Democrats may attach a contentious new plan to overhaul the student loan system to the reconciliation bill that will be the vehicle to ram through their health care legislation, but as the Hill reports, that may complicate their ability to pass the health care bill.
President Obama has been pushing through a proposal that would eliminate the involvement of private companies in student lending, and instead have the government do all of the lending directly. A lot of conservatives have called this another government takeover, although my view is more nuanced because the theoretically private companies have most of their loans backed up by the federal government anyway. As I wrote last July when the bill first came up in the House, "It’s hard to shed many tears for Sallie Mae and other providers that are able to make profits by earning interest on federally-backed loans, while all of the risk is ultimately absorbed by the American taxpayers." The Wall Street Journal editorialized against the bill yesterday, and offered reasons in favor of maintaining the private companies (such as superior customer service).

We should all be feeling like the goose that is to produce Pate' (sp?) food is crammed down its throat to fatten its liver to use at high class parties to put on their crackers. At least the goose has PETA to protect and protest this action. Who do we lowly citizens have to speak in our behalf and protest the cramming of more and more government down our throats. A socialist nation we are becoming, freedom will no longer ring and all bells will be removed. My question, whats with all of a sudden the 'gayness' in the senate and he house. That now can be used as a convenient weapon but on the other hand you can't PC get up and speak in public and call someone gay or say something minutely racial. Debate? mblr??? there is no such thing now ... drink your gruel and thank them, be grateful. I am so glad I'm on the down side of my life, don't think I could take another 60 years of this BS.

The problem I find with this proposal is the possiblity of the Fed. Gov. using this new lending entitlement to coerce students into majors and employment locations of its choice. It will be"fair" and allow you to "pay back" for your civil duty, don't you see.

My question is, sudden and "all the gayness' What is the Senate and the House. Today can be seen in a gun is easy to use, but on the other hand you can not get up and call someone gay in your PC, and public discussion of race or something, use with caution.
