A great note from a reader re my brief blog entry last week
on
light bulbs:
Dear Mr. Hillyer,
I really appreciated your contribution on light bulbs. I’d like
to add two more observations. I use conventional incandescent
lighting in my livestock barns, with some fluorescent tubes in
the aisles of the barns to augment the light. When the
temperature drops below 30 to 35, I’ve noticed that the
fluorescent tubes’ light output drops to a fraction of what it
previously was. Add that to the fact that my fluorescent tubes
last about ¼ the time that the incandescent bulbs have lasted.
I’m certainly not a fan of CFLs and hope to stockpile enough of
the old bulbs to last until there is a reasonable alternative or
someone comes to their senses and reverses the new regulation.
Thanks for your enlightening article!
