Former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist has made a lot of
news lately. Apparently the White House has been trying to round
up well-known Republicans to come out in favor of ObamaCare and
Mr. Frist was one of the first to answer the
call. He recently wrote a point/counterpoint
in U.S. News with Dick Armey about how wonderful
it is to require working people to buy health insurance, even
before they feed their children. Since then he has been all over
the place.
First he was interviewed by Karen Tumulty in Time Magazine, saying if he
were still in the Senate, “I would end up voting for it.
As leader, I would take heat for it. That’s what leadership is
all about.” He went on to say he especially
liked the mandate. I mean, telling other people what to do –
that’s what leadership is all about, eh, Billy?
Naturally, the “Democrats (were) Thrilled by (Former) Majority
Leader’s Comment,” according to the New York Times. The
article says they, “spent the day e-mailing links to the Time
interview with Mr. Frist, a heart surgeon who has published a new
book about health care and who was Mr. McConnell’s predecessor as
Senate Republican leader.” Yes, all of the sudden they are
willing to overlook his relationship to Hospital Corporation of
America, which is run by his family.
But then he started backtracking.
U.S. News reported, “Voters will be angry and mount a
backlash against Democrats in upcoming elections
unless the five different healthcare reform bills working through
Congress are redrawn to prevent higher taxes and insurance premiums, according to
former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist.” It
went on to say that, “he would not vote for any of the five bills
without major changes.”
I guess that’s what leadership is all about, too. Say
one thing in the morning and the opposite in
the afternoon. No wonder the Congressional Republicans are held
in such low esteem.

Well, leadership certainly isn't about snide remarks like yours. If you had bothered to read the Time magazine you would have known that Dr. Frist has been very consistent in what he is saying. He said he favors transformational health care reform, but none of the bills being offered so far accomplish this. He is the voice everyone should be listening to instead of the garbage that you are trying to spew. btw, Dr. Frist isn't in Congress and hasn't been for three years. Isn't it a stretch to blame him for their low ratings?
BillF| 10.10.09 @ 9:28AM
That's why he's a "former" senator and "former" majority leader, and it shows precisely why we should vote all of the incumbents out in 2010; he's no different than the rest of them that are still there "represeenting" us.

Time magazine is in my bathroom but not for reading.
Oldefarte| 10.10.09 @ 11:16AM
THAT'S """""WHY""""" Frist is no longer majority leader of the Senate and/or a viable Republican candidate for President!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oldefarte| 10.10.09 @ 11:19AM
PS----any other Republicans [and also moderate/blue-dog Democrats] expressing the same [in bed with THE GREAT ONE'S policies] will come to a similar fate as Frist in 2010 and/or 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!
martin j smith| 10.10.09 @ 12:28PM
Mean what you say and say what you mean. Anumber of Republicans including Bob Dole have been saying stuff that MSM uses to "prove" there is Republic "bi-partisan" support. Then when you ask : " Did you really mean this or that the answer is" No of course not ". So why become fodder for the MSM ?
Larry C. Roberts, MD, MA| 10.10.09 @ 12:56PM
Dr. Frist probably took the new, improved Hippocratic Oath in which the standard for ethical behavior has been lowered to prohibiting only those acts which are deemed illegal. He, like every dictator in the last century, must believe that the state is the font from which all our blessings and rights flow. Therefore, we are significant only in so far as we are useful to the state, and forcing us all into a government run health care system will ensure our continued compliance with their fascist agenda. I doubt that Dr. Crist, who is probably a member in good standing of the left-wing AMA, remembers what it's like to actually practice private medicine, and I bet he would be a good candidate for Obama's Surgeon General.
Richard Baker| 10.10.09 @ 1:24PM
Dr. Roberts:
Frist has become a political whore instead of a cardiologist. You are correct that he may be angling to be a future Surgeon General. Sounds as if he's self-medicating.

The purpose of “Bipartisanship” for the Democrats is to leave no political place for anyone to go but the Democrat Party position. After all if there is very little difference between the Republican and Democrat Party positions then why stay with the loser Republicans. The democrats have more political goodies to hand out. Frist is the latest sellout to join Dole and McCain.
Frist is just the latest example of why the conservatives need to create a conservative third party. The counter-argument is if the conservatives leave the Republicans the next election will be won by the Democrats. With the Republicans it is always the “next election”. The proof is Republican “Bipartisanship” has delivered the House, Senate, and the Presidential office with the entire Executive Branch to the Democrats. How much worse can the Republican leadership go. The Republicans had it all and lost it all with “Bipartisanship”. The conservatives need to cut the Republican Leadership loose as the leadership will always betray the conservatives.
Margie| 10.11.09 @ 4:42PM
What is the history of third parties? Remember Ross Perot? If it could work it would be wonderful. Why can't we back conservatives to run in the Repub Party where we have a chance?
kingsmill| 10.10.09 @ 5:39PM
Bill Frist, was and always will be weak. He will make the short list for the JFK Library "Profile in Courage" award.

I really have to wonder about those who are willing to allow themselves to be used by the Democrats and the MSM against those of us who fear with good reason government run health care systems.
Among my theories are
1) a naive belief that people are really "sincere" and "good" and are not trying to screw the voters. The problem here is that folks will be immunde from that system and thus what do they care ?
2)curruption --a) payoffs--simple and direct of one kind or another or b)threats of exposure of one kind or another--blackmail
3) "lets all get along-"-conflict bad friendship good
There are I am sure other theories but thses are ones that come my mind. One friend of mine says"why atrribute a motive of malice when simple imcompetence is the reason". Perhaps--but in the age of Poilitics the"Chicago Way" I don't know about that.

Margie.........THANK YOU!
You just keep hangin' in there with the truth.
I do believe John McCain is an honorable man...just stupid....or perhaps broken by his life.
He thinks he can do business with these country destroyers. He is wrong.
Lib reader is either a paid mole...or completely stupid and childish.
Toddard is stupider (smile).
Martin,
thank you for a voice of reason, though I am very afraid reason will be left behind soon in our country.
The stupids combined with the oath-breaker traitors look as if they are bringing us to the precipice of civil war.
We productive members of our society must hope we "can throw the bums out" in 2010 and cripple the oath-breakers through 2012, and then repeal all the crap they are using to destroy us.
I also fear what happens if we cannot throw the bums out in 2010. I fear it will be war to the knife, Martin, and the stupids will be asking themselves what happened.
The problem is that the traitors know that as well, and we must anticipate all of the things they can do to stay in power. Please, start thinking ahead a year or two. TEAM AMERICA is all about thinking ahead and trying to win this war with votes, (properly counted). We are also trying to identify genuine free-market conservatives to elect to congress if elections are allowed in 2010.
Margie, God bless!
Martin, Thank you .
