I just hope you supporters of Brown, once he is elected,
remember your support when you're calling him RINO (or worse)
That would be Massachusetts Senate candidate Scott Brown,
whose online
"money-bomb" fundraiser Monday reportedly
raised $1.3 million. In the interest of clarifying why many
pro-Palin conservatives are enthusiastically supporting an
un-Palin candidate like Brown, consider the following arguments:
Wresting Ted Kennedy's former seat from the Democrats would
be a major coup for Republicans, contributing to the clear
evidence of an anti-Obama backlash represented by the New Jersey
and Virginia gubernatorial victories in November.
The situation in Massachusetts is quite unlike
last year's congressional election in New York's 23rd
District, where the state GOP hand-picked liberal
Republican Dede Scozzafava when (a) district voters clearly
would have supported a more conservative candidate; (b) the
state GOP passed over more conservative candidates to choose
Scozzafava; and (c) a viable third-party candidate presented a
valid alternative to the Republican.
The label "RINO" (Republican In Name
Only) functions appropriately as an epithet when
it is reserved for those Republicans who either (a) provide
crucial votes for liberal policies in key legislative battles,
such as the eight House Republicans who
voted for the Waxman-Markey energy tax
bill; (b) consistently position themselves
as prominent advocates for liberal policies; or (c) attack
conservatives in the manner of John McCain's February 2000
"agents
of intolerance" speech.
In the case of Sarah Palin and her critics among the
conservative punditocracy, it is one thing to point out Palin's
specific faults, errors and weaknesses. All politicians make
mistakes and even
Ronald Reagan's admiring biographer Craig Shirley
has in retrospect noted the Gipper's own weaknesses.
It is another thing entirely to assert, as
many of Palin's critics have consistently done, that
Palin's populist appeal exemplifies everything that is wrong
with the Republican Party.
Therefore, despite Brown's centrist politics, the pro-Palin
populists support his Massachusetts Senate campaign because
(a) Brown's election would not be a leftward shift of
either the national debate or the GOP; (b) his election
would validate perceptions of a rising conservative mood among
voters; and (c) if elected, Brown would go to Washington with the
knowledge of his indebtedness to grassroots conservatives.
Arguments between elitists and populists are inevitable, but
there is no cause for an argument here -- unless those effete
intellectual snobs want to start one, in which case I'm sure
the real Americans are ready to duke it out.
@Ran, I volunteered on Ron Paul's campaign for months, and voted
for him in the General. I consider myself more "classically
Republican" than Scott Brown and certainly more Republican than
John McCain. But in light of Scott Brown's ability to kill
Obamacare before it kills people like my elderly parents, I'm
willing to vote for him. Purity tests and discriminatory ballot
access laws (written by Democrats and Republicans) have all but
guaranteed a Libertarian cannot be elected to national office. So
I'm taking a page from the socialists' playbook--I'm voting for
creeping libertarianism in the same way the statists have voted
for creeping socialism. Given that the deck is fundamentally
stacked against third parties, I'm forced to support a strategy
of incrementalism. That's how we got where we are today. In this
race, at least, I'm not willing to cut off my nose to spite my
face. The stakes are too high.

