Scott Brown came out punching immediately after being sworn in as
a senator,
claiming that the stimulus hasn’t created one new job.
Convening his first news conference, Brown said the last
economic stimulus bill didn’t create a single new job. He added
that it may have retained some jobs, but didn’t create any new
ones.
Republicans have questioned the way President Barack Obama’s
administration has counted jobs created or saved with stimulus
money. But most economists believe new jobs were created even
though unemployment rates rose.
It’s hard to guess what motivated him to say this. It’s
DeMint-esque.

Good for him. Even if that may be techincally false (the construction company near where I live putting in the unnecessary traffic light as part of the "thanks for the election payoff bill" probably hired at least one incremental stop sign holder), his position is far closer to reality than the administration's. Every Republican in Congress should be hammering away on this daily if only to get the other side to lie more frequently and transparently.
Vanessa| 2.5.10 @ 11:56AM
This Administration counts government jobs in their numbers for "creating/saving jobs". Well it isn't considering taxpayers are paying for these jobs!!!
mitch | 2.4.10 @ 8:50PM
Hard to guess why he said it? Maybe because it is true.
ECM| 2.4.10 @ 10:00PM
It's mostly accurate and he's started running for Prez already.
Pat Spooner| 2.5.10 @ 2:57AM
What Senator Brown said is true. We have the same issue that Pete mentioned at an interstate highway construiction project in Southern New Hampshire. Everyday, rain or shine I see two detail officers standing together talking - one of them will occasionally stop traffic to let an enddump cross the road but otherwise they are always standing next to each other talking. One person could easily manage the traffic here but thanks to the obama recovery spending we pay for two officers, who are currently employeed fulltime, earning extra pay which also drives up their future retirement payouts!
ggoblue| 2.5.10 @ 7:39AM
the only way to judge job creation is with the big picture. obamanomics is down 3 million and counting...
and lets start reminding the american people that when the democrats took over the congress [1-1-07] the unemployment rate was 4.65% and the dow was at 13,000.
how can they blame bush when he never stopped a single bill from passage in 8 years? thats right, not even one.
Ret. Marine| 2.5.10 @ 8:19AM
Ah come on now, GGOBLUE, we can't let these pesky facts get in the way of a non-story now can we? SARC-off. Yeah you're right, when was the last time we heard a repukeagain call this one out?
Ellis Wyatt| 2.5.10 @ 11:03AM
The government can create jobs, make work jobs. What it cannot do is create wealth. Sure, we have a couple of new sign holders for a short term road project. But to get these nowhere jobs we had to remove capital from the private sector that may have been used to create a new product or service that would have produced many long term jobs at higher wages and offered society a product or service they could use to be more productive or simply satisfy a demand. Tell me where capital is better spent, an innovative private sector reacting to the millions of demands of a market or a government office creating a job that has no sustaining value?
The Reticulator | 2.6.10 @ 4:23PM
The government can't create additional jobs, but it can steal some. It can destroy jobs in the private sector and use the money to create other jobs in the government or in politically well-connected organizations.
cliff| 2.5.10 @ 11:04AM
He might be "technically" wrong in the sense that it did "create" certain jobs that weren't there before, but they were A. temporary, and B. The reckless spending didn't help encourage real job growth, and crowed out real job growth.
But essentially, he was right. And the public already agrees with him. He's not taking a risk, he's shooting a bullet at the D's head.
Alf| 2.5.10 @ 11:34AM
Of course the obombinites created jobs, look at the $2.5 million super bowl ad for the census. Note that the buddies holding trafic go/no-go signs are more than likely union insiders that always get jobs while the rest of the"brotherhood" sits at home waiting for the mail to bring their unemployment benefit check.
Chas | 2.5.10 @ 12:05PM
He SHOULD have spent every penny on small business creation. Then when new problems crop up, spend MORE on small business creation to solve the problem. Then when the money runs out, the solution is still working on it's own.
Indy Voter| 2.5.10 @ 1:00PM
The government does not create jobs, it may set policy that impacts job growth / loss but it doesn't create jobs. The private sector is extremely nervous with the legislative agenda, proposed regulation where the Treasury Sec can take over any business if it is deemed a "risk" to the economy and the rise in interest rates that will eventually come. We are broke, families don't raise their credit level to get out of debt, our government is way out of control. Thank you Sen. Brown and thank you MA voters for sending sanity to DC!
Jim O'Brien| 2.5.10 @ 5:47PM
Amen. The government does not create jobs, it just takes our tax money (or increases the obscene and dangerous national debt) and spends, spends, spends. The government sucks up capital, making less available to private enterprise, where real jobs are created. The U.S. economy has lost 2.7 million jobs since the "stimulus" passed and 3.4 million since Obama was elected. But Obama says he has created or "saved" jobs --- an outright lie.
Dave| 2.5.10 @ 1:29PM
I can only imagine where this Country is going with the Commie Stooges in the White House and Congress that only create massive debt for our future. What's next ? Oh yeah Gun Control - after all we can't have all you Honest Citizens having guns - after all you might hurt some poor criminal !

