Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a press conference today said that there
weren't enough votes in the House to pass the Senate health care
bill, dealing another blow to the prospects that Democrats can
pass comprehensive legislation.
"I don't see the votes for it at this time," Pelosi said. "The
members have been very clear in our caucus about the fact that
they didn't like it before it had the Nebraska provision and
some of the other provisions that are unpalatable to them."
"In every meeting that we have had, there would be nothing to
give me any thought that that bill could pass right now the way
that it is," she said. "There isn't a market right now for
proceeding with the full bill unless some big changes are
made."
She also said, "We're not in a big rush. Pause. Reflect upon what
the possibilities are. We always have to go where we can build
consensus."
While she said, "We have to get a bill passed -- we know that.
That's a predicate that we all subscribe to," she didn't outline
a path to passage.
Josh Marshall's
interpretation: "In other words, plug pulled. Health care
reform over."

Mr. Klein,
please keep in mind that her words today are no more sane than
her words on any other day of her career.
The woman is a wealthy whack job. Always has been...at least
since her marriage???
Thanks for the chuckle though.

That exocet was way too close. Thank God for the Scud missile
called Brown. Nevertheless, too soon to take off the hard
hats.... Obama believes in extending worldwide & making it
easier to 'terminate' unborn innocents and get other people to
finance the killing..... if you can do that you've probably got
more nasty surprises in your tool box.

"Thank God for the Scud missle called Brown." The Scud is a
surface-to-surface missle, not an intercepter. I think the missle
you want is the Patriot, which is even more appropos, don't you
think?

So the Left blogesphere will go ballistic. But, it looks like
Pelosi and Reid will take the heat and not the President. I can
just see the talking points: Pelosi hadn't the guts to ram the
thing through; Pelosi lets her President and her party down....
Of course, the small GOP minority will also be blamed. By the end
of Feb, the Left will concoct a narrative that paints the GOP
minority as powerfull obstructionists who expertly manipulated
the Dems. And who knows, they may even blame everything on Karl
Rove and Dick Cheney.

The Democrats still haven't given up. They are talking about the
Senate passing a "corrections" bill by budget reconciliation
(only 51 votes needed - no filibusters), and then the House
passes both of them.
In other words Pelosi might be able to get 218 votes for the two
bills combined. Until the Democrats give up on that hope, Obama
Care isn't dead.

Pelosi also said, "We're not in a big rush..."
Those are the key words. They gave up.
Health care is on the back burner now. All the momentum they had,
and a bill they thought was a few weeks from signing, is gone.

Dick Morris said the dems have the votes in the House to pass
ObamaCare; arm-twisting is going to take a while.
Some are just going to have to walk the plank--watch and see.
Siegfried X| 1.21.10 @ 6:42PM
Morris is full of it, as usual. Once negotiations open up again
then the Dems don't have any votes at all -- no one signs on
until they see the new deal.
It's ridiculous for Morris to think he can count votes better
than Pelosi or the Democratic representative who said there are
less than 100 votes in favor of the Senate bill.
Pelosi has been twisting arms for days and today she admitted
that she can't get there by arm twisting. She's not going to try
either -- she wants the Senate to compromise, not for her house
to just cave in.
Patriot| 1.21.10 @ 7:17PM
What's ridiculous is that you think you know better than an
insider like Morris--how much are you paid for your on-air
opinions? Nothing? I thought so and that's exactly what your
posts are worth, nimrod.