" it is one thing to point out Palin's specific faults, errors

Nothing wrong with Palin, except that men control women too much;
in fact as long as men are men they will use violence to do
so.
You think I'm progressive? if only that were so; but social
(political) progress is finished for now.
JP| 1.12.10 @ 8:47AM
Here's my problem with Palin:
1)She should have remained at home with her infant children
instead of accepting a national position that most certainly
invaded her family's privacy. If conservative/traditional types
have no problem with her doing that, then they are not quite as
conservative as they think they are. Maggie Thatcher's children
were out of the house when she ran for PM.
2)If extorting money from energy companies and redistributing
that money is conservative economics the GOP is doomed. This is
what Palin did in Alaska.
3)Palin in 2010 is like JFK in 1960 -not ready for Prime Time.
The difference is, Palin doesn't have Joe Kennedy as a father
,RFK as a brother, and a fawning press corps. There is more to
being President than giving a great stump speech (Obama is
finding this out).
4)Palin stands out so well because on the national level the GOP
is so weak. Palin is willing to take political risks to
differentiate herself from the current pack of weaklings (Romney,
the Huckster, Pawlenty, Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich). Let's face it,
Palin is more manly then the men.
I will say this in her favor. She does show a remarkable ability
to withstand some of the most vile gossip. I can't even remember
Reagan getting hit so hard from so many directions. The filth
thrown on Palin was without precedent (adultery, incest, etc...).
The fact that she is till out there amongst the gutter snipes is
quite remarkable. However, as a mother of small children, her
first duty is to her family and not her ambitions.
Palin will run as an independent and split the
conservative-libertarian-evangelical vote. Obama will win in 2012
with less than 40% of the electorate if that occurs.
Bob| 1.12.10 @ 9:04AM
Let's see, we now find out Palin didn't know that North and South
Korea were two different countries, didn't know why we fought WWI
and WWII, and didn't know the basic functions of the Fed. This is
what happens when you don't read newspapers and don't study
history. The only reason most of you like her is her social
conservatism. That's what we need, a religious fanatic in the
White House....
I support Brown as a fiscal conservative because huge programs
like the health care bill will not solve our country's problems.
And yes, RSM, I am a proud RINO -- i.e., fiscal conservative and
social libertarian/atheist. And I cannot support idiots like
Palin even if I might agree with her on some issues.
JP| 1.12.10 @ 9:39AM
Bob,
I wouldn't quite call her a religious fanatic. And I seriously
doubt that she didn't know about both World Wars. Those
accusations are just hyperbole. I'm not a Palin fan, but I won't
go out trash her. If you really listen to her, she's fairly
mainstream, but she uses boilerplate rhetoric in order to
a)seperate herself from the pack and b)attract the grassroots
conservatives that any national GOP politician needs to have.
From what I read about her performance as govenor, she is fairly
mainstream, but not exactly conservative.
Brown, on the other hand, comes from a very liberal state. It
would certainly be foolish to expect him to run as a social
conservative. However, I think most people have no problem
supporting him. He comes off as an economic libertarian which is
far more than we should hope for. Yesterday he received over $1
million via the internet, which indicates many Republicans
outside of Mass. are attracted to his policies.
Bob| 1.12.10 @ 9:49AM
JP, she knew that WWI and WWII existed, but she didn't know who
fought on either side and how they started. We know that now from
Steve Schmidt directly during her debate prep. So those
accusations are NOT hyperbole. This information just came out and
was confirmed by her campaign staff.
Alan Brooks| 1.12.10 @ 10:33AM
"Obama will win in 2012 with less than 40% of the electorate if

Obama will win no matter what.

think that?
Ken (Old Texican)| 1.12.10 @ 10:30AM
JP,
I can sympathize with your thoughts that maybe Sarah should spend
more time at home.
Conversely, many many moms go to work each day outside their
homes. So did a zillion farm wives in centuries past...out in the
garden...but with an extended family and good dad for support
structure.
Sarah is fortunate to have that kind of family.
Extorting oil companies? NO! Texas does much the same thing, only
here, those "separation fees" go to our State treasury and are
utilized for State infrastructure and education.
Sarah just went one step further and returned those fees right
back to Alaska's citizens.
I truly think Sarah's "ambitions" are for her country in which
her family will live.
I may be wrong, but the only way I can see Sarah running (and
loosing) as a third party candidate is to rebuke Republicans in
congress...if in fact they can take it back...and go squishy and
let the communists (pardon the shorthand), continue to run
circles around we the people.
Sarah| 1.12.10 @ 11:36AM
Why, oh why is it always the WOMAN who is dinged about the
children in the house? Obama has children that are young. Yet he
isn't told that he should have kept them out of the political
limelight. Okay for the men, but never, EVER okay for the women.
I call horse pockey on that.
While I agree with some of your assessments, on this one, you are
DEAD WRONG.
lia| 1.12.10 @ 7:42PM

