On the main site, RiShawn Biddle has a piece
looking at Evan Bayh's unexpected challenges in 2010. Today, John
Hostettler, the best-known Republican to have declared for the
Senate seat, argued that Bayh's personal interests play a bigger
role than principle in motivating his health care vote. "A vote
for President Obama's most important legislative initiative will
create a clear conflict of interest at home, literally, for
Indiana's junior senator," Hostettler said. "The fact is that his
wife, Susan, serves on the Board of Directors of one of America's
largest health insurance companies, and she has been paid more
than $1 million since first being named to that Board shortly
after Senator Bayh's reelection in 2004."
Hostettler continued with some backhanded praise for his
Democratic rival. "I do not support the Senate bill or any other
government takeover of the best health care system in the world,"
he said. "Though I oppose the Senate bill for other reasons, I am
nonetheless encouraged that Senator Bayh will listen, if not to
his constituents, to his family's economic interests."
John Hostettler will give the voters a true choice in 2010. There
is a world of difference (both politically and ethically) between
the Jeffersonian John Hostettler and the neo-scocialist Evan
Bayh. Fundamentally Hostettler holds to the views of limited
federal government akin to our founding fathers and would work to
scale back the federal government’s expansion into our lives,
businesses, and culture. He has campaigned to scale back the size
and scope of the Federal government to where it was in the 70’s
to 80’s. Bayh on the other hand has established himself as a
neo-socialist, supporting the expanded role of government both
domestically and abroad. His habit of voting with the left
leaning democrats on an expanded and more costly federal
goverment has shattered his ability to call himself a
conservitive or moderate democrat. He has no ground to stand on
to call himself a fiscal conservitive. He is not a conservative
who wishes to conserve the constitution or reduce the
confiscation of taxpayer’s money needed to support the ever
expanding and invasive Federal Government. Support
