Pence Takes a Pass

Despite yesterday's Rasmussen poll showing him beating incumbent Indiana Senator Evan Bayh, Rep. Mike Pence announced this morning that will not run for Senate. At this afternoon's bloggers' briefing at The Heritage Foundation, Pence said that this was "easily the most difficult decision of [his] political career," but that he is "absolutely convinced that Republicans will take back Congress in 2010" and he wants to remain part of the House GOP leadership.

I still say that, if he switched to the Senate, the loss of him in the House would be a Republican/conservative wash!!!!

As perhaps Mike Pence's biggest booster in the media, I have to say I am profoundly disappointed. This is Pence acting too much like his idol, Jack Kemp. Kemp was wonderful, but the knock on him was that he would never put himself on the line in order to take on a tough race. He stayed in the House rather than trying to move up. Pence is doing the same. I think he is making a mistake. But I still admire him and am glad he's in office.

If Mike Pence were ever to become he Speaker, he would be much moe valuable to the conservative cause than he would be in the Senate.

I agree with Steve-O in that if the planets align as we hope ,Pence could be the next Speaker of the House...Let us pray ! Maybe when Lugars term is up, perhaps Pence will take over that Senate seat.
