Bad news for the Obama administration and Democrats who want to run the economy.  According to Rasmussen Reports:

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 30% of voters nationwide believe the $787-billion economic stimulus plan has helped the economy. However, 38% believe that the stimulus plan has hurt the economy. This is the first time since the legislation passed that a plurality has held a negative view of its impact.

The number who believe that the stimulus plan has hurt the economy rose from 28% in September, to 31% in October, and 34% in November before jumping to 38% this month. The week after the president signed the bill, 34% said it would help the economy, while 32% said it would hurt.

The Political Class has a much different view than the rest of the county. Ninety percent (90%) of the Political Class believes the stimulus plan helped the economy and not a single Political Class respondent says it has hurt. (See more on the Political Class).

The underlying reason for skepticism about the stimulus plan is that 50% of voters believe increasing government spending is bad for the economy. Just 28% believe that increased government spending helps the economy.

Obviously, the American people have seen through the Obama program.  Now they need to make their views heard on Capitol Hill before the Democratic majority does permanent damage.

Doug, our voices have been heard in DC...but ignored.
Now I am going to ask you a rather dark question.

Don't you think these communists, (pardon the shorthand), have plans all ready to thwart the desires of the majority of productive Americans next fall?
Another.
Do you think the communists expect to lose all power after a mere two years?
I would love to read your column on that.

Dell| 12.26.09 @ 7:55PM

I'm totally convinced - after one survey after another indicates one thing and the government does just as it damned well pleases - that what WE think simply no longer matters. A huge majority of Americans said "we don't want this Obama Care" legislation, but you not only "got it", you got it crammed down your throat in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve!

And when you consider that not ONE Senator (out of 100) had even read the bill before voting on it, you get a strong sense that Washington is as screwed up as Hogan's goat.

A clear example of taxation without representation when those elected to public office totally ignore those who elected them. Is it any wonder than millions want nothing to do with anything related to "government"???

Unfortunately, recall (where it's in place) takes forever, so our only opportunity to correct this problem is on election day. And I, for one, certainly plan on exercising that option with glee next November - and it doesn't matter to me which party. I encourage y'all to do the same.

Franklin| 12.26.09 @ 11:04PM

Don't you thing 2010 will be too late? With ACORN back to work there will be too many Al Frankens "elected" to make a difference.

Don't we need to do something now? What protest can we do now that won't be ignored or marginalized?

Eliminate the taxes you have withdrawn from your paycheck (by increasing the number of dependents on your W2 form). The government won't be able to use that money from now till April 15th. If you're not chicken like I was last April 15th, you can NOT pay those taxes when due.

Get involved in your local Republican precinct meetings to get CONSERVATIVES nominated.

Join your local Tea Party and actually do something to change politics as usual.

Email, call, fax or visit Congress, Obama and the media and their editors (TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, etc.). There seems to be a weakening of the Obama messiah worship in some, let's exploit it.

Hold pro-America, Conservative rallies at local TV stations.

By MAIL cancel your subscription to your local MSM propaganda rag. Tell them why. Note who their advertisers are and send a few of the bigger ones a copy of your cancellation letter (be sure to cc these advertisers on your letter). Tell these advertisers you will not patronize them any longer because they are supporting political propaganda which you object to.

Consider running for local office.

Pray.

Bob| 12.27.09 @ 9:09AM

So, Bandow, the only polls that AmSpec reads are Rasmussen and the only channel you watch is Fox. If you had a perspective on history, you'd know that these polls are tied to the state of the economy, and not the subject matter. If jobs start growing again -- and they will in the first half of 2010 -- these polls will reverse.

The people here may not remember that Reagan had his lowest approval rating in 1983 -- two years after election -- because the economy was lagging from the recession earlier. Jobs are a lagging indicator. But then again, I don't expect knowledge and analysis to reign here at AmSpec.

And for the record, I think the stimulus was mostly wasted money and I don't like Obamacare because it doesn't address the major problem with health care -- i.e., cost. But you need to stop preaching to the uneducated or Republicans/Conservatives will be in a wasteland for a very long time. In the longer term, a reasoned, analytical, and educated response will grow fiscal conservatism. Stupidity will only hurt the cause.

Troll Bob is Back| 12.27.09 @ 10:26AM

Bob was predicting happy times by now during the last year. Not so great yet. This reminds me more of Carter than Reagan. Not a surprise since President Obama is following Carter's recipe and not Reagan's. Bob still is the cheerleader though. What kind of guy cheer leads for raw socialism? A troll who thinks he is quite clever.

