The AARP, which allied with the American Medical Association to push for the $247 billion bill to prevent scheduled cuts to doctor's payments, also expressed disappointment at today's failed cloture vote:
“On behalf of our 40 million members, AARP is deeply disappointed that legislation to preserve seniors’ access to their doctors was blocked in the U.S. Senate today, proving once again Washington lawmakers would rather play political games than protect the needs of seniors.
“The Senate’s failure to fix the flawed doctor payment system means that payment rates for doctors in Medicare could be cut by 21.5 percent in just a few months. Short-term patches to preserve physician pay make the access problem worse by undermining doctors’ confidence in the Medicare program.
“AARP supported this bill because it would have given Medicare patients the certainty they deserve in knowing that access to their doctors would be preserved. Despite today’s setback, AARP will keep fighting for a legislative solution that will protect seniors’ access to their doctors and ensure they can get the care they need to stay healthy.”

A A R P has always loved shell game, especially as long as they keep seniors money coming into their coffers, they are as phoney as the bamma bunch

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Specialists are already lining up to "opt out" of Medicare this year. Offices cannot continue to provide care for Medicare patients when they are paid less than there costs. Going from 10 cents on the dollar charged to 8 cents on the dollar charged will be the impetus for physicians to finally take a stand a say - no more!

Tom, this is exactly the problem. The government has been cheating the doctors and seniors for years by trying to control their relationship regarding treatment. And THIS is what they want to provide by government mandate.
I don't know about you, but I trust my doctors. In fact, I can vow that a few of them have ensured my presence to rally for justice. I fought for their charges to be paid when they fought for my life, and I will continue to fight as long as I breathe for doctors to make medical choices with their patients and be paid fairly for those services.
The government has no place in the doctor-patient relationship, in our private medical files, or with politically-charged, bureaucratic hijacking of health care of Americans which would benefit the crooks and their lobbying groups in Washington.

Well, well, well, AARP looks like you're getting smacked in your corrupt chops. Obama will turn on you just like Prince Harry is blaming the corrupted sell outs over at the debased AMA (which now onl represents 15% of Dr's and is shrinking dramatically for it's 2 betrayals, the 1st when it betrayed the few Dr's it claimed to represent, and now it showed how impotent it was when it failed even in delivering votes to Harry Reid for the bribes it and the Democratic leadership had promised each other in the latest vote sham)
What is going to be delicious is when all of this burns down like it did under Clinton is that AARP is going to lose a LOTTTTT of money. I can't wait to watch that show...
Payback is a bitch ain't it. :-)
