Former Congressman John Hostettler announced
yesterday that he will seek the Republican nomination to
challenge Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.). A staunch conservative from
the class of '94 who held a tough district for six terms,
Hostettler will not be the party establishment's favorite. He
lost his seat by a lopsided margin in 2006 and, as the linked
Politico piece notes, was often a thorn in the party
leadership's side. But Hostettler is the biggest name in the race
and his vote against the Iraq war could allow him to tap into the
Ron Paul fundraising network.