I still believe Palin will dump Barry Soetoro in three years.
Why? Because Palin in 100% an American patriot instead of an
"intellectual" who obfuscated his background and his real
ambivalence about our country.
Palin deeply wants the US to be number one in the important areas
- Barry is purposefully trying to bring our country down a step
or two, in order be more liked by foreigners, who naturally want
the US to be downgraded, to make themselves feel better and to
laugh at us.
Bob| 1.12.10 @ 9:27AM
Do "patriots" quit their jobs when they get too tough? Do
"patriots" think that North and South Korea are one country? Do
"patriots" not know any of the cases decided by the Supreme
Court? If you want everyone to laugh at us, just support Palin...
rssg| 1.12.10 @ 11:05AM
Bob, your boy is the White House did the following:
- Purposefully obfuscated his background, to cover up numerous
associations (family and friends) who are stridently
anti-American, communist, anarchist, etc.
- Has ZERO business experience.
- Has ZERO military experience.
- Led a pampered life, going to expensive private schools and
exhibits real elitism everytime he speaks.
That's why the public has turned on him so quickly. This chimp is
a one term wonder.
rssg| 1.12.10 @ 11:14AM
Bob - I don't need nor want an "intellectual" in the White House.
Much prefer someone who actually has worked in her (his) life.
Someone with a real middle class life.
I don't look to idolize politicians; I want them to SHRINK the
state, lessen regulations, lower immigration, keep a strong
national defense and let people keep their money and do what they
please. Politicians are whores and I don't give my money to
whores. Leave me alone is what I say to politicians, which is the
best American tradition.
freeta goodholm| 1.12.10 @ 10:54PM

Bob| 1.12.10 @ 9:30AM
And we now also have confirmation that Palin is a liar. She told
her campaign to lie about Todd's registration with the Alaska
Independent Party. This has been confirmed from several sources
directly and is not hearsay. But I guess as long as she is a
social conservative, lying is just fine....
Alan Brooks| 1.12.10 @ 10:15AM
You cannot be in politics without lying.
Sarah isn't a nun.
Alan Brooks| 1.12.10 @ 10:28AM
In the secular world there are no genuine ethics.
Palin is no worse than any other politician, Bob.
Her main flaw is her glasses make her look like a skoolmarm-- she
is very attractive otherwise. Now that she is wealthy, can't she
arrange for lasik?
Bob| 1.12.10 @ 10:35AM
Of course there are "ethics" in a secular world. The main reason
for secular ethics is that if you are caught doing something
wrong, you've ruined your future. This is also true in the
religious world. How many Christian leaders have lied about their
sexual activities? Lying is both secular and human.
Alan Brooks| 1.12.10 @ 10:41AM
NO ethics in secular politics-- not sincere ethics.
You mean rules, not ethics, Bob. All we have are situational
ethics, which are merely
loose rules dandied up as ethics.
Bob| 1.12.10 @ 10:31AM
Actually, politicians learn to "shade" the truth, not to pursue
outright lies. The fact that Palin does not have a moral problem
with outright lies is a huge issue. Another technique is to
promise something they probably cannot deliver. All politicians
do that. But it has now been shown that Sarah had a real problem
with the truth. In other words, should would say anything to get
elected -- anything. I cannot believe sentient beings would still
support her...
Alan Brooks| 1.12.10 @ 10:44AM
It is a woman's prerogative to lie, Bob.
Wait until you get to Heaven, then you can know truth. On earth
you are free-falling in nihilism.
Siegfried X| 1.12.10 @ 9:39AM
If we could count on Brown voting against health care and other
liberal programs, it would mean that he's not a RINO. On the
other hand if Brown is elected with conservative support, then
gives Obama the 60th vote for health care, that would show why a
lot of conservatives have walked away from the Republican Party.
A politician who votes like a Democrat is a Democrat, aka a RINO.
After all John McCain did exactly that, give Democrats the vote
they needed to pass liberal legislation. He did it again and
again and again and yet somehow became the Republican candidate
for president.
Alan Brooks| 1.12.10 @ 10:21AM

want to believe in some mystical creature in the sky, that is
your right -- just don't force your beliefs on me. I believe in
individual liberty, so if two women want to marry, that is their
business. If a women wants an abortion, that is her business. In
addition, I want the government out of our lives as much as
possible. Understand that you, wanting to force your beliefs on
me, are the bigot in this discussion.
Ran| 1.12.10 @ 12:38PM
Hey RT,
Bob... Ought to be more careful with his lies
about Palin. His mischaracterization of her as a "religious
fanatic", for example, is dishonest because not only is she
understated in her personal religious expression, but because she
is outspoken in her tolerance and support for the faiths of
others. Bob knows this, yet so do we.
He knows full well that his comrades in Alaska were bankrupting
the Palins - personally bankrupting them - with many proven
false allegations of corruption. He's not, apparently,
clued-in that we, too, know it.
Bob has quite the history around here as a

