believed by the masses."
Not on my watch.
astonerii | 3.13.10 @ 6:48PM
The difference between Reagan 35% and Obama (Jimmy Carter II) at 44% (not 51% hack), is that Reagan had plans that factually could help the United States of America recover from the Recessions, unemployment levels, and inflation rates that were inherited from Jimmy Carter I. Thus, when it came to 1984 he was able to use the idea, 'are you better off today than you were 4 years ago?', and the vast majority of people were in fact better off.
Obama has plans made in the image of Cloward/Privin strategy which on its basis is intended to leave the whole of what it touches worse off. He may or may not be doing it on purpose, but the fact remains that nothing he has done has improved and has in fact harmed the situation America finds itself in.
The take over of the auto companies has shredded the sanctity of the private contract. As those who had first dibs on the proceeds from a bankruptcy were short changed because instead of going through bankruptcy court as is the law, it went through the white house. If you were risking your own families money on something, do you think you would feel reassured that you would get that money back from an investment after seeing how Obama shredded the contracts of all those owed by GM and Chrysler for the express purpose of enriching Union members? That takes investment out of the economy.
The $787B turned to $842B stimulus package. This package has caused far more damage to the country than it has helped. First, the money has to come from somewhere, and that somewhere is from investment in private sector endeavors that always perform far better than government endeavors for increasing prosperity. Almost all of the money went to state and local governments and was used to close budget holes, and increase wages of public employees that were already making more than their private enterprise counterparts. The bill came with many restrictions which once the money is taken at the state level, the state no longer has the right to adjust their budgets spending into the future. Since the states are going broke, this leaves them only one option to pay for the spending and that is to raise taxes, which will hurt job creation even more. Overall it funded school teachers, and public union members, and created a net 0 if not significantly negative jobs.
The proposed changes to the law that Obama is pursuing. Businesses expand when they have capital to do so, a hungry consumer, a good idea to satisfy that consumer, and they have a level road ahead of them from which to plan and execute their business plan. We have seen how Obama shredded contracts and moved money from private enterprise, so the money is a bit light for expanding, and we also see how high unemployment is, so the consumers are not very hungry for new products, so that leaves the last remaining thing, for those few who still have money and see a need that can be filled and make a profit from, and that is a playing field with rules they can plan for. But Obama has many changes in store for the rules of the game. He wants to force companies to spend more on health care or be fined significantly if they do not. He wants to institute a union card check bill that will allow unions to strong arm company employees to vote for unionization. He wants to implement cap and trade to make energy more expensive and more volatile in that expense eventually driving energy producers out of business and eventually leading to an energy crisis such as what California saw earlier this decade. Business entrepreneurs are looking at the bumpy pot hole filled playing field and watching as the referees shred the rule books and take bribes from the other team while making new rules up.
All in all, Obama has created the perfect storm from which he will never be able to look the voters in the eye and ask if they are better off today than they were in October, 2008. The reason is that for most people, the answer will be clear.
Bob must be paid directly from one of George Soros' front groups. That is why he is such an ignorant and pathetic debater. He also might just be retarded, because for the life of me, I cannot understand why he enjoys making himself look so stupid.

Bob is such a doofus. "We've gone through a decade of temperature declines "
Yeah, but the Medieval Warm period lasted for several centuries, during which it was warmer than today—so warm that Greenland was colonized. Then came the Little Ice Age from which the world is still reccovering. Yet Boob apparently believes that a couple decades of unusual warmth is indicative of permanent climate change.

Pay no attention to 3/5 Bob's comments above.
He is known as 3/5 Bob, because until last June, he thought that blacks had 3/5 of a vote, under the original U.S. Constitution.
He also doesn't know the scientific fact of when human biological life begins because he is unsure of when "ensoulment" happens.
He also claimed he translated the Bible from the original Aramaic when he was a teenager.
He is a pseudo-intellectual and an anti-Christian bigot.
Don't waste your time arguing with him.

Ew! Why do you go there, TW? Last time it was Bob and Brokeback, as I recall.
So wrong.
Troll Watch| 3.13.10 @ 11:38PM
I didn't go there, he did. They are his stories. Somebody else added the fox hole part (I thought it was amusing) but Bob wrote of saving gays and being saved by gays in Vietnam. It didn't read like any soldier I knew when I was in during the same period. He was in the Army when this supposedly happened. Today he was a Marine. How much else about Bob is a lie? I expect quite a bit including the family stuff as well. I believe the Brokeback reference is all that is real about "Bob". People can be pretty strange sometimes and trolls are deceptive by their natures but this is my take. It explains his anti-Christian bigotry and his over concern with gay issues. If I am right you have to admit he just can't quit us. I apologize that you are offended. It wasn't my intent.
SoCon| 3.14.10 @ 12:16AM
TW, don't apologize; you're funny and you make me laugh, and I appreciate your anti-Bob broadsides. Nothing you say about Bob could offend me as much as his presence already has over the last year. :)
The gay angle and Bob do gross me out, though, I can't help it.
Bob claims he's been married to the same woman for 30 or 40 years and has three married daughters. Hmmm.
He's always been a big pro-abort, pro-Obama, Palin hating, pro-illegal immigration anti-Christian guy, but he's hidden his penchant for gaydom until recently. Fakeout.
Makes me think he's really Axelrod Astro-turf troll, Jeremiah/Liberal Reader. What a tricky troll.

Besides destroying the credibility of science, and entering the final chapter of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. These leftists have been propagandizing for decades about man's (who miraculously is outside of nature) destruction of the planet. Their game was to deliberately confuse pollution (which is bad) with natural phenonmenon (CO2) in order to dissemble sovereignity (that climate stuff conveniently transcends borders) The problem is that they were so over the top, ham-handed, and Keystone Copish about the manner in which they unveiled this faux crisis, that even the "American Idol" crowd began to figure it out. It was clearly a political (UN) game. What was disappointing, however, was the slow response from the scientific community itself, which apparently was cowered by threats of witheld grants, isolation, blackballing, and name calling (deniers)
The world- those who are honest and objective -sees this for the attempted scam that it is. I suspect that this and the Trojan Horse story will find widespread laughs in future textbooks (if the revisionists don't write them)
What they did was wake the world to the scale of political/scientific conspiracy and deception. Nice try folks!
