The Spectacle Blog

In case you’ve learned nothing from history: tyrannical dictators (Hitler, Stalin, Ahmadinejad) tend to, what we call, speak in half, no, near-zero truths.

Yet, some Administrations fear that the likes of Ahmadinejad are just prone to puffery:

“We do not believe they have the capability to enrich to the degree they say they are enriching,” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said at last Thursday’s daily briefing.

Story from The Hill :

An International Atomic Energy Agency report expresses worry that Iran may be working on a nuclear warhead, despite a 2007 U.S. intelligence assessment that found the Islamic Republic stopped such work in 2003.

The United Nations’ nuclear watchdog also confirmed that Iran had indeed enriched uranium to nearly 20 percent, a claim made by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during revolutionary anniversary festivities last week but rebuffed by the White House.

I never thought I’d say this, I think I’m inclined to believe the United Nations.

Now what.

OKOK! I'm sorry, Robert. I could not resist. heh.
to answer your question of "Now what?"

I did a double take on your blog title and got a chuckle.
Perhaps I won't feel so bad the next time I have a senior moment.
At the same time, I wouldn't believe the United Thugs of the world any more than I would believe the Thugs in DC.

Ken,
Glad to see you are still active. For a minute I feared maybe it was you in Austin wasting a good Belanca. Glad it wasn't. Heh. :)

Bush could have taken this problem down three years ago, just as Clinton could have settled with N. Korea back in the 90's. Now the problem is much more serious. Can't expect others to do our dirty work for us this time.

BTW saw the PPI site the other day. Great company.

Naw, Al Adab,
I'm not a kamikazi. I'm from the George Patton school of thought. (your job is to make the other SOB die for...)

Thank you re PPI. we have 44 offices coast to coast now. Check us out on youtube with appropriate search terms.

Iraq? Is this a post from 2002-03? Don't you have online editors and proof readers?

Re Iran, nucs and possibles.
1. Iran can and will make Nucs. It is a natural end result from processing U238.
2. Delivery systems are on line, tested, and alive.
3. Motivation to use the systems, the Nucs, and the available targets are in place.

It does not take a genius, a UN agency nor a sleeping OBNA to understand that the clock is ticking. One day we will be " surprised" that the Iran Leadership has quietly eliminated Israel,
Now What???

Tenn- the fissible isotope of Uranium is U235, not U238. U238 is the most common isotope of Uranium, the stuff that enriching tries to separate from the "good stuff".
