Rep. Eric Massa, the first term Congressman from New York, announced Wednesday afternoon that he would not seek reelection.

Earlier today, the Politico reported that he was retiring because of an ethics inquiry into whether he sexually harassed a male staffer. But this afternoon, he denied the allegations, and cited his health. “I do not have the life’s energy to fight all the battles all the time,” he told reporters, according to Talking Points Memo. “I will now enter the final phase of my life at a more controlled pace.”

Another wrinkle in this is that Massa was one of the 39 “no” votes against Obamacare. He is a single-payer advocate and thus opposed it from the left. But the original House bill included a public option, which the revised Senate bill does not have. So it isn’t clear how these latest developments would affect his final vote.

More democrat culture of corruption--is there ONE democrat who ISN'T corrupt?

Spicy Joker| 3.4.10 @ 2:16AM

I wonder who will run for Eric Massabater's seat.

Kitty| 3.4.10 @ 7:25AM

I live in Massa's district. Here's the hometown news on Massa:
http://www.the-leader.com/news.....e-election

I didn't know anything about him until he ran for office. I learned that he loves the limelight as much as Schumer.

I also know he wants a single-payer health care system, which makes me wonder just how much he really knows how it. He was famous for carrying his dog-earred copy of a health care bill with him on his town hall meet'n'greets. Which made me wonder: Does he think the average joe would recieve the same kind of cancer care he has recieved? Does he honestly care?

I'm sorry for his health problems, but I'm glad he's gone.

I also live in his district. Attended one of his town meetings. Did a good job of handling the crowd. Mostly concerned about how to pay for the HC bill. At least he showed up unlike Rep. Slaughter and Sen. Schumer who were too afraid to face the people in their districts. They are both leftists and follow the party line no matter what the people want. Now we have to dump them. Like Washington, New York is being strangled by total Democrat control.

Cancer scare? That might be the excuse but reports keep coming out that the real reason is a history of sexually harassing male subordinates, going all the way back to his navy days: http://www.boblonsberry.com/writings.cfm?go=4

Hank, I'm curious. Does Massa get to keep the health care he has now?
