The outrages of Ft. Hood and Orlando have become occasions once
more for journalistic misuse of the language.
If you were shot but not killed, you were "wounded." The
policewoman credited with stopping Ft. Hood's murderous Major is
a "heroine."
Count, if you like, the number of times "injured" is referred to
the many who were actually wounded, but don't bother to count the
times the little lady shows up as a "hero."