This BS concerning Palin is getting ridiculous. She has her good
points and bad points like anyone else. She also has intellect,
which is sorely missing among many liberals and quite a few
"republicans". Don't you people understand that she actually a
uniting force on the right, a focal point? She probably won't win
any elections nationally but she sure damn well will direct the
troops in the battle to victory. The biggest obstacle we have to
overcome is the intellectually snobbish posters on the "right"
who believe that a woman is not only incapable of intelligent
thought but should stay out of politics completely. We're going

postings.
Bob| 1.12.10 @ 1:27PM

SoCon| 1.12.10 @ 3:51PM
Bob, what's Quin got to do with YOUR lies?
Quin Hillyer banned you from his postings because he got sick of
your constant lies and vicious personal attacks (You're the only

Later, you were caught sneaking comments on his postings after
you'd promised you wouldn't. Embarrassing.
REPEATEDLY, you've been caught in bald-faced lies by several

In short, you're an Axelrod troll pretending to be a RINO--and
you are a particularly unpleasant troll at that.
Absolutely nothing recommends you.
Bob| 1.12.10 @ 3:59PM
Again, SoCon, you continue YOUR bigotry and lies. I attacked
Hillyer because of his constant name calling and race baiting. He
has a very thin skin, obviously. And I didn't "sneak" comments on
his blog as there was one time where I agreed with him and said
so -- and that was the ONLY time. I didn't use any other names --
but please don't let facts get in your way. As for other "lies",
what were they? The fact that I remembered being taught that some

JP| 1.12.10 @ 3:30PM
I see your points Pete. But you're making the same arguments that
were made for Bush43. The GOP went head long in its support for
Bush in 1999-2000 ignoring some rather obvious flaws he had as
govenor.
As I posted earlier, support for Palin is strong in many circles
because the national GOP is so weak. I mean the cupboard is bare.
Bob| 1.12.10 @ 4:06PM
One of the reasons the cupboard is bare is the litmus tests of
the religious right. Case in point was Tom Ridge. I would have
voted for him over Obama in a heartbeat. The same is true for
Colin Powell.
SoCon| 1.12.10 @ 4:43PM

Books that Bob specifically mentioned are in Aramaic... in other
words, he LIED. Totally, irretrievably lied. A really
stupid lie, too... so easily exposed.
It would be EXACTLY like claiming that, at the age of 10, he had
translated the Iliad from the original "Latin" or Shakespeare's
sonnets from the original "French."

I'm a Palinista, maybe the biggest in Ohio.
I sent $50 to Brown's campaign.
There is no way I would do that if he were running as say for the
House in District 2 Ohio. Jean Schmidt would still get my money.
We are talking about MA here.
Collectively, if we put Brown in the Senate from MA, instead of
Coakley, we in effect move slightly the average Conservative
rating of the Senate more to the right.
And, he may vote against Obamacare therefore forcing the Dems to
try to pass it with reconciliation or some other dirty trick such
as not swearing Brown in. Again, that would piss off people in
his state further.
It's a team effort people. Can anybody see Brown voting against a
Supreme Court nominee of say...President Palin? Maybe.
But we damn well know Coakley would be Reid's bit*h in the Senate
just like Gillibrand is the bit*h of Schumer. She'd vote against
any picks by a GOP POTUS.

My advice is make sure you have the time. Blogging chews up time.
My big hobby now is joining or starting a Tea Party group in
northeast Cincinnati. Once that venture takes off, it will suck
most of my time outside of work.
Raymond| 1.14.10 @ 1:31PM
Bob,
You are underestimating the power of a woman. We are both men,
but most of the time, we men can easily be corrupted by single
piece between the legs of a woman. We men cannot accept defeat
because of pride on our heads. Woman, on the other hand, can be
stronger than men in terms of moral principles. I have PhD in
Human Behavior that is why I know the strong points and
weaknesses of both species. A lot of strong women became world's
great leaders: Thatcher, Queen Elizabeth, Joan of Arc, Queen
Esther of Persia, Golda Meir of Israel, President Cory Aquino of
Phils. Golda Meir, a woman, was highly acknowledge in the world
for Israeli victories during the Six days War with arabs governed
by macho man arab leaders. Cory of Phils was able to topple a
Philippine dictator from his 20 year rule. Perhaps, Sarah Palin,
if elected first woman POTUS can be able to make a difference.
Remember this: effective leadership is not measured by being an
intellectual; rather by being proactive with great common sense.
Leader must have great common sense visions
Raymond| 1.14.10 @ 1:39PM
By the way, Bob, further to my comment, the difference between
Obama, Romney, Huckabee and Palin is this: Obama, Huck and Mitt
are reactive leaders. Sarah Palin, like Reagan, is a proactive
leader. Sarah Palin has visions and can anticipate good and bad
things in the future. Obama and Mitt Romney lack this kind of
quality as a leader. Sarah Palin has high common sense skills and
that is why she was able to govern Alaska with effectiveness.
Learn from me: I was there in Alaska for the past 10 years, and I
knew the reality there.

