Now They Tell Us

Barack Obama is suddenly very concerned about the deficit. And George W. Bush is warning against massive government interventions into the marketplace. Too bad they didn't have these feelings when they were running up huge deficits and concocting colossal bailouts.

I wonder if we will soon be hearing phrases like "my tax plan will reduce or fail to increase the deficit."

Oh, please. What do you mean, waking up? This was the plan all along. Spend like crazy, until the general public gets concerned about deficits. Then don the deficit hawk apparel. And just before the 2010 election year, when those evil conservatives are going to try to bankrupt the country by extending Bush's "tax cuts for the rich." Pay-go will soon be a good idea for them, as tax cuts will be scored as a 100% addition to the deficit. Blah, blah, blah, queue the victims of insidious tax cutters, etc.