Scott Brown is an empty birthday suit.
SCOTT BROWN IS THE CENTERFOLD
(sung to the J. Geils Band song “Centerfold”)
C’mon !
Does he walk? Does he talk?
Is he G.O.P.?
Scott Brown’s a Men’s Room angel
Larry Craig would share his seat
His buns are white like snowflakes
No underwear to stain
He poses like a sweet angel
Naked but with no brain
This sad guy loves posing in those porno magazines
He’s like a nudist angel and he’s pimping out his teens
(CHORUS)
He must be cold
A naked man if truth be told
That Scott Brown is the centerfold
Scott Brown is the centerfold
He must be cold
A naked man if truth be told
Scott Brown is the centerfold
Nude behind his Senate desk
This girlie man should be in a dress
Can he see that Larry Craig
Is giving him the eye
He is naked but for shoes
Much too indecent for the news
You must wear clothes on TV
They told that Scott Brown guy
Wear diapers like Dave Vitter
They do not cover much
Or simply wear a negligee
That would be a nice touch
(CHORUS)
He must be cold
A naked man if truth be told
That Scott Brown is the centerfold
Scott Brown is the centerfold
He must be cold
A naked man if truth be told
Scott Brown is the centerfold
(na, na, na, na, na, na…..)
It’s okay we understand
Scott’s nudity should not be banned
But while prancing on the Senate lawn
We wish he would keep his clothes on
Take his truck, Yes he will
He’ll take that truck and drive it
He says the cab has lots of room
For his ass and his private
He says that his bod’s really ripped
He loves it when his clothes are stripped
Oh, no, Scott can’t deny it
Oh yeah, it’s time for him to diet!
(CHORUS)
He must be cold
A naked man if truth be told
That Scott Brown is the centerfold
Scott Brown is the centerfold
He must be cold
A naked man if truth be told
Scott Brown is the centerfold
(REPEAT)

Let me 'SPLAIN it to ya, folks, okay? Barry's/Democrats' proclamation of SAVING JOBS is essentially true [numbers notwithstanding]. The jobs save were GOVERNMENT JOBS whose jobholders should have been fired, laid off,etc due to the economic/financial downturn that exists today; but whose jobs were maintained by his/their stimulus money. While American taxpayers/workers in the PRIVATE SECTOR were losing their jobs, and are now unemployed; GOVERNMENTAL/PUBLIC JOBS are not only not being reduced, but are increasing from governmental hirings. So the American taxpayers are financially supporting government workers in the PRIVATE SECTOR [who should have lost their jobs but did not], and are faced with the threat of losing their jobs, no pay raises, etc; while governmental workers [and their jobs] are being """"SAVED""" by Obama/Democrats [with their tax dollars]. GET IT NOW, LEROY???????
Oldefarte| 2.5.10 @ 2:59PM
I meant """"IN THE PUBLIC, NOT PRIVATE SECTOR, above; but I know you understood that!
David| 2.5.10 @ 4:33PM
As much as I hate to admit it, I know of four jobs created by the stimulus bill. Mine and the three people I hired in the last year are all dependent on getting Obama Bucks for a handful of clients in the energy efficiency business.
I was let go from a corporation who is a big supporter of the administration. Big O has even met with my former CEO and called his products "sexy." That corporation has sent hundreds of jobs to India but is still getting a lot of attention from the Prez.
While I will never vote for Obama, I am benefiting from his redistribution of everyone else's wages.
Thank you America.

There's a big difference between 2million and NIL. One of them is close to the mark.
What's the betting it's Brown?
