David Plouffe, who recently took on an expanded role as a
Democratic political adviser at the behest of President Obama,
sent an email out this afternoon to promote State of the Union
watching parties to volunteers of Organizing for America.
He writes:
On Wednesday evening, President Obama will deliver his first
State of the Union address. It comes at a critical moment.
We must regroup, refocus, and re-engage on the vital work
ahead. So let's watch it together at a State of the Union Watch
Party in your neighborhood....
We've hit some serious bumps in the road recently in our march
toward change. We always knew it would be difficult, but this
past week has definitely been a hard one, for all of us.
But this movement didn't come so far without making it through
some challenging times. It's at moments like these when we need
you most. People are hurting. Our country is at a crossroads,
and in communities like yours all across America we must all
fight for the progress our families and businesses need to
thrive.
The President's resolve has never been stronger to keep
fighting for health insurance reform, for lasting job creation,
and to rein in the big banks and fight the undue influence of
lobbyists. Wednesday's speech will be a pivotal moment for us
all to get on the same page and continue the fight together.
In just two days, OFA supporters like you will be gathering at
State of the Union Watch Parties in living rooms and community
centers across the country. You can share ideas and experiences
-- and I'll be joining on the phone for a special strategy
huddle before the speech.
This is on par with the Windows 7 parties- the few that host such
events be paid schills with the rest of us laughing at such
hubris. No matter how gullible are, you still have to feel bad
for the kool-aid drinkers.
The whole 'social media' and internet-organized backers' efforts
were definitely a big hand for Obama in his election, but this
smacks of the aforementioned tried-and-failed organized 'cool'
event planning.
'Artificial,' 'trying too hard,' and 'pipe-dream' seem to be more
apt descriptors than 'cool' in efforts like these.

What a relief! I've been desperately seeking to find a life since
Tupperware died. Thanks to Obama, I've finally found people who
will let me into their living rooms again. Maybe this time,
instead of taking shots everytime we hear the word "hope" and
double-shots at the word "change", we can all get tipsy as we
toast "let me be clear" and "it's all Bush's fault" with
double-shots when our brave new Socialist Overlord promises to
keep "fighting." Maybe we'll all get drunk enough that they'll
let me stay for more than an hour! Now, that's hope - that I'll
get a life! Sincerely, Ellie Light

What's the over/under on # of I's in the State of the Union?
Lyle| 1.25.10 @ 8:37PM
Over/under on the I's ... can't be computed! A couple of guys
tried it on the last speech - a shot of booze for every "I, Me,
Mine" ... they all passed out after 3 minutes.
Franklin| 1.25.10 @ 9:12PM
I have this horrid, evil thought - just after he starts the
speech, whenever he blames Bush, talks about what a wonderful job
he's been doing, makes a stupid promise, etc., one Republican
gets up and leaves. How long do you think it would be until all
the Republicans (Independents and disgusted Democrates can join
in, too) are gone?

"....in our march toward change. " I just don't like the ring of

I agree, Colleen, it sounds a little bit Mao-ish to me.
PCC| 1.25.10 @ 9:38PM
Sounds like a lot of fighting going on there.
XkarenX| 1.25.10 @ 10:06PM
Lyle's Ellie Light impersonation takes the cake, I mean
"pie...sweet potato pie...coconut cream pie...lemon meringue
pie...pie"! Sorry I'll have to miss the birkenstock wonderfulness
of the OFA house parties and watch our dear leader with
significant other at home. (My cute little brown shirt won't be
back from the cleaners by Wednesday).

Boy wonder exhortation to party members.
Yeah- let's all follow the lead of Thelma and Louise.
LOL.

I had a watch the Massachusetts returns party last week, invited
all the democrats I knew in my neighborhood to watch on my TV.
Today, some of my wife's silver is missing and we found
somebody's dirty underwear in our bed when we went to bed.

David Pouffe:
"We've hit some serious bumps in the road recently in our march

Martha Coakley,
Jon Corzine,
Creigh Deeds,
Health care,
unemployment,
Just to name a few.
Some the ran over, some they tripped over.
In any event, let's show the right road:
OUT OF TOWN!

Watching paint dry would be time better spent.

Yeah at least you'd have a freshly painted room.

Memo to Plouffe:
See if you can resurrect that old song, it would make great
background music for the Straits of the Union message.
Someone's rockin' my dreamboat
Disturbin' a beautiful dream
We were sailin' along,
So peaceful and calm
Suddenly, somethin' went wrong.. . .
Inge| 1.26.10 @ 5:09AM
I can't believe Plouffe can write this bs with a straight face!
The audicity, and lies are just mindboggling, and actually
insulting to those of us who are not subscriving to the 'herd
mentality'. That's so 1933!!!

Oh yes, I'll be heading to a community center in my neighborhood
near me to see "The One" deliver yet another pontificating, dull,
over-rated, teleprompter-driven speech. We'll play a drinking
game - a shot after each time Obama says "I" and/or "me" or
blames Bush. (UGH!) That "bump" in the road, BTW, is the will of
the American people - it's not to be trifled with, sir.
Becky| 1.26.10 @ 8:40AM
I wonder if David will be dressed up in his old cheerleading
outfit? What is the official cheer this year....."more of the
same, Bush is to blame?"
They don't realize that their supporters have short attention
spans and are already on their the bash Obama train.
Being a tea partier is cooler now than a hope and change tear
jerker event. Tea party anger is more righteous sounding than the
indignation the President seems to be dishing out. Everyone
cheers for Davy, not Goliath. The president transformed from Davy
to Golaiath a year ago, and doesn't seem to know it.
Oh, yes, Plouffe - I'm organizing a watching party all right --
for I do love comedy. And every time Obama says some dumb or mush
filled piffle we shall laugh our silly heads off. If I knew where
an "approved" watching site would be perhaps I would go just to
share the comedy. For laughter is worth a million bucks, and we
are for sharing the wealth, sir. Hahahaha! There, that's my tax
on the laughter that you levied.
Number Six| 1.26.10 @ 9:25AM
Hey Ploufe. Those things weren't speed bumps. The bumps were
people that Obama has thrown under the bus.
Smurfmom| 1.26.10 @ 10:34AM
Don't forget to all shout out the Joe Wilson cheer, "You lie!"
I'm just so honored that Ellie Light actually moved once again to
be able to comment here. What a gal!
Tim| 1.26.10 @ 10:41AM
Obama may yet roll out a few surprises in his speech, like maybe
a back room deal to pass that blasted health bill.