Look, it's not "centrist" or "moderate" policies Brown holds. It's "muddled" policy. He's into Tyranny Lite™.
Your final point about Brown, (c) is valid too, but beware the stale date.
Kathleen| 1.12.10 @ 6:57AM
@Ran, I volunteered on Ron Paul's campaign for months, and voted for him in the General. I consider myself more "classically Republican" than Scott Brown and certainly more Republican than John McCain. But in light of Scott Brown's ability to kill Obamacare before it kills people like my elderly parents, I'm willing to vote for him. Purity tests and discriminatory ballot access laws (written by Democrats and Republicans) have all but guaranteed a Libertarian cannot be elected to national office. So I'm taking a page from the socialists' playbook--I'm voting for creeping libertarianism in the same way the statists have voted for creeping socialism. Given that the deck is fundamentally stacked against third parties, I'm forced to support a strategy of incrementalism. That's how we got where we are today. In this race, at least, I'm not willing to cut off my nose to spite my face. The stakes are too high.

" it is one thing to point out Palin's specific faults, errors and weaknesses. All politicians make mistakes "
Nothing wrong with Palin, except that men control women too much; in fact as long as men are men they will use violence to do so.
You think I'm progressive? if only that were so; but social (political) progress is finished for now.
JP| 1.12.10 @ 8:47AM
Here's my problem with Palin:
1)She should have remained at home with her infant children instead of accepting a national position that most certainly invaded her family's privacy. If conservative/traditional types have no problem with her doing that, then they are not quite as conservative as they think they are. Maggie Thatcher's children were out of the house when she ran for PM.
2)If extorting money from energy companies and redistributing that money is conservative economics the GOP is doomed. This is what Palin did in Alaska.
3)Palin in 2010 is like JFK in 1960 -not ready for Prime Time. The difference is, Palin doesn't have Joe Kennedy as a father ,RFK as a brother, and a fawning press corps. There is more to being President than giving a great stump speech (Obama is finding this out).
4)Palin stands out so well because on the national level the GOP is so weak. Palin is willing to take political risks to differentiate herself from the current pack of weaklings (Romney, the Huckster, Pawlenty, Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich). Let's face it, Palin is more manly then the men.
I will say this in her favor. She does show a remarkable ability to withstand some of the most vile gossip. I can't even remember Reagan getting hit so hard from so many directions. The filth thrown on Palin was without precedent (adultery, incest, etc...). The fact that she is till out there amongst the gutter snipes is quite remarkable. However, as a mother of small children, her first duty is to her family and not her ambitions.
Palin will run as an independent and split the conservative-libertarian-evangelical vote. Obama will win in 2012 with less than 40% of the electorate if that occurs.
Bob| 1.12.10 @ 9:04AM
Let's see, we now find out Palin didn't know that North and South Korea were two different countries, didn't know why we fought WWI and WWII, and didn't know the basic functions of the Fed. This is what happens when you don't read newspapers and don't study history. The only reason most of you like her is her social conservatism. That's what we need, a religious fanatic in the White House....
I support Brown as a fiscal conservative because huge programs like the health care bill will not solve our country's problems. And yes, RSM, I am a proud RINO -- i.e., fiscal conservative and social libertarian/atheist. And I cannot support idiots like Palin even if I might agree with her on some issues.
JP| 1.12.10 @ 9:39AM
Bob,
I wouldn't quite call her a religious fanatic. And I seriously doubt that she didn't know about both World Wars. Those accusations are just hyperbole. I'm not a Palin fan, but I won't go out trash her. If you really listen to her, she's fairly mainstream, but she uses boilerplate rhetoric in order to a)seperate herself from the pack and b)attract the grassroots conservatives that any national GOP politician needs to have. From what I read about her performance as govenor, she is fairly mainstream, but not exactly conservative.
Brown, on the other hand, comes from a very liberal state. It would certainly be foolish to expect him to run as a social conservative. However, I think most people have no problem supporting him. He comes off as an economic libertarian which is far more than we should hope for. Yesterday he received over $1 million via the internet, which indicates many Republicans outside of Mass. are attracted to his policies.
Bob| 1.12.10 @ 9:49AM
JP, she knew that WWI and WWII existed, but she didn't know who fought on either side and how they started. We know that now from Steve Schmidt directly during her debate prep. So those accusations are NOT hyperbole. This information just came out and was confirmed by her campaign staff.
Alan Brooks| 1.12.10 @ 10:33AM
"Obama will win in 2012 with less than 40% of the electorate if that occurs."
Obama will win no matter what.
a BLACK INCUMBENT can't be re-elected?-- could anyone really think that?
Ken (Old Texican)| 1.12.10 @ 10:30AM
JP,
I can sympathize with your thoughts that maybe Sarah should spend more time at home.
Conversely, many many moms go to work each day outside their homes. So did a zillion farm wives in centuries past...out in the garden...but with an extended family and good dad for support structure.
Sarah is fortunate to have that kind of family.
Extorting oil companies? NO! Texas does much the same thing, only here, those "separation fees" go to our State treasury and are utilized for State infrastructure and education.
Sarah just went one step further and returned those fees right back to Alaska's citizens.
I truly think Sarah's "ambitions" are for her country in which her family will live.
I may be wrong, but the only way I can see Sarah running (and loosing) as a third party candidate is to rebuke Republicans in congress...if in fact they can take it back...and go squishy and let the communists (pardon the shorthand), continue to run circles around we the people.
Sarah| 1.12.10 @ 11:36AM
Why, oh why is it always the WOMAN who is dinged about the children in the house? Obama has children that are young. Yet he isn't told that he should have kept them out of the political limelight. Okay for the men, but never, EVER okay for the women. I call horse pockey on that.
While I agree with some of your assessments, on this one, you are DEAD WRONG.
lia| 1.12.10 @ 7:42PM

