McConnell Vindicated

Mitch McConnell, as much as anyone, has a right to feel vindicated today. It was the case he brought against McCain-Feingold, which he lost then, that now has been reconsidered so that his position mostly won:

McConnell Statement on Citizens United

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following statement Thursday regarding the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Citizens United case:

“For too long, some in this country have been deprived of full participation in the political process. With today’s monumental decision, the Supreme Court took an important step in the direction of restoring the First Amendment rights of these groups by ruling that the Constitution protects their right to express themselves about political candidates and issues up until Election Day. By previously denying this right, the government was picking winners and losers. Our democracy depends upon free speech, not just for some but for all.”

Excellent! Thank you, Mitch McConnell. I for one appreciate you.

I'd say we've had a pretty good week so far!

And, Sen. McConnell, thanks for holding the wayward Republicans together in order to fight health care reform. I think your steadfastness in doing that caused ole Harry Reid to do some really dumb things (like buy off Nelson, Landrieu etc., and the union deal for "cadillac" plans). Those things totally ticked off Americans -- even those in liberal MA know what's right/wrong, fair/out of bounds, legal/illegal, constitutional/unconstitutional.
