That's what the White House is calling an incident aboard Northwest Airlines Flight 253 today, in which a Nigerian man, who claims to be affiliated with al Qaeda, attempted to set off some sort of explosive device. As usual, details are still a little sketchy; it was initially reported that he set off a firecracker, while current reports say it was something "more complicated."

'An Attempted Act of Terrorism' ? Not Terrorism, but a Man Caused Disaster.

Obama is president. There is no terrorist threat anymore, don't you remember ?

I wonder if he will interrupt his Christmas to tell us to "not jump to any conclusions"...

Pete| 12.25.09 @ 10:14PM

What does he celebrate anyhow? Doubt it is Christmas.

correction: that would be an attempted man caused disaster according to napolitano

poptoy| 12.26.09 @ 2:05AM

An INCIDENT!? Fort Hood>don't jump to conclusions!? Semantics>>you Betcha. Send the Kenyan home in 2012. OoooP's >>I meant to say the Mulatto. Semantics>>you Betcha!!!!!!!!!

Liberal Reader| 12.26.09 @ 3:10PM

poptoy --

You do understand that you are a bigot and an idiot, don't you?

I always wonder if people like you have an awareness of how ludicrous you sound. No one is surprised to see right wing racist nonsense being posted, but the way you do it is even more stupid sounding than the usual.

SoCon| 12.26.09 @ 4:22PM

poptoy sounds like one of your Axelrod astroturf buddies trying to cause trouble again. Nice try, moron; don't you have something better to do?

Liberal Reader| 12.26.09 @ 5:35PM

He sounds more like a Tea Party Birther to me. You chose your friends, SoCon. Now live with them.

SoCon| 12.26.09 @ 5:56PM

poptoy's your friend, dope; that was the point of my prior post. I know you liberals feel excruciating guilt over your racist past (as you should!), but it's time you finally come to terms with your egregious behavior toward Black Americans and take responsibility for your violent actions. Of course, it doesn't ease your shame or your argument when violent liberal SEIU thugs are calling a black conservative racial epithets and beating him to the ground. Liberal, thy name is hypocrite.

Stop trying to blame your bigotry on us; the KKK Kleagle, Senator Robert Byrd, is one of YOU democrats, after all. They're your memories, past and present; you live with them.

Liberal Reader| 12.26.09 @ 6:56PM

Liberals have a "racist past"?

Listen, you dipshit. A liberal is someone who by definition is NOT racist. To be racist is to be anti-liberal, sometimes called "reactionary."

You're confusing the southern Democrats with "liberals." They're NOT the same thing. Clearly you need some basic civics and basic American history.

SoCon| 12.26.09 @ 7:34PM

A democrat is a democrat is a democrat; just ask your fiscally conservative, "PRO-LIFE" Bluedogs. What a joke.

You conveniently didn't address the recent racist violence of your liberal SEIU thugs. Bigot.

Chris| 12.27.09 @ 12:41PM

I was going to reply to liberal reader's foul-mouthed rant, but what's the point? He obviously didn't read my piece, where I addressed the points in his rant, that many Muslim students do not come here to become westernized or to learn about the West's decadent values, or to take American poetry courses, but rather to learn engineering, always it is engineering. Now obviously not every Muslim engineering student is a future terrorist, some study engineering so they can build up the Pakistani war machine, or get oil out of the ground without US engineers' help, whatever, but the point remains, look at the background of the Muslim terrorists for the past 20 years and what do nearly all have in common? Engineering students. Fortunatly, this last guy was a flunky and didn't learn how to engineer his bomb properly.

Occam's Tool| 12.27.09 @ 10:56PM

Liberals and racism: note the complete absence of concern from the Liberals over the "Killing Fields" of Southeast Asia after the Liberals forced us out of Vietnam. I guess the millions killed didn't matter because they weren't white.

I won't go through the fact that 90% of the worst antisemites today are on the Left, not the Right. Come back with snark, and I'll name them.

Finally, "affirmative action," so that all educational accomplishments of Black scholars are now tainted with the "not good enough" brush. (This is patently unfair and untrue, but there it is.)

Yeah, Liberals are racists AND antisemites. I don't need to use profanity to get my point across.

L. Ross| 12.28.09 @ 11:12AM

Libby, Libby, Libby.

Sorry if the truth hurts, but you need to examine your history, and your core values.

