Very very sad news today from John Boehner's office that his longtime aide Paula Nowakowsi died last night of an apparent heart attack. Paula was only 46. I hadn't seen Paula in years, but I always was tremendously impressed with her, and I liked her a great deal. In "leadership press" meetings during the heady first two years of the Gingrich speakership, she was always both a pro's pro and a delight to be around. I just cannot imagine that she is gone at such a young age.

Top staffers on Capitol Hill all too often get far too little credit, or thanks, for the work they do. Paula was one of the best for a solid 15 years. And she was just a good person, too. May her family be in our prayers and may she know the joy of God's eternal love.

Deeply saddened to hear of the unexpectant death of such a young lady. May God bless and comfort the family and friends.

The sadness felt by all is so difficult to express...May God Rest Paula's Soul and may HE bring comfort to her family. Apparently, God needed another angel and called Paul to be by His side.

I grieve for my friend and colleague. She was the best . A patriot, a great political thinker, a loyal and faithful deputy.
May a loving G-d comfort Michael and her family.
G-d rest this towering soul.

I have had this experience on many occasions unfortunately. I certainly would never purposely try to create a stereotype about asian women, but I am honest when I say that I have never experienced the Potiphars' Wife Syndrome with any race except for Asian women. Further, I have experienced it repeatedly -- even as early as last week!

Someone with whom I work, a native Korean woman, and with whom I simply wanted an honest, respectful friendship, wanted more. I was very careful to make it clear that that was not a good idea. After all, we work together. She immediately began to throw down offensive gestures and hints to other colleagues about her being uncomfortable around me. It was utterly creepy, gross, irresponsible, infantile, and offensive. I will have to deal with her and her disgusting immaturity for some time into the future.

Oh, and then some asian women always like to throw in the fact that it is "creepy" that he likes my culture. (I love that. White men are "creepy" for having positive feelings about asian culture. These are the same people who will malign the same white men for being ignorant about asia if they don't have any knowledge of it. So we are damned if we do, and damned if we don't.) Typical discrimination, implying that only "families" would be eligible for this credit. What defines a family? A man and a woman? Two men? Me and me cat maybe??