rssg| 1.12.10 @ 9:15AM
I still believe Palin will dump Barry Soetoro in three years. Why? Because Palin in 100% an American patriot instead of an "intellectual" who obfuscated his background and his real ambivalence about our country.
Palin deeply wants the US to be number one in the important areas - Barry is purposefully trying to bring our country down a step or two, in order be more liked by foreigners, who naturally want the US to be downgraded, to make themselves feel better and to laugh at us.
Bob| 1.12.10 @ 9:27AM
Do "patriots" quit their jobs when they get too tough? Do "patriots" think that North and South Korea are one country? Do "patriots" not know any of the cases decided by the Supreme Court? If you want everyone to laugh at us, just support Palin...
rssg| 1.12.10 @ 11:05AM
Bob, your boy is the White House did the following:
- Purposefully obfuscated his background, to cover up numerous associations (family and friends) who are stridently anti-American, communist, anarchist, etc.
- Has ZERO business experience.
- Has ZERO military experience.
- Led a pampered life, going to expensive private schools and exhibits real elitism everytime he speaks.
That's why the public has turned on him so quickly. This chimp is a one term wonder.
rssg| 1.12.10 @ 11:14AM
Bob - I don't need nor want an "intellectual" in the White House. Much prefer someone who actually has worked in her (his) life. Someone with a real middle class life.
I don't look to idolize politicians; I want them to SHRINK the state, lessen regulations, lower immigration, keep a strong national defense and let people keep their money and do what they please. Politicians are whores and I don't give my money to whores. Leave me alone is what I say to politicians, which is the best American tradition.
freeta goodholm| 1.12.10 @ 10:54PM
Already laughing at you.
Bob| 1.12.10 @ 9:30AM
And we now also have confirmation that Palin is a liar. She told her campaign to lie about Todd's registration with the Alaska Independent Party. This has been confirmed from several sources directly and is not hearsay. But I guess as long as she is a social conservative, lying is just fine....
Her main flaw is her glasses make her look like a skoolmarm-- she is very attractive otherwise. Now that she is wealthy, can't she arrange for lasik?
Bob| 1.12.10 @ 10:35AM
Of course there are "ethics" in a secular world. The main reason for secular ethics is that if you are caught doing something wrong, you've ruined your future. This is also true in the religious world. How many Christian leaders have lied about their sexual activities? Lying is both secular and human.
Alan Brooks| 1.12.10 @ 10:41AM
NO ethics in secular politics-- not sincere ethics.
You mean rules, not ethics, Bob. All we have are situational ethics, which are merely
loose rules dandied up as ethics.
Bob| 1.12.10 @ 10:31AM
Actually, politicians learn to "shade" the truth, not to pursue outright lies. The fact that Palin does not have a moral problem with outright lies is a huge issue. Another technique is to promise something they probably cannot deliver. All politicians do that. But it has now been shown that Sarah had a real problem with the truth. In other words, should would say anything to get elected -- anything. I cannot believe sentient beings would still support her...
Alan Brooks| 1.12.10 @ 10:44AM
It is a woman's prerogative to lie, Bob.
Wait until you get to Heaven, then you can know truth. On earth you are free-falling in nihilism.
Siegfried X| 1.12.10 @ 9:39AM
If we could count on Brown voting against health care and other liberal programs, it would mean that he's not a RINO. On the other hand if Brown is elected with conservative support, then gives Obama the 60th vote for health care, that would show why a lot of conservatives have walked away from the Republican Party. A politician who votes like a Democrat is a Democrat, aka a RINO.
After all John McCain did exactly that, give Democrats the vote they needed to pass liberal legislation. He did it again and again and again and yet somehow became the Republican candidate for president.
Alan Brooks| 1.12.10 @ 10:21AM

