Well, you know. A.C. Kleinheider has a
column about a Ron Paul Republican's ouster from a local GOP
leadership position. I've put in my
two
cents on Matt Collins' refusal to shake hands with Zach Wamp
before. I don't have any position on how the Davidson County
Republicans should have dealt with him. But I do agree with
Kleinheider that this is a poor way to mainstream
constitutionalist ideas (and when somebody as conventional as
Howard Fineman is
talking about you, your ideas are starting to permeate the
mainstream). I understand Collins and company think they are
going to be able to ostracize Republicans who support
unconstitutional legislation. It looks to me that the main result
has been self-marginalization, which is ultimately
self-defeating.
I think Matt Collins is right here. Conservatives should stop
showing respect to elected officials that break their oath to the
Constitution. If liberal Republicans get upset and vote you out
of your party position they are just tipping their hand. I think
in the future I would rather be the one that can say I stood
against those that voted for big government as opposed to being
one that will have to say I defended those that support big
government,
Would it not have been better still to say that you were one who
opposed big government effectively?

I think we have been trying to oppose big government the way you
propose and it hasn't worked. The Republican party establishment
has had no principles. They are happy as long as a Republican
wins. Even if it that Republican that wins is no different than
90% of the Democrats.

Ron Paul is a nut case. Another eccentric in the mold of Ross
Perot.
