Mary Travers of the folk trio Peter, Paul, and Mary has
died. Their politics were cartoonishly liberal but some of
their hit songs are American classics.
My mother-in-law was asked to join the group before Travers; she
went to college with one of the guys. She turned the offer down.
She had her heart set on graduating and marrying her childhood
sweetheart. I'm grateful she did.
So Peter, Paul and Mary was almost Peter, Paul and Nancy. I might
be partial, but Mom is the better singer. And Mom's sister - I
call her Aunt Lou - is better then her.