"But you need to stop preaching to the uneducated or Republicans/Conservatives will be in a wasteland for a very long time. "

What we really need is to not have the uneducated like 3/5 Bob lecturing their betters. Bob has shown himself to be so stupid on so many topics and yet he comes back with more and more bad advice. He should give his bad advice to the guy he voted for and leave his betters alone. By the way Rasmussen has been a leading indicator for Gallup and others with regard to President Obama's popularity. When we have high unemployment and high inflation his popularity will sink even lower. If one of these terrorists is successful he will sink even lower. I think he'll settle in at about 20% (Bob and his true believing friends). When he is there the knuckle headed Bob will still be making excuses.

Ken (Old Texican)| 12.27.09 @ 10:07AM

Bob, thanks for that.
Every conversation is improved with contrasts.

One example is "white chalk" on a "black board".
Another example is utter "ignorant arrogance" contrasted with "humble growth of understanding."

Your "analyses" have fallen into the "ignorant arrogant" category since the day I ran across your first comment here many months ago.

You remind me of the old joke about the woman telling a man at a party: "You are drunk". He replied of course: "Yes, and in the morning I will be sober, and you will still be ugly."

In the morning...we here will be a little better "educated" because of the essays written here, and the thoughts that are provoked among us in the commentary.
...In the morning, you will still be arrogant...and uneducable.

You never will quite figure out the real problem with the health care bill coup. You will never understand what happened when our counter-coup washes away the filth...one way or another.

I do truly appreciate your efforts to "guide" us into a comfortable slavery, just like the communists in DC plan on doing.
I for one refuse unto death to be "guided" there by arrogant, uneducable idiots, thankyouverymuch.

Bob| 12.27.09 @ 10:21AM

So, Tex, what you are obviously saying is that you refuse to be objective and search for the truth. I've seen YOUR posts for many months now and refuse to be guided by the unanalytical extremists who substitute name calling for history.

If you had really read my posts, you'd notice I have consistently called for term limits because I see little difference between Republicans AND Dems in D.C. But then again, you extremists see what you want to see and rarely do the work to understand reality.

Ken (Old Texican)| 12.27.09 @ 10:48AM

I am an "analytical extremist", thankyouverymuch, and proud of it.
I too believe in term limits. "Screw up and you are fired."
Sadly, too many Americans had in the past accepted the bald-faced lie you just committed to print yet again:
""... little difference between Republicans AND Dems in D.C. But then again, you extremists see what you want to see..."""

I can accurately call Republican politicians a lot of names: lazy...stupid...corrupted...to name a few.

Conversely, they voted unanimously against cap and trade in the House...and death-care in the Senate. They have been no part of this attempted coup.
You sir, are a liar and a coward, and I will tell you so to your face anywhere you choose.
See sir, arrogance can never stand up to personal courage. You communists will lose this fight.

Margie| 12.27.09 @ 11:39AM

Yes indeedee Bob,
You can call a Republicans a lot of names,
BUT!
You CANNOT cal them Socialists, Marxists or Communists.
THAT is the Party you belong to. The Democrat party.

This mislabeled 'stimulus' is nothing but GOVERNMENTAL [TAXPAYER FUNDED] WELFARE, and any ten year old with normal intelligence would be able to figure that out. 90% of this money went to state and local governments to bail out their respective budget imbalances [and specifically to the excessive teacher rolls and or their incompetent school boards]. It amazing that these morons in charge can't determine [or probably don't care] that college educated, professionally experienced former employees [now out of work] WILL NOT have a burning desire to pick up a shovel and rebuild roads,etc!!!!!!!!!!

This is for Bob and all the Society of Stimulatti -- Try this mental exercise Bob:
Take $20 in small bills and put them in your sock drawer (better, borrow the $20);
Wait a month or two;
Reach in and give $3 to a guy across town;
Wait a month more, take out the $17;
Ask your neighbor how to spend the $17;
Lose $5 somewhere unaccountable, like a bar;
Wait a month, spend the remaining $12 as directed by total stranger;
There, you've been stimulated.
See how much better the economy is now?
How clear eh Bob?
(My fellow liberty minded rationalists can try this with any member of the Society of Stimulatti. It's a real eye opener that's for sure.)

oldefarte- Yea but, the college educated underemployed that make a little too much to qualify for the gov redistribution of wealth that are thrown in jail for not being able to afford the new government mandated health scare insurance will. While their sporting their snazzy new orange jumpers. But, not to worry, most of them probably voted for Obama anyway.