Is it racists to judge people by the color of their skin, or the magnitude of their acheivements? If you judge by the color of their skin, (i.e. affirmative action) you are liberal. If you judge by the magnitude of their achievements, (i.e. merit) you are a conservative. Of course, if you think that affirmative action is fair and reasonable, we will just have to agree to disagree, like we do on most things. Regarding the Democratic party and their history of institutionalized racism, (see the Japaneses internment camps of WWII, early KKK [Imperial Wizard Rober Byrd] a vast pattern of lynching, and attacks against marchers for equal rights) it is a disgusting stain on your side, and you should be ashamed of your weak attempt to disassociate the Democratic party from a truthful review of their past.

Regarding the muslim threat to western society, I feel that it is impossible to overstate their vigorous comittment to our destruction. They have money. They take a very long view of history. The only question is when will another devastating attack be successful, and the question for you, Libby, is will you be complicit in that successful attack, or have you done all you can to protect your fellow Americans and your society at large?

martin j smith| 12.26.09 @ 4:08PM

Is this a Democratic plant. This post is idiotic pleeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Hell, they couldn't spin this stuff forever...especially with this idiot screaming it from the rooftops.

(Note they initially tried to cast doubt on his credibility.)

Eric Dondero| 12.26.09 @ 9:28AM

Latest... Obama plans to continue his Hawaii Vacation despite the Muslim Terrorist attack on the US.

Now, if this happened under Bush's watch, and he decided to hang out in Crawford, instead of flying back to DC???

NikFromNYC| 12.26.09 @ 10:43AM

Ti’s not devils make flying machines go, but dirty strippers. We murder for virgin sex in heaven. It sounds odd to YOU, but we take it very seriously, at the Islamic Nut Company.

Chris| 12.26.09 @ 10:50AM

Again, this looks like another instance of a Muslim student studying "engineering" in the West. I did a piece on this for the Spectator a while back. Why don't we just go over to Islamic countries and train them to blow us up?
http://spectator.org/archives/2006/04/25/osama-u
So we know who they are and where they before they even commit the crimes, and still we let them aboard our airplanes? Why do they frisk my 80 year old mother but let Muslim Mechanical Engineering students with ties to Al Qaeda on planes? Any one? Bueller?

Liberal Reader| 12.26.09 @ 5:29PM

Chris --

Certainly you articulate the most ignorant thing I've ever seen posted on this site.

You may actually be the stupidest person I've ever seen write anything for the Spectator. Bar none.

First, dolt, tens of thousands of Muslims study here. This is the result of a concerted program dating back to the 1980s. Nothing could be BETTER for us than to have Muslim exchange students. This students learn American values and return to the their home countries ready to challenge the anti-American bigots and fools there who hold opinions analogous to your own.

Educating Muslims means creating the groundwork for flourishing markets and democratic society in Muslim world. Nothing could be smarter.

And no, you incomparable jackass, terrorists do NOT depend on being educated in America to commit acts of terrorism.

Fucking idiot.

SoCon| 12.26.09 @ 6:03PM

Wow! Foul mouthed little idiot troll must be having a miserable Christmas season now that his precious fascist democrat policies have been soundly rejected by Americans.

Ouch!

How does it feel to be roundly despised by the American people, little Fascist? 2010 is just around the corner. Thank God!

LIberal Reader| 12.26.09 @ 6:57PM

So Con --

There is no such thing as a "fascist democrat."

It's like saying you went fishing and caught a "trout hamster."

Again, by DEFINITION to be a democrat is NOT to be a fascist.

SoCon| 12.26.09 @ 7:36PM

Then just admit it, you're a bunch of fascists. Whatever you morons decide to call yourselves, you and your thuggish policies have been rejected by Americans.

Occam's Tool| 12.27.09 @ 10:58PM

National Socialist Party. Check out the history of the Socialist projects of the Nazis. By the way, Liberal reader, profanity is the last refuge of the incompetent.

Chris| 12.27.09 @ 12:43PM

I was going to reply to liberal reader's foul-mouthed rant, but what's the point? He obviously didn't read my piece, where I addressed the points in his rant, that many Muslim students do not come here to become westernized or to learn about the West's decadent values, or to take American poetry courses, but rather to learn engineering, always it is engineering. Occam's Tool| 12.27.09 @ 11:03PM

Chris--true story coming. I'm Jewish but look Lebanese with a Lebanese last name.

