Quinnipiac: Independents Oppose HC bill By More Than 2-to-1 Margin

As President Obama huddles with top Congressional Democrats in closed door talks to hammer out a final bill, a new Quinnipiac poll finds that Americans are more opposed to health care legislation than ever before.

Overall, Americans “mostly disapprove” of the health care bill by a 34 percent to 54 percent margin. But a deeper look at the numbers is worse for Democrats. Among independents, just 29 percent approve of the bill, compared to 59 percent who are opposed.

The major provisions of the legislation, the supporters argue, are meant to help lower and middle-income Americans. But according to this poll, just 36 percent of those earning less than $50,000 approve of the legislation, compared to 48 percent who disapprove of it.