As for being a religious "bigot", if you want to believe in some mystical creature in the sky, that is your right -- just don't force your beliefs on me. I believe in individual liberty, so if two women want to marry, that is their business. If a women wants an abortion, that is her business. In addition, I want the government out of our lives as much as possible. Understand that you, wanting to force your beliefs on me, are the bigot in this discussion.
Ran| 1.12.10 @ 12:38PM
Hey RT,
Bob... Ought to be more careful with his lies about Palin. His mischaracterization of her as a "religious fanatic", for example, is dishonest because not only is she understated in her personal religious expression, but because she is outspoken in her tolerance and support for the faiths of others. Bob knows this, yet so do we.
He knows full well that his comrades in Alaska were bankrupting the Palins - personally bankrupting them - with many proven false allegations of corruption. He's not, apparently, clued-in that we, too, know it.
Bob has quite the history around here as a proven and admonished liar. Check the links, scroll down.

good post, Other Mac.
"The label "RINO" (Republican In Name Only) functions appropriately as an epithet when it is reserved for those Republicans who either (a) provide crucial votes for liberal policies in key legislative battles, such as the eight House Republicans who voted for the Waxman-Markey energy tax bill;"
That is the key. If Brown wins but fails to vote to kill Obamacare or any slightly re-touched version thereof, will be be pilloried as a RINO in the Specter/McCain/Grahamnesty mode.

This BS concerning Palin is getting ridiculous. She has her good points and bad points like anyone else. She also has intellect, which is sorely missing among many liberals and quite a few "republicans". Don't you people understand that she actually a uniting force on the right, a focal point? She probably won't win any elections nationally but she sure damn well will direct the troops in the battle to victory. The biggest obstacle we have to overcome is the intellectually snobbish posters on the "right" who believe that a woman is not only incapable of intelligent thought but should stay out of politics completely. We're going to win in spite of your intereference. So go back to your useless postings.
Bob| 1.12.10 @ 1:27PM
Perhaps you have examples of her "intellect". She couldn't even write her own book! Perhaps it is her knowledge of Supreme Court decisions or the function of the fed. Perhaps you can show me a treatise on some subject matter including original through the a good bibliography. Maybe you can show me how well she did in school not withstanding her admitted "D" in economics. Please, show me her intellect...

SoCon, I've never lied, and the links prove that. But then again, you religious fanatics call everyone who doesn't agree with you, liars. SoCon| 1.12.10 @ 3:51PM
Bob, what's Quin got to do with YOUR lies?
Quin Hillyer banned you from his postings because he got sick of your constant lies and vicious personal attacks (You're the only blogger he's EVER banned).
Later, you were caught sneaking comments on his postings after you'd promised you wouldn't. Embarrassing.
REPEATEDLY, you've been caught in bald-faced lies by several bloggers: Notably, Ran and Nick from Detroit.
In short, you're an Axelrod troll pretending to be a RINO--and you are a particularly unpleasant troll at that.
Absolutely nothing recommends you.
Bob| 1.12.10 @ 3:59PM
Again, SoCon, you continue YOUR bigotry and lies. I attacked Hillyer because of his constant name calling and race baiting. He has a very thin skin, obviously. And I didn't "sneak" comments on his blog as there was one time where I agreed with him and said so -- and that was the ONLY time. I didn't use any other names -- but please don't let facts get in your way. As for other "lies", what were they? The fact that I remembered being taught that some of the bible was written in biblical Aramaic? Whoopy do! The fact that I misstated the 3/5th clause of the Constitution? Whoopy do! Those are lies?
No wonder you think so much of Palin, you have no critical thinking ability of your own...
Again, YOU are the real bigot here because you could not vote for an atheist. Right????