At any rate, sometime in the early 2000s, I was talking with a fellow passenger (he was waiting for a different flight) and I pointed out the following:

"Pal, I look Arab. I play for the other team, but I should be frisked on every flight. But I bet I won't be, and furthermore, I bet that old white lady using a walker will be."

"No way."

"You're on."

As I boarded the plane unfrisked, while they were taking the LOL aside for examination, I looked over and saw my buddy doubled over and gasping.

Merry Christmas, and keep up the good fight.

martin j smith| 12.26.09 @ 11:16AM

I understood that this flight originated in Nigeria--the Amsterdam then NYC. Where was the security --especially in Europe ?

This yet another episode of Islamic connected terror under Obama's watch. His approval numbers are getting bad due to economic reasons
but if there is a successful attack on US soil and interests his approval numbers will be 20-25%--which are the nutjobs who support him.
And even that is far too many.

Liberal Reader| 12.26.09 @ 3:08PM

"Yet another episode" ....

Because we all know Muslims never dared attack the U.S. while George W. Bush was president.

martin j smith| 12.26.09 @ 4:06PM

Obama's appeasement policy is paying off with a constant influx of terrist attempts some successsful some not but on they go. The Islamists just will keep trying till they get one success-I mean a big one. And baby that will lead to 20-25% max approval --at best. You betchya!!!

Liberal Reader| 12.26.09 @ 4:51PM

You're incorrect usage of the word "appeasement" is symptomatic of your general lack of historical understanding. Why not read a book, Martin? Get yourself a little information and for the love of Christ lay off the right wing radio. You sound like a fool.

martin j smith| 12.26.09 @ 5:28PM

There you go again, riding the same name calling insulting empty kind of person you and your ilk are.
Right now the democrat Party and Obama are on a downward slide--but I will bet that if there was a terrori attack on this soil of a large scale--Obama would have an approval rating of 20-25% or less. Liberal Reader keep exposing who are because. I would be 90% of the reader know who you are on this site. And one other thing: offer facts, specific incident or actualy verifyable news stories that demonstrate your point--whatever that may be. It is your responsibility to prove that your side is being successful in preventing terrorism. Good luck with that.

Liberal Reader| 12.26.09 @ 5:33PM

Martin,

Actually, no it's not my "responsibility" to prove any such thing.

The burden of proof falls on the person making the accusation. Jesus, H., Christ. Think a little.

martin j smith| 12.26.09 @ 8:06PM

Assertions on your part are no better than mine. You and I differ thatis a fact. But your attempt at insulting me shows who you are. Adios--its been real--but i think, and here is my assertion--you are wrong.

SoCon| 12.26.09 @ 4:09PM

8 YEARS of the Clintoon presidency (1993 Trade Tower bombing, destruction of 2 American embassies and the Cole bombing) which resulted in hundreds of maimed and dead. Clinton also repeatedly rebuffed Sudan's offers to extradite Bin Laden. (We all know what the old horndog's priorities were at that time, wink wink!).

8 YEARS of Clinton
8 MONTHS of George W.

Which American President was REALLY to blame for September 11, 2001? You be the judge.

Liberal Reader| 12.26.09 @ 4:49PM

SoCon --

When you become an adult, you'll learn -- and it's never an easy lesson -- that sometimes there just is no simple way to lay blame for something like 9.11 on one person. You'll also learn the discipline it requires to live with a little uncertainty and the ability to doubt your own first judgments.

George Bush was president on 9.11, and 8 months is, actually, a pretty long time. But you're right, despite his many attempts to kill Bin Laden (which you leave out of your little historical narrative) Clinton obviously didn't do enough.

SoCon| 12.26.09 @ 6:13PM

Ha ha ha! Reduced to defending the infamous Pervert Prince of the democrat party: Is there no low to which you will not stoop, is there no lie you will not bleat in order to defend the indefensible? You sicken me, you dog. (With apologies to my pooch, Chuckie)

8 YEARS Clinton
8 MONTHS George W.

You be the judge.

Liberal Reader| 12.26.09 @ 6:59PM

I AM being the judge, SoCon, and here's my judgment:

When George Bush was president, this country suffered the worst attack of its history. Bush was president. He has a great deal of responsibility in this matter. But so does Clinton. That's how adults think about these things. You talk like you're in the eighth grade.

