According to Rasmussen Reports:

Republican candidates now have an eight-point lead over Democrats, their biggest lead of the year, in the latest edition of the Generic Congressional Ballot.

The new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 44% would vote for their district's Republican congressional candidate while 36% would opt for his or her Democratic opponent. Support for GOP candidates held steady over the past week, but support for Democrats slipped by a point.

Perhaps this helps to explain why Parker Griffith, a freshman congressman from northern Alabama, is expected to announce today that he is switching parties. Elected as a Democrat, he is switching to the GOP because of unhappiness with national Democratic policies. Several other Democratic congressmen in swing districts have announced that they will not seek reelection next year.

A lot can happen in a year.  But 2010 might not be a good year to run as a Democrat.

And just why is it that you - Doug Bandow - are highlighting this news? Shouldn't you be bashing Republicans like you did mercilessly in 2006/07/08 along with your other Leftist Libertarian buddies like Lew Rockwell, Justin Raimondo, Anthony Gregory, Nic Gillespie & Crew?

Bandow, you have blood on your hands. By siding with the America-hating Leftists over McCain/Palin in 2008, you and your fellow Paleo non-intervenionists, helped to bring about the downfall of the GOP, all over your enormously stupid opposition to Bush and the War in Iraq.

I hope your satisfied. We now have the biggest Socialist monstrosity this country has ever seen with passage of ObamaCare.

Perhaps if you and your co-horts hadn't joined in the bash Bush, bash McCain/Palin chorus along with your temporary Leftist allies, we wouldn't be in this mess today.

Folks, for those of you unfamiliar with who Doug Bandow is, I urge you to check out his background, and the archives in his self-named blog. He's a political hopping opportunist. In 2005/06/07/08 he viciously attacked Republicans. Now, he's trying to pretend like his one of us. He's not. Don't give him any credibility by reading, quoting from, or linking to his writings. He deserves nothing but utter disdain from all conservatives and true libertarians on the right.

Thanks Eric for the info on Bandow. Was not aware of who he is, was, or portends to be! We need to 'out' anyone who hides behind the Rep/Indpt mask. Too much of it has gone on in the past! Merry Christmas and have a great New Year!

Oldefarte| 12.24.09 @ 11:32AM

Here's hoping that 2010 is a good year for [conservative] Republicans and/or Democrats that will pledge to begin to dismantle the EXPENSE side of the federal government's ledger!!!!!!

Travlyr| 12.24.09 @ 8:08PM

Eric Dondero is no libertarian. Eric Dondero is a warmonger.

"If you are Anti-War, you are by definition Anti-American, like it or not." - Eric Dondero

Eric Dondero| 12.25.09 @ 10:30AM

I guess I should've offered more explanation with that quote.

Not only are you Anti-American, if you oppose the War against Islamo-Fascism, but quite cowardly and a downright Girlie-man to boot. No accident that 99.9% of all those who oppose the Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, never served a day of their lives in the US Military.

They're just trying to bash us Military guys as well, and discredit us for our service.

Agreed!

pissed off| 12.24.09 @ 9:31PM

Hey Spectator, wtf do your comments get into google news?

Stefan| 12.25.09 @ 2:53AM

Tavlyr: spot on. Ad of course Eric actually is representative of an extreme LEFT wing Wilsonian doctrine of nation-building coupled with a fascistic-militaristic approach and constitute the very reason why the GOP lost in 2006 and 2008 and Bush himself had a huge role in destroying 1/2 of the Bill of Rights (Patiot Act) and Dondero is also a huge conspriracy theorist, believing there were WMD in Iraq that would "justify" its invasion. Pakistan, India, israel etc actually do have WMD (nuclear bombs) aready...would this not qualify as WMD?

martin j smith| 12.25.09 @ 8:21AM

I see an article reporting a Rasmussen pole. Right. ?
So what gives. Agree with the poll or not ?
Question is: would Repunblicans know what to do with their power, if hey ever got it ?

Bob| 12.26.09 @ 9:52AM

The right leaning Rasmussen poll (because they are contracted primarily by Republican operatives) is a bit misleading. Gallup also showed a reversal in November, but this was short lived as the December numbers showed Democrats just as strong as in 2009. As I've said on many occasions, people vote their pocketbooks. If the jobs number starts to reverse at the beginning of 2010, then Dems will have the significant advantage. If jobs numbers hold study or decline, it will be a close race. In either case, you Tea Party extremists are just exhibiting wishful thinking. Until you re-embrace we "moderates" (fiscal conservatives/social libertarians), the party will not regain power.

Margie| 12.26.09 @ 4:12PM

Bob,
Firstly, Tea Party "extremists" as you like to call them, are people from all walks of life who are fed up with the Left. the party of the Left is clearly the Democrat party.
Secondly, I'm not sure if you really are unawrae or are just "pretending" not to know, but the Republican party is full of fiscal conservative/social Liberals (which social libertarians really are).
What we want to happen is for all of these other wanderers to join with us in taking back our Party which is at present run by RINOs. The Republican party is conservative in its platform and best represents what the majority of Americans really want.
Limited government, less taxation, free market enterprise, and a STRONG Military Defense.

ds80| 12.26.09 @ 5:07PM

Hmmm. I always suspected it was so, but "Bob" confirms it: "moderate" is just an easier way to spell "milquetoast".

Eric Dondero| 12.27.09 @ 8:35AM

"Moderate" is not defined by fiscal conservative/social libertarian. That definition is Libertarian Republican. It's not Moderate to call for the abolition of the IRS, and elimination of virtually all Fed Depts. Not is it Moderate to call for the Repeal of Seat Belt laws, Legalization of Gambling and Prostitution, and ending the Drug War.

Moderates don't support any of these LIBERTARIAN positions. Stop trying to usurp our Libertarian views.
