Credit Where It's Due

Vince Young did much better in his return game as the Titans' starting quarterback than I -- and maybe even Jeff Fisher -- anticipated.

What did he throw for, 125 yds? Chris Johnson went for over 200 yds - that is why they won. And the Jaguars are terrible but would have been right in the game if MJD hadn't come up lame.

Pete,
I didn't see the game, but it stands to reason that if VYoung hadn't been doing something right, the Jags would have just put a ton of guys in the box and focused on stopping Johnson.

The fact that they didn't feel they could do that probably has to be understood as an endorsement, however qualified of VYoung's passing.

I did watch small sections of the game, and never saw Young complete a pass. The Jags tried to stop CJ but couldn't...and it wasn't because they feared Young as a passer. 125yds does not engender fear.

Go Vince!| 11.2.09 @ 4:44PM

Lots of bitter Trojans on here makin comments.

Or is that you Jeffy? or is you bitter aggy?

Thank goodness Bud finally put his foot down, maybe with the work that Fisher and Collins did in the first 6 games the Titans will be able to draft high enough to get some good wide recievers to throw to, Jordan Shipley comes to mind.

Vince Young may or may not be the answer in the long run, but at this point, there's no reason not to play him.

NOBODY thought Kerry Collins was a great quarterback. The assumption was that the Titans' defense and running game were so strong, the team would make the playoffs with just a competent veteran quarterback who'd do little but "manage the game," hand off the ball, and avoid crucial mistakes.

It turned out that Kerry Collins was not the man for the job, and the Titans quickly found themselves out of playoff contention. At this point, there's nothing the team can do but look to next year. And they HAVE to find out once and for all whether Vince Young can do the job. If he can, great! If he can't, the Titans will need to get a new quarterback next year.

Vince is a phenomenally gifted athlete. He hasn't yet shown that he can be a great pro quarterback. Once opposing defenses start showing him different packages, we'll quickly found out whether he's been studying film and mastering the playbook the past few months, or just sulking.

Of course, Bud Adams has a love affair with quarterbacks from the Lone Star State (he gave Bucky Richardson and Cody Carlson a try, remember?). Maybe he'll insist on drafting Colt McCoy!

"And they HAVE to find out once and for all whether Vince Young can do the job"

I'd humbly submit that it is already clear that he can't, and in the interim, that Kerry "Vodka" Collins gives them the best chance to win games. Then again, being that it is a business, the owner can do as he sees fit; his customers, however, may not agree and start staying at home.