SoCon| 12.26.09 @ 7:40PM

Clinton has PRIMARY responsibility, that's precisely why his goon, Sandy "Stuffed 'em in his pants" Burglar stole vital classified docs detailing Clinton's responsibility for 9/11.

Grow up and join the world of adults, moron; you're definitely reality challenged.

billings| 12.26.09 @ 5:13PM

what does Obama being in the office have to do with the attempted atteck. Does he foresee future or could he have personnaly searched the young man himself. I personally do not think Obama is to be blamed for this. Bush was in the office when the Twin towers were attecked, did he do anything to stop it before it happened? I understand that somebody have to take the blame but I do not think its Obama this time, the person responsible have to take the blame for his action, so lets direct the blames to its rightful owner.

Liberal Reader| 12.26.09 @ 5:23PM

Well said, billings.

SoCon| 12.26.09 @ 6:28PM

Well said? Billings can barely spell let alone express himself.

George W. was a valiant Commander in Chief, unlike Clinton who left our country in dire straits. After Clinton's 9/11 disaster, we were never attacked again under George W.

It's just a matter of time before another feckless democrat administration sets our country up for more terrorist attacks. The Fort Hood killings and this incident are just the beginning, unfortunately.

Thomas Jefferson said it best, "The people get the government they deserve."

We tried to warn the country, but it was to no avail; now we shall reap the whirlwind.

Liberal Reader| 12.26.09 @ 7:01PM

Liberal Reader| 12.26.09 @ 9:48PM

Normally I'm not a foul mouth, but there are no decent words to available that are adequate to describe what a dipshit you are. It's not my fault.

As to 2010, go ahead and win. It's a democracy. There's a vote. That's what's great about this country. More power to you.

Obama's "ratings" don't matter a thing to me. I don't care what they are.

What makes you think I'm a "nazi." I'm really curious about this.

To predicate "Nazi" of me I must have some TRAITS in common with what you know about Nazis. What are they? I'd really be interested to hear this.

SoCon| 12.26.09 @ 10:14PM

Friggin' liar. You're a frequent foul mouthed offender; you have been for nearly a year. I remember you when you were Jeremiah and that was at least 8 name changes ago. You used to change your handle after you blew F-Bombs and such--until you were called out on your deceit.

Now, you mouth your filthy, childish verbiage and move on. First time you've lied and tried to deny it, though: You keep getting sleazier and sleazier.

I call you a Nazi because you specialize in lies and misinformation like your propagandist hero, P. Joseph Goebbels. You're the dulcet voiced velvet glove and your fellow fascist thugs in the SEIU are the iron fist. Anything else, you little SOB?

Liberal Reader| 12.26.09 @ 11:50PM

My hero, Goebbels?

What makes you think he's my hero? What basis do you have to make any of these claims?

SoCon| 12.27.09 @ 12:48AM

Liberal Reader| 12.27.09 @ 11:45AM

Occam's Tool| 12.27.09 @ 11:13PM

Such wit, fine sir!

OK, here's something real: under the Obama administration, US intelligence agencies must now use euphemisms to describe terrorists. Fact.

Dr. Nidal Hassan's maniacal ravings were well known within the Army medical community, but no one was willing to put his career on the line to stop him. Fact.

Now this fact you're going to need to take on faith: coming back from NZ, I had two job offers in the US in psychiatry that met my income requests. One was in The Northern Hinterlands of the USA, and the other was at Fort Hood. Thanks to people like Obama, and his "friendship hand extending" cohorts, it was only an accident of fate that kept me from being a statistic. Fact.

In 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008, the number of deaths in the US due to Islamic terrorist incidents was zero. In 2009, it has been in double digits. Fact.

This, Liberal Reader, is how one argues like a civilized person. Grow up.

Good job, SoCon.

