That is definitely the biggest difference between 1993 and now: When George Bush went down to defeat in 1992, the Republicans who would vie to fill the leadership void were already known quantities. Many of them had been climbing the ladder for more than a decade and, like Gingrich, had an identity independent of the old leadership. While there are some names I can think of trying to fill the GOP's void now, it isn't comparable to the early Clinton years.

The idea man the conservatives need to listen to is a certain Congressman from Texas, but they are too busy fretting about Iran to understand that.

I thought Ron Paul ran off with Bruno. Is he still a Congressman?

Newt started to lose steam pretty fast. It wasn't long before 'withering on the vine' was hung around his neck. Glib will do you in.

Rembering why you believe what you believe is what usually leads to ideas. And I think that being willing to lose in order to gain is important too. That takes loving the principles you've come to espouse. Something close to pure love and pure hate casting out fear.
