Following yesterday's summit, top House Democrats have been
giving mixed signals on whether the Senate would have to act
first in order to pass a health care bill.
In MSNBC appearances, House Majority Whip James Clyburn and House
Education and Labor Committee Chairman George Miller both
signaled a willingness for the House to act first.
But then Speaker Nancy Pelosi sung a different tune.
"It's up to them," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi at her
weekly press conference today, referring to the Senate.
Pelosi wants the answer to a few questions before she can
proceed. "One, what is the substance. Secondly, what is the
Senate able to do with a simple majority. And then we will act
on that," she said.
On substance, Pelosi needs the Senate's affordability
provisions strengthened. She wants the final legislation to
close the prescription-drug donut-hole for seniors, to be
stripped of the Nebraska Medicaid deal, and for the tax
structure of the bill to be moved away from the controversial
excise tax.
However, the House can't act, she noted, until "we see what the
Senate will be able to do."
The problem as I see it is that even if Harry Reid were to assure
Pelosi that the Senate could pass some sort of reconciliation
bill to appease House members, it would be impossible to know
ahead of time what they'd actually be able to do through
reconciliation. The way the process works, it's subject to a
series of rulings by the Senate parlimentarian that can't be
predicted ahead of time.
The democrat Party performance at the "summit would be a grade of
" F". And, most viewers know the truth: This thing was phoney fro
the start and, if Jamming government healthcare " is the route of
the Dems, they will be burned toast. They might do it anyway
because Obama, their dear leader's ego is so big that it is
larger than the population of China. But we'll see who blinks.

The Summit did accomplish its purpose - fix blame on Republicans.
If the Democrats can't pass health care, they want the
Republicans to get the blame. They may also use this as a pretext
to do away with the 60 vote cloture rule (fillibuster) in the
Senate. That would be a good second best for them. They know they
will loose seats in November, but they should be able to hang
onto a bare majority. With the cloture rule abolished, they can
still ram their agenda through.

the republicans will get the 'credit' not the blame.

The Democrats showed that they're shallow politicians that speak
in cliche's and their only weapon seems to be lame anecdotes. The
Republicans came prepared and showed up for a real meeting to
exchange ideas. And of course our President was shown to be the
narcissistic, hollow "talk machine" with thin skin who reverts to
insults when challenged.

Here is my view of the summit( so called in quotes ):
Republicans won Democrat Party lost.
Democrat party & Obama will sulk and have reconcilation
tantrum( or try to )
The majority of voters already opposed to Government Health Care
will grow even further.
Even newspeople who are defintely not on the left agree the Dems
lost the highground. Obama, Reid and other participants looked
bad.
The fight is not over, but the so called summit was a win for
anti-government taker people.
One more more thing, did you hear that in a recent poll, a
majority of Americans feel government is taking their rights away
? So apparently most Americans fear bigg government. Funny thing
?