You see, Liberal Reader, it is possible to attack

Occam's Tool| 12.27.09 @ 11:17PM

I'll bet this "Liberal Reader" is an ACORN brownshirt paid $20/hr by Abu Hussein from Kenya, our Community Organizer-in-Chief.
As for names: Hitler's party was "Socialist Workers Party" (in German: Duetsche Nazional-Sozialistische Arbeiter Partei). Mussolini's party was Italiam Socialist Party (Fascist) - to distinguish it from his father's party Il Duce added that "Fascist').
So now let us review these names of our econazis or communazis:
1) From 1917 to 1939 when Hitler made a pact with Stalin they called themselves proudly communists;
2) From 1939 to 1956 they switched their name to socialists - you know, to divorce themselves from Stalin's mass murders;
3) From 1956 to 1989 they called themseves liberals - well, how would you like to be associated with the terror and utter poverty of socialism? And now
4) Since the name "liberal" started to stink they switched once more to "progressive".
Evidently our POS "Liberal Reader" is somewhat behind the times - but he will catch up soon. In the meantime I can guess 100% what he thinks, feels, writes - you see, for this former refugee from a communist hell he is rather an easy book to read.
In the meantime I will just call him simply a communazi.

Margie| 12.27.09 @ 3:09PM

Bravo, Mr. Jeric.

Attempted Act? Wow, I guess it must be true, the lib's can't understand the meaning of an act verses an attempted act. There was no attempted act, there was an act to terrorize the occupants of this flight. Damn, I'm getting confused as to which side the lib's are reallly on, it sure as hell is not the side of the truth anyway.

martin j smith| 12.27.09 @ 7:55AM

Marc Jeric:
You hit the nail on Liberal Reader. But he does have a use. You can first hand what the left lines of attack are, how the media spins news and why it is not worth trying to engage with LR ( or who ever s/he or they are ) Consider LR as a challenge, but don't get too frustrated. Consider LR an education--so that when you debate real people you have good idea what they will say and consider ways to respond or when to say--you are waisting my time. But that is it.

Daisy| 12.27.09 @ 9:02PM

Liberal Reader is not a challenge, he's merely child's play.

martin j smith| 12.27.09 @ 8:06AM

After reading more abot the Nigerian terrorist and the Dutch guy that subdued him I have these tentative comments ( meaning I may more to say ).
1) We are citizen soldiers with responsiblity to report if not actively help to subdue a potential terrorist.
2)Read between the MSM report lines as to their true message- Get beyond their efforts to cover up acts of terror see it as pure politics.
3)Hold Obama and his administration totally responsible for failures to prevent even attempts
for his policies encourage them. As I said previously
4) If gd forbid there were a significant attack on US soil, Obama will be burnt toast politically. His approval rating now are in the mid 40,s--a significant attack would not only be devestating to the families of victims but to our economy and our way of life even under Obama. Most of all Obama's appeasement policies would be seen as a failure by the vast majority of Americans.
5) There are people out there who do know what is going on terrorism wise and are ready to act. So,while i have absolutely zero confidence in Obama and his foreign policy advisors, I do have faith and hope in humanity in general when the situation calls for action

Occam's Tool| 12.27.09 @ 11:21PM

So true, Martin.

In addition, we should note that we are under potential attack everyday from airliners from countries that are lackadaisacal on the GWOT.

New Zealand, for example, is quite pro-Arab (check out who sponsored their last America's Cup yacht team), and, as a former permanent resident, I can tell you that their security checks on planes leaving the country are worthless. Non stops every day from Auckland to SF and Honolulu.

Richard Baker| 12.27.09 @ 1:20PM

Let's take some of the hundreds of billions of dollars in the Kenyan slush fund and start a new airline. Let's call it "Jihad Airways" with a motto of "We wing you to Heaven." All Moslems in the US will have to fly on it and with an Islamic crew. That way when the plane explodes everyone will be happy! Such a simple solution. Oh yeah, everyone gets a complimentary Koran upon entering the aircraft.

SoCon| 12.27.09 @ 6:49PM

Can we put Liberal Reader on it?

The best we American people can do currently is to try to keep this damn disguised Global Empire from mucking you up.

L. Ross| 12.28.09 @ 11:30AM

The sad thing is, people think that everyone, all over the world, shares our values and beliefs. That simply isn't true, and it is most especially not true for muslims. Only in the muslim world do they dress their children up like suicide bombers for fun.
http://images.google.com/images?q=child suicide bomber&rls=com.microsoft:*&oe=UTF-8&startIndex;=&startPage=1&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi

This is quite simply not the way civilized people act. The fools who suggest that we can best advance muslim/western relations by educating them in engineering would probably be happy selliing them crop dusters, and training them how to fly without landing. Personally, I feel we need to put a hurting on them that they will respect and remember. Something like Vlad the Impaler did at the battle of 1462 at Tirgoviste. Or, we can follow BHOs lead, and enjoy the fruits of multiculturalism.