SoCon| 1.12.10 @ 4:41PM
You're the only one who says so--and your word means jack. On the other hand; numerous AmSpec posters have excoriated you for your lies and bigotry toward believers--including Quin Hillyer. Ugly little man.
JP| 1.12.10 @ 3:30PM
I see your points Pete. But you're making the same arguments that were made for Bush43. The GOP went head long in its support for Bush in 1999-2000 ignoring some rather obvious flaws he had as govenor.
As I posted earlier, support for Palin is strong in many circles because the national GOP is so weak. I mean the cupboard is bare.
Bob| 1.12.10 @ 4:06PM
One of the reasons the cupboard is bare is the litmus tests of the religious right. Case in point was Tom Ridge. I would have voted for him over Obama in a heartbeat. The same is true for Colin Powell.
SoCon| 1.12.10 @ 4:43PM

Ran| 1.12.10 @ 9:28PM
"SoCon, I've never lied, and the links prove that." But they do NOT, thus, the lies are perpetuated.
The insurmountable problem for Bob is that the Five Books were never, ever in Aramaic. Parts of the Torah sh'baal peh - the later commentaries - yes, but not even *one* phrase of the Five Books that Bob specifically mentioned are in Aramaic... in other words, he LIED. Totally, irretrievably lied. A really stupid lie, too... so easily exposed.
It would be EXACTLY like claiming that, at the age of 10, he had translated the Iliad from the original "Latin" or Shakespeare's sonnets from the original "French."

I sent $50 to Brown's campaign.
There is no way I would do that if he were running as say for the House in District 2 Ohio. Jean Schmidt would still get my money.
We are talking about MA here.
Collectively, if we put Brown in the Senate from MA, instead of Coakley, we in effect move slightly the average Conservative rating of the Senate more to the right.
And, he may vote against Obamacare therefore forcing the Dems to try to pass it with reconciliation or some other dirty trick such as not swearing Brown in. Again, that would piss off people in his state further.
It's a team effort people. Can anybody see Brown voting against a Supreme Court nominee of say...President Palin? Maybe.
But we damn well know Coakley would be Reid's bit*h in the Senate just like Gillibrand is the bit*h of Schumer. She'd vote against any picks by a GOP POTUS.

My advice is make sure you have the time. Blogging chews up time.
My big hobby now is joining or starting a Tea Party group in northeast Cincinnati. Once that venture takes off, it will suck most of my time outside of work.

Bob,
You are underestimating the power of a woman. We are both men, but most of the time, we men can easily be corrupted by single piece between the legs of a woman. We men cannot accept defeat because of pride on our heads. Woman, on the other hand, can be stronger than men in terms of moral principles. I have PhD in Human Behavior that is why I know the strong points and weaknesses of both species. A lot of strong women became world's great leaders: Thatcher, Queen Elizabeth, Joan of Arc, Queen Esther of Persia, Golda Meir of Israel, President Cory Aquino of Phils. Golda Meir, a woman, was highly acknowledge in the world for Israeli victories during the Six days War with arabs governed by macho man arab leaders. Cory of Phils was able to topple a Philippine dictator from his 20 year rule. Perhaps, Sarah Palin, if elected first woman POTUS can be able to make a difference. Remember this: effective leadership is not measured by being an intellectual; rather by being proactive with great common sense. Leader must have great common sense visions

By the way, Bob, further to my comment, the difference between Obama, Romney, Huckabee and Palin is this: Obama, Huck and Mitt are reactive leaders. Sarah Palin, like Reagan, is a proactive leader. Sarah Palin has visions and can anticipate good and bad things in the future. Obama and Mitt Romney lack this kind of quality as a leader. Sarah Palin has high common sense skills and that is why she was able to govern Alaska with effectiveness. Learn from me: I was there in Alaska for the past 10 years, and I knew the reality there.
